Jay Shaw challenges whether you're actually depressed or caught in looping negative thoughts. He confronts common self-talk like "I'm stuck" and "nobody likes me," arguing that rumination keeps you in a shutdown state. The way out is reframing those stories and taking action to break the cycle.

Are you actually depressed or are you looping a depressive story and responding to it as if it's reality? Let's be clear, I'm not saying you're not depressed. How the fuck would I know? But I am asking you to consider the question because I worked with a lot of people who weren't actually depressed. They were just mentally rehearsing the narrative. They kept their nervous system in shutdown. They kept saying things like, I'm stuck. I can't. I can't do anything right. Nobody likes me. I always feel like this. And guess what? A body believed it. So I'm not dismissing your pain. However, I am challenging the story that you've been telling around. What if you're not broken? What if it's just a thought loop and it's time to climb out of it?
