Short motivational YouTube monologue by James Laughlin arguing that generalists tend to remain "middle of the pack," while high performers become outstanding by specializing deeply in one area. He urges viewers to identify what they are passionate about, what they will go deep on, what to let go of (distractions like phone scrolling), and to reflect/comment below.
Are you sick of being middle of the pack? I recently had a client talk to me about, hey, you know, all of my life, I've been kind of middle of the pack. Well, you know what I really firmly believe? When you're a generalist and you're kind of good at lots of things, you'll always be middle of the pack. Those people who are true high performers, people who perform above the standard norms consistently over the long term, they're people who go deep. They go an inch wide and a mile deep on one thing, and they become the world's best at that. So what is it that you're passionate about? What is it that you're willing to go deep on? And what is it that you're willing to let go of? What are those shiny objects that keep distracting you? Maybe it's your phone. Stop scrolling. What is it that you're really willing to go deep on? Reflect on that. Love to hear what it is. Comment below.
