In this video Dr. Jane Yoo, a board‑certified dermatologist and Mohs surgeon, reviews ISDIN’s European‑formulated Photoprotector line, which leverages UV filters approved in the EU but not in the United States. She walks through four main products—a lightweight lotion spray SPF 50, a facial mist SPF 50, a body lotion SPF 50, and a scalp/hair spray SPF 50—detailing each product’s filter blend (including photostable filters such as Tinosorb S, Uvinul T150, Uvinul A Plus, Icotrizinol, and Neo Heliopan AP), antioxidant and moisturizing actives (Ginger Cell Protect, 5H Complex, Vitamin E), and format‑specific benefits (spray‑on convenience, mist that doesn’t need rubbing, targeted nozzle, scalp protection). She also highlights the Fusion Water Magic Strap, an accessory that keeps the sunscreen handy for frequent reapplication. Throughout, Dr. Yoo emphasizes that the broader EU filter palette provides more stable, broader‑spectrum protection than U.S. equivalents and recommends travelers to Europe stock these products for superior photoprotection.

Hi everyone, I'm Dr. Jane Yoo, board-certified dermatologist and Mohs surgeon. Today I want to talk about a collection of sunscreens from ISDIN, the Spanish brand that has been at the forefront of photoprotection research since 1975. Today I want to highlight their European-formulated Photoprotector range. The European Union approves a broader range of UV filters than the United States currently does, which means that these Spanish-formulated products can incorporate more advanced, more photostable filter technology than anything you would find in United States versions. So if you're ever traveling to Spain or anywhere else in Europe, ISDIN sunscreens can be worth stocking up on. The first is the Lotion Spray SPF 50, a lightweight body sunscreen in a spray format. The filter combination uses Avobenzone for UVA coverage and Octisalate for UVB, both available in the US, but it also includes two filters that are not currently approved here, including Uvinul T150, which adds additional UVB protection, and Tinosorb S, a broad spectrum filter covering both UVA and UVB that is particularly notable for its photostability. That means that it holds up under sun exposure rather than degrading over time, which helps maintain consistent protection throughout the day. The standout skincare ingredient is Ginger Cell Protect, a natural ginger extract with a high concentration of a compound called 6-shogaol, which is known for its antioxidant properties. The idea is that UV filters address the radiation itself, but sun exposure also generates oxidative stress at the cellular level, and the Ginger Cell Protect is there to address that layer of damage. The second product is a facial mist SPF 50, and from a filter standpoint, it contains 7 UV filters in total, which reflects what is possible in a European formulation that simply would not be achievable under current US regulations. For UVA, it has Avobenzone, Uvinul A Plus, and Neo Heliopan AP. For UVB, it has Octisalate. And for broad spectrum UVA and UVB coverage, it has, uh, Ecotrizanol, Mexoryl XL, and Tinosorb S. That is layered photostable protection across the full UV spectrum. On the skincare side, the formula contains the 5H Complex, a proprietary blend of humectant ingredients designed to attract, transport, retain, and balance moisture within the skin, providing deep hydration. Vitamin E is also included as an antioxidant to help neutralize free radical damage. The format itself is also worth highlighting. It applies as an invisible ultrafine mist that you do not need to rub in. Which makes reapplication throughout the day much more realistic for people who wear makeup, which is a real practical advantage. The third is the Body Lotion SPF 50, a body sunscreen in lotion form with a nozzle specifically designed for targeted localized application. The filter lineup is similarly strong with Avobenzone and Uvinul A Plus for UVA coverage, Octisalate and Sulazol and Uvinul T150 for UVB, and Tinosorb S for broad spectrum protection across both. Again, several of these are not available in US formulas. The formula includes Ginger Cell Protect for antioxidant defense against oxidative damage and vitamin E for additional antioxidant support. The fourth product is one that gets overlooked in most sunscreen routines, and that is a scalp and hairspray SPF 50. The scalp and hair fiber are directly exposed to UV radiation every day, with particular vulnerability in areas of lower hair density like the part line or the hairline. This spray was specifically formulated to address that. The UV filter combination is comprehensive with Avobenzone and Uvinul A+ for UVA, Octisalate and Soolazol and Uvinul T150 for UVB, and both Icotrizinol and Tinosorb S for broad spectrum UVA and UVB coverage. I also picked up the Fusion Water Magic Strap. It is a small accessory designed to hold any sunscreen from ISDIN's Fusion Water Magic line and keep it with you throughout the day. It even comes with a lanyard so you can wear it around your neck, especially as you go to the US Open this summer. It sounds simple, but honestly, one of the biggest barriers to reapplication is just not having the product on you, and this removes the barrier. So if you have a trip to Spain or anywhere in Europe coming up, I would strongly encourage you to seek these out. The filter technology available in these formulations is a meaningful step up from what is currently accessible in the United States, and that is a real difference from a photoprotection standpoint.
