A racing driver at 29, working three jobs, describes the moment he nearly quit. He was stuck between Formula 3 and Formula 2 with more losses than wins, questioning whether to keep going.
Was there ever a moment where you were just like, this is over for me, there's no way I can—
Well, there was, but it had more to do, like everything, you know, I had some success. Now I'm in between, I was in between Formula 3, Formula 2, come back and racing here. I was working 3 jobs.
How old were you at the time?
I was 29.
So you had been in the racing scene for a couple years.
Yeah, and I'd been hustling money. Everybody I met. Yeah. Hey Jared, by the way. Yeah. You know, do you want to go? You know, it was that kind of— because if I didn't have the money, yeah, that's what you had to do. And I got jacked around. People promised me stuff. I mean, I could even tell you a famous name, and they got— promised me everything. I got him all tickets to Formula One race, and which was hard. I didn't even show up. And yeah, hustled, used all my creds. Yeah. To try to get these passes. Yeah. And, uh, you know You learn that people are just, you know, change your mind. It's— I'm not calling them names for doing it. Yeah, but I'd had more downs than you have ups.
