In this first‑person sketch, Suresh Madhavan portrays an American police officer reflecting on the constant need to spot deception during routine duties. He explains that most people the officer meets will lie, giving vivid anecdotes: a driver who claims to have stopped at a stop sign despite video evidence, and a suspect who insists the cocaine found in his pocket belongs to a friend. The monologue highlights the officer’s skepticism, the reliance on observation and video, and the broader reality that law‑enforcement officers must routinely confront falsehoods in everyday interactions.

When you're a police officer, you have to get really good at figuring out who's lying to you. Because throughout the course of your day, most of the people that you encounter are going to lie to you. Right from Jump Street. You see someone go right through a stop sign, not stop, and you're like, "Well, pull 'em over." "Hey, how you doing?" "What's going on, officer?" "Just kind of rolled through that stop sign over there, no big deal." "No, I didn't, I stopped." "Ma'am, what?" "I stopped!" One, no, I watched you. Two, it's also on the video. "Oh, it is?" "What do you think, we're just making shit up out here?" And literally I've had someone say, "That's not my cocaine in my pocket, it's my friend's pants." Lying right to your face.
