A short excerpt from a YouTube video by James Laughlin ("The REAL PANDEMIC is here and it's a KILLER...") discussing loneliness within corporate environments. The speaker emphasizes that loneliness is often overlooked despite team structures (open plans, teams), and argues leaders must 'tune in' energetically and lead with purposeful connection so team members feel safe to be authentic and not isolated.
I think in the corporate environment, loneliness can be so ignored because you think, I've got team, open plan, etc. But it is really about, let's go deeper, let's understand, let's tune in energetically to your team and understand, does anyone feel isolated? Does anyone feel on their own in certain situations? And really sort of, when you tune in on that conscious, connected level, which for me is leading, it's leading on purpose, isn't it? It's bringing that purposeful connection in to your leadership. That's when you start to notice things in your team that you wouldn't have noticed. And that's when you can have team members who will come out of their shell or feel like they can be authentically them. Because a big part of disconnection can be rooted in when you have a team member who doesn't feel like they can show up exactly as themselves.
