A coach confronts a client who reads self-help books instead of taking action. Books like Think and Grow Rich give you ideas, but you only learn when you actually try them. For coaches and consultants especially, real credibility comes from doing the work yourself, not just reading about it.

Yesterday, I did a coaching call with a young lady. We arrived at the conclusion that she's using self-development as an excuse not to take action. You didn't read Think and Grow Rich. You didn't read How to Win Friends and Influence People. You didn't read all the books. But you got to understand, words don't teach. Experience teaches. Okay? Words just help you to get it in there. But you learn to get it in your neurology by getting out in life and applying it. Especially if you— especially why can't I talk? Especially if you want to be a coach or a consultant. That stuff is going to set you apart from other coaches and consultants. You can't learn that shit in a book. You got to get out there and apply what you read in them books. And through trial and error, that's where you get your real sauce at. That's where you get your real formulas. That's where you really find the shit that work. Nothing is wrong with reading. You should be reading. You should be reading every day. There's no reason not to be reading. But at what point are you going to apply what you're reading in these books?
