A short conversational segment from a YouTube video in which James Laughlin asks how resilience is learned. The other speaker argues resilience is widely present but often untapped, that each person has a unique pathway to developing resilience aligned with their values and aspirations, and that many people discover greater resilience when placed in difficult situations.

How do we learn resilience? Is it something that people are born with, or is it something that all of us can actually develop more of?
I'm convinced that every single one of us has an abundance of this good stuff somewhere. What troubles me is we appear to look for it in all the wrong places. So I think the logic that we have to try to align ourselves to is the fact that every single one of us has a different and unique pathway to getting the kind of resilience we need to thrive authentically according to our own values, references, our own aspirations. And so the short of it is every one of us has resilience. Oftentimes it's untapped. But what I'm constantly empowered by or feel a sense of excitement around is the fact that so many people who don't or would not have fancied themselves resilience, resilient, find themselves in really tricky predicaments and are surprised by just how much better they could be.
