Short spoken segment (transcript) describing a police training program for frontline officers focused on crisis and tactical response. The speaker—a former minister of police—emphasizes teaching self-awareness skills so officers can 'stop and go' during volatile incidents, assess stress and likely reactions, and avoid spur-of-the-moment mistakes that worsen outcomes.

When I was the minister of police as we launched a new training program for frontline police in terms of their crisis response, you know, their tactical response. How do police keep themselves safe when they're dealing with really volatile situations? And one of the things that they get taught there are some self awareness skills. So when something big is happening one of the first things they need to do is sort of stop and go, okay, how am I responding to this situation? Where's my head at right now? Am I feeling stressed? Am I feeling under pressure? Am I likely to make a spur of the moment decision that's wrong? Am I? You know, and really understanding their own emot as they head into a really difficult situation is a huge part of determining what the outcome of that situation is going to be. Because if you go into something on edge when it's already going to be a really difficult situation, you're more likely to make a mistake.
