People often project their fears onto you when giving advice, so choose who you listen to carefully. Gather diverse views but filter them through your own judgment. The skill is learning to spot bullshit from experience, then combining outside input with deep internal practice.
There's different forms of recalibration. So we have coming to meeting someone else that's in a similar situation and asking them.
Yeah.
Learning from their experience. Yeah. Then there's deep internal calibration, which is meditation, a bunch of other stuff that you can pursue to find out more about yourself rather than find out more about the external world. And I think both of those are important.
I agree. But when you look externally, sometimes it's kind of dangerous because oftentimes people project their fears into the things that you're talking to them about. Their experiences maybe didn't go the way that they could have went. And I guess the point is you have to be careful who you share your thoughts with and your plans with.
Yeah, definitely. I think Naval has a famous quote: if you ask everyone for their opinion, it'll all cancel out. Yeah, but I would rather have their opinion than not and form my own judgment. Because even if I get someone else's opinion the first time and it puts me on a bad path for 5 years, which has happened before, and then I learn, oh shit, I shouldn't have listened to that person 5 years ago, Now I have the skill set to identify bullshit. I totally agree, beware of the external, but develop the skill set to filter the external.
