A YouTube interview in which Abbas Nazari recounts growing up in Afghanistan under Taliban rule and describes a harrowing escape from the country. The speaker emphasizes extreme violence, massacres, widespread physical and sexual abuse, and the traumatic conditions during the flight (crowds, human waste), framing the story as one of survival and resilience.
I was born and raised in Afghanistan. Brutal, brutal violence. There have been actual massacres that happened. All of my childhood years were spent under the rule of the Taliban. It was time for us to flee. It's not a journey I'd wish on anybody. We were in a blender of bodies and luggage and human waste. It was the most horrific experience I can ever imagine. People were being physically and sexually abused, rebuilt from scratch. I never really understood the gravity of the situation. Woe is me. I'm a victim of my circumstance. Or you can say, incredible, we made it. You have to beat that little voice in your head that says, no, no, Now Crosschurch is and forever will be home.
