In this video Dr. Jane Yoo, a board‑certified dermatologist and Mohs surgeon, reviews two ISDIN sunscreens created in partnership with Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz: Fusion Water Magic SPF 50 PA++++ (Paris 25 Edition) and Fusion Gel Sport SPF 50. She opens with a personal anecdote from the US Open, noting the collectible nature of the products. Dr. Yoo explains that European formulations can use UV filters not approved in the United States, giving these sunscreens a broader, more photostable filter spectrum. She details the exact filter combinations for each product, highlighting Avobenzone, Octisalate, Ensulazol, Uvinul T150, Tinosorb S, and Uvinul A Plus, and notes the photostability advantage of Tinosorb S. Beyond UV filters, she describes the antioxidant‑rich active ingredients—Mediterranean algae extract, Physalis pubescens (thermal‑aging protection), Vitamin E, and Ginger Cell Protect (6‑shogaol)—that address blue light, infrared A, and pollution‑related oxidative stress. Formulation characteristics are covered: the Water Magic is water‑based, ultralight, fast‑absorbing, oil‑controlling, and ophthalmologically tested; the Gel Sport is a sweat‑resistant gel designed for high‑intensity outdoor activity. Dr. Yoo concludes that these products showcase the benefits of European filter technology combined with thoughtful antioxidant formulation for both spectators and athletes alike.

Hi everyone, I'm Dr. Jane Yoo, board-certified dermatologist and Mohs surgeon. Today I want to talk about two sunscreens from ISDIN's collaboration with Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, and one of my favorites. Last year at the US Open, I got to see John McEnroe, Venus Williams, Coco Gauff, and Andre Agassi all take the stage together. Somehow I even managed to get my Infusion Water magic by Alcaraz Signed. Safe to say it was pretty unforgettable. That product, the Fusion Water Magic by Alcaraz SPF 50 PA++++, was developed in collaboration with Carlos Alcaraz himself and is part of ISDIN's photoprotector lineup. European formulations have access to UV filter technology that is not currently approved in the United States, and this collaboration is a great example of what that looks like in practice. What also makes this line fun is that ISDIN releases collectible editions, and there are actually quite a few versions out there. And as you know, I'm a collector, so I've been trying to track all of them down. This one is the Paris 25 Edition. The filter combination is strong and layered. For UVA coverage, it uses Avobenzone. For UVB, it uses Octisalate and Ensulazol, and then it adds two two filters that are not FDA approved in the United States: Uvinul T150 for additional UVB protection and Tinosorb S for broad-spectrum UVA and UVB coverage. Tinosorb S is particularly valued for its photostability, which means that it holds up under continuous sun exposure rather than breaking down over time. That is the filter gap that makes European formulations meaningfully different. Beyond UV filters, this is designed as a full-spectrum sunscreen, meaning that it addresses not just UVA and UVB, but also blue light, infrared A radiation, and pollution-related oxidative stress, a more comprehensive approach to environmental skin protection than SPF alone captures. The key active ingredients work on that oxidative damage layer. Mediterranean algae extract is a marine-derived ingredient rich in antioxidant compounds that help support the skin's natural cellular defenses. Physalis pubescens provides what ISDIN calls thermal aging protection, specifically targeting the free radical damage generated by heat during physical activity, which is relevant for anyone wearing this during outdoor exercise. Vitamin E rounds out the antioxidant support by helping to neutralize UV-induced free radicals. The formula is water-based and ultralight, absorbs immediately, controls oil, and is tested under ophthalmological supervision. So it does not irritate the eyes, which matters when you're sweating through a match or a workout. They also collaborated on the Fusion Gel Sport by Alcra SPF 50, and this one is specifically oriented towards sport and high activity outdoor use. And this is something that I personally use in the summertime. The filter lineup here is slightly different. For UVA, it has Avobenzone and Uvinul A Plus. For UVB, it has Octisalate and Uvinul T150. And for broad spectrum UVA and UVB coverage, it has Uvinul T150 and Uvinul A+ are not available in US-formulated sunscreens, so you are getting a level of filter coverage that you simply cannot access in a domestic product. The key ingredients overlap meaningfully with the Water Magic, but add the important one Ginger Cell Protect, which can be found in other ISDIN body products. This is a natural ginger extract with a high concentration of 6-shogaol, known for its antioxidant properties and its ability to protect against UV-induced oxidative damage at the cellular level. Physalis pubescens is again included for its thermal aging protection, and vitamin E provides additional antioxidant coverage. The gel texture is designed for the demands of active outdoor use, is sweat-resistant, fast-absorbing, and formulated to hold up against sustained physical activity in a way that heavier textures often do not. So whether you are at the US Open watching tennis legends share the stage, or on the court yourself, or just spending time outdoors, these two products represent what is possible when you have access to European filter technology paired with thoughtful antioxidant formulation.
