Motivational coach Jay Shaw walks through his 5C process for turning thoughts into reality: Clarity, Calibration, Confidence, Competence, Consistency. He explains why the subconscious mind ignores negative commands like "don't" and responds better to positive instructions, and how aligning your attention with a desired feeling makes your mind produce the matching emotions.

What you guys got going on tonight, man? I'm Jay Shaw. Let's talk about the power of the mind. Let's talk about the fact that if you can think it, you can do it. And if you can't think it, you can't do it. Thinking is step one to doing it. Where the mind goes, the body follows. If you want to send the body into success, if you want to send the body into riches, if you want to send the body into wealth, if you want to send the body into health, you got to send the mind. The body cannot go where the mind has not yet ventured. The mind has to clear the path for the body. So it's not good news, it's not bad news, it just, it just is. If you get an image of it in your head and you focus on that image, if you get the feeling of it in your mind and you focus on that, that feeling, what happens is you'll start to move towards it on accident. You see people do this all the thing, all the time with things like anxiety. They start thinking anxious thoughts. When you send the mind to those anxious thoughts, you don't have to try to send the body. The body is always right behind the mind. The body is always right behind the mind. So what happens is when you learn how to start thinking on purpose, you can mess around and become successful on accident. How cool would it be if good ideas start just popping up in your head that help you get closer to where you want to be? How cool would it be if you started magically being in the right place at the right time, meeting the right people? It was as if circumstances were working behind your back to hand you everything you desired. Well, that's what actually happens when you take the time to desire something, because you can be, do, and have anything you desire. Your only limit is your own imagination. But upset because it's not here yet is not desire. Throwing a temper tantrum because it's not here yet is not desire. Desire is taking time to see yourself having the things that you would like to have. Desire is taking time to feel yourself feeling the things that you would like to feel. Desire is sending your mind into your desired future. Anything else is the opposite of desire. And when you start consciously asking yourself, what is it that I would rather have. This is what's holding so many people back. They are constantly thinking about what they don't want. All of their attention is going into what they don't want. They're, they're working on the problem. But if you want to be successful, what you have to do is stop working on the problem and start working on the solution. You got to realize that working on the problem is not the same thing as working on the solution. What's going on, yo? How you doing tonight? And when you start identifying the problem But instead of getting hypnotized by the problem, instead of working on the problem, you look at the problem and you ask yourself, what would I rather have? What would I rather have? And when you put your attention on what you'd rather have, oh man, good ideas start finding you, circumstances start finding you, things start lining up. The key to turning thoughts into things is to stop focusing on what you don't want and start purposely putting your attention on what you like to have. When you start to purposely focus, you will accidentally become successful. When you start focusing on purpose, when you say, okay, what do I want? What's up, yo? How you doing? What the rest of y'all doing? Interact, man. Talk to me. I'm right here. I'm Jay Shaw. I coach bosses. I'm a clinically trained hypnotist. We're going to be talking about how to turn thoughts into things. We're going to talk about how to take the desires out of your head, how to take the thoughts out of your mind and turn them into something you can taste, Touch feel here and see if you've ever worked with affirmations or vision boards or journaling or scripting or any of that stuff, and you haven't got the results that you want. Let's talk about it, man. Let's talk about why it's not working, how to get better results. Let's take it there. You want to blow up so you can retire? Let's let's get you retired, man. What's up? What's up? What's up? How y'all doing tonight, man? Where everybody tapping in from? Where is everybody tapping in from, man? If you interested in content around mindset, hit that follow button. I coach bosses, man, so I work with a lot of entrepreneurs, high performers, professional athletes. I work with people who, who want to be the best. You want to be the top of your industry, you want to outperform your peers. I teach people how to use that untapped potential of the mind and how to make it happen, man. I teach something that I call the 5C process. I'm in Texas too, man. I live in Dallas. My office right by Dallas Love Field on Limit. Yup, yup, yup. But I teach people how to use their mind, man. You got to realize your thoughts are things. Like, I want you to look around, take a good look around, and rather you like what you see or hate what you see, you created that. You created that, okay? You created that. And that's good news, because if you don't like it, I mean, you just got to create something else. But in order to create something else, you got to quit fighting with what you don't like. You got to quit trying to fix what you don't— you don't got to fix it. What do you want? Put your undivided attention on what you want. Stop trying to work on the problem. Don't work on the problem, build the solution. You gotta understand, really big problems have really big solutions. If you got a really, really, really, really, really big problem in your life, that means it's a really, really, really, really big solution out there with your name on it. But in order for you to align with the solution, you got to take your attention off of the problem. And I'm not saying don't— you don't gotta improve your life. I'm saying that the key to improving your life is not by putting your attention on the problem. The key is to look at the problem and ask yourself, what would I rather have? And once you get the answer to that question, what would I rather have, that's what you focus on. Focus on that and watch how you start accidentally getting ideas to help you get there. Watch how you start accidentally meeting people that help you get there. Watch how you accidentally find the books, accidentally find the mentors, accidentally create the circumstances to help you get there. There's no law of exclusion. There's a law of attraction. So energetically speaking, you got to understand that saying that I really, really, really, really, really hate this and I really, really, really, really, really, really want this, energetically they mean the same thing because the subconscious mind does not negate information. What does that mean? That means that the subconscious mind doesn't delete. If I say, hey, don't think about a pink elephant, but say no matter what you do, don't think about a pink elephant, the first thing you're gonna do is, is think about a pink elephant because that's how the subconscious mind works. It doesn't know how to not do something. If you say, don't be anxious, don't screw this up, don't be nervous, the subconscious mind goes, screw this up? Yeah, I know how to do that. Nervous? Yeah, I know what that is. Get out of the habit of telling yourself what not to do and start telling yourself what to do. First thing that's gonna come up, right, Chris, is that purple elephant. You gotta get in the habit of telling yourself what to do, because when you tell yourself what not to do, the nervous system and the endocrine system is on it. Like, imagine waking up in the middle of the night, everybody else in your house is asleep. You decide that you're gonna go get you a snack. So you're telling yourself, don't make noise, don't make noise. The subconscious mind is going, don't make noise. Oh, sorry, already did. But it goes noise. When the subconscious mind interprets noise, it knows what noise is. It's not interpreting the don't make noise, it's interpreting noise. Get in the habit of telling yourself what to do. The number one reason most people don't get what they want is because they simply don't know what they want. They know what they don't want. They know result they don't want. They know what they're running from, but they don't know what they're running toward. You gotta start looking at what you don't like and asking yourself the magic question: What would I rather have? When you answer that question about what would you rather have, oh man, oh man, your whole life start changing. If you start thinking. On purpose, you could be successful on accident. If you just start thinking on purpose, if you start getting intentional with how you use your imagination, if you start getting intentional with how you use your attention, man, you'll be surprised in how short period of time you could change your life. You can reconstruct your life by thinking on purpose. And I love thinking because I could think in my bed. I can lay back in this chair and think. I could think on an airplane. I can think on my balcony. I could go lay on my couch and think. Thinking is— you can do it anywhere. Thinking doesn't take physical effort, but it does take focus, and it does take discipline. It takes willpower to be able to control your mind. It takes a certain amount of practice to be able to tell your mind, we're not gonna do that, we're gonna do this. But I suggest you get in the habit of telling your thoughts what to think and telling your feelings what to feel. It can be done. It can be done, and with practice and just a sensitivity to how you feel, paying attention to how you feel, man, you'll be surprised what you could do. Thinking about the right stuff, yeah, and slowing it down. And meditation is great because sometimes no thought is easier than positive thought. People always think about— talk about positive thinking, but man, if you could just stop the negative chatter, you'll be surprised what you could do for yourself. If you could just not go negative, if you could just go neutral, you'll be surprised what you'll accomplish. You ain't got to talk yourself into it; just don't talk yourself out of it. Because if you got a strong enough desire, you ain't got to be talked into it. You just gotta not be talked out of it, and your nervous system and your endocrine system still push you towards that thing that you desire. Guys, believe me when I say this: I say it over and over and over again because it's true. You could be doing have anything you desire. Your only limit in life is your own imagination. If you could think it, you could do it. If you think it long enough and hard enough, you'll accidentally do it. If you think it long enough or hard enough, you'll find your body wants to play along. Your body wants to follow the mind. Where the mind goes, the body follows. If you can hold it in your head, you can hold it in your hands. You can't hold it in your head, you can't hold it in your hands. Your only limit in life is always your own imagination. It's always your own conception of yourself. If you convince you that it's possible, if you convince you that you could do it, nobody else ain't got to believe in you. Only you got to believe in you. Once you believe in you— because you got to understand, your nervous system and your endocrine system isn't responding to reality, it's responding to your narrative around reality. The cells in your body, rather you in fight or flight or you're, you're in your parasympathetic nervous system, is based on the story that you tell your body, man. When you get in the habit of picking the story that aligns you to the goal that you want and you start telling that story on purpose, it's off to the races. That's my biggest secret with working with high performers, getting them— what I'm doing, what I call getting them under the influence of what they want. Once you get under the influence of what you want, good ideas find you. Once you get under the influence of what you want, opportunities find you. Once you get under the influence of what you want, mentors find you, relationships find you, the resources start showing up out of nowhere. And you're still doing work, you're still working hard, but it don't feel like work, it feel like play when you're under the influence of what you want. When you're under the influence of what you don't want, it feels like work. It feels like I'm dragging myself. It feels like I'm making myself do it. When you get under the influence of what you want, oh man, it's a party. It's a journey. It's exciting. You want to do the next thing. You want to take the next step. You want— I don't got to be on live right now. I'm under the influence of what I want. I love talking about this stuff. I'm under the influence of what I want. I love talking about the mind, helping people to understand nuances of the subconscious. I got the best job in the world. I get paid to play. I get paid to do things that I would do for absolutely free. But that happened As a result of me asking myself, what do I want? What do I want? Did it happen overnight? Not at all. But changes started to happen immediately. The momentum started to pick up more immediately. You could feel it shifting in that direction immediately. Like, manifesting isn't like an on-off switch. It's a gradual change. But yeah, I could feel myself moving in that direction instantly. Left Cali last year with $300, moved to Texas. I have racks now. That's what's up, man. That's what's up. And I bet it was a few things you did. I bet you had some clarity about what you wanted. I bet you ran what I call the 5C process. I bet you got clear about what you wanted, then you got calibrated to what you wanted, and you kept calibrating until you eventually became confident in what you wanted. Then you did the competence. You read the books that you needed to read. You met with the people you needed to to meet with you, research topics that you needed to research. You did the work, then you did that consistently. That's, that's the process. Get clear about what you want, get calibrated to what you want, get confident in that calibration, competence, and consistency. If you do those 5 things, you can solve any problem. Like, one thing that I realized over my career as a hypnotist is that every problem is a thinking problem. You want to quit smoking? Think different. You want to lose weight? Think different. You want to be— you want to have better control over your money? Think different. You want to get your marriage back on track? Think different. You want to overcome PTSD? Think different. You want to stop being afraid of heights? Think different. You want to stop being afraid of spiders? Think different. Every problem is a thinking problem. When you learn how to think, magical stuff happens. When you learn how to see solutions where other people see problems, man, You do yourself and everybody around you a favor. You instantly put yourself in high demand when you learn how to see solutions where other people can only see problems. Where you learn how to see acorns— where you learn how to see oak trees where other people see acorns, you instantly change the game. You could be, do, and have anything you desire. Your only limit in life is your own imagination. If you can think it, you can do it. If you can't think it, you can't do it. The good news is you can think it. Now, when you first start thinking it, you don't got the neural pathways there to maintain that thought. Thinking it is going to take willpower. Thinking it is going to take conscious effort. But if you keep using the conscious effort to think it, it's going to get to the point where your subconscious mind, through repetition and using emotion, it's going to get to the point where your subconscious mind starts thinking those thoughts without you. That's when you start waking up with good ideas. That's when you in the shower just trying to wash your body and you just got a good idea out of nowhere. That's when you driving down the street just doing what you doing and you got good ideas out of nowhere. All these brands that I got, all these businesses that I got, they found me. I Coach Bosses found me. Dreams in Action found me. Creators Create found me. Big Abundant found me. Young Abundant found me, um, Successful Stoners, all of these different brands that I have. I wasn't looking for more businesses, I wasn't looking for more stuff to do, but when you get an idea that's so— you're like, man, that's hard, man. That's like— it's not work. You want to do it. You want to build that community. You want to read those books. You want to write those books. You want to travel to those places and stand on those stages and give those speeches. You want to coach those people. You want to motivate them. You want to inspiring. Once you get under the influence of what you want, do yourself a favor and learn this 5C process: clarity, calibration, confidence, competence, consistency. Get clear about what you want— that's clarity. Get calibrated to what you want. What's calibration? Calibration is the process of putting your attention on it. When you calibrate to a funny movie, you don't got to try to laugh. That's what happens when you calibrate to a funny movie. If you calibrate to a love story, you ain't got to try to get butterflies. That's what happens when you calibrate to a love story. If you calibrate to a scary movie, you don't got to try to get scared. That's what happens when you calibrate to a scary movie. When you get calibrated to what you don't want, when you thinking about that job you don't like, you thinking about the relationship you don't like, you don't got to try to feel overwhelmed. You don't got to try to feel sad. You don't got to try to feel anxious. You don't got to try to feel the That's what happens when you calibrate to what you don't want. But when you get calibrated to what you want, when you get a goal that you're excited about and you start calibrating to that goal, you don't got to try to feel confident. You don't got to try to feel motivated. You don't got to try to feel inspired. That's what happens when you get calibrated to what you want. Do yourself a favor, get calibrated to what you want. When you start calibrating to what you want, when you start making your decisions based on where you want to go, not based on what you don't like. I'm gonna be honest with you, I'm not even gonna lie. Oh man, you will surprise yourself. Let's calibrate to big dollars. Let's calibrate to being a money magnet. Let's calibrate to money chasing me down. Let's calibrate to people chasing you down to give you, to give you their credit card number. Let's probably— let's calibrate to being valuable. Let's calibrate to being resourceful. Let's calibrate to being creative. When you start calibrating on purpose, there are no limits. Limits. When you start calibrating on purpose, you will amaze yourself. You will wow yourself. The things that used to seem impossible become very— I could do that. I could do that. Once you start calibrating on purpose, man, you stretch your area of possibility. You stretch your area of possibility when you realize that your mind is infinite. The only limits that your mind have is the limits you impress upon it. When you stop impressing limits on your mind, all limits cease to exist. You're so powerful that you could choose bondage. Don't lock yourself up though. Free your mind. Allow your imagination to run wild. Start using your imagination on purpose. Start challenging yourself to think big. And if you just keep thinking big, I'm telling you, it's going to possess your body. If you just keep thinking big, those big thoughts are gonna possess your body and you're gonna find yourself taking the actions. Now, if you think the big thought once, that ain't gonna change nothing. If you think the big thought twice, that ain't gonna change nothing. But if you just use your willpower to keep thinking that big thought, even though it seems impossible, keep thinking it. Because everything— every time you think it, it become a little bit more possible. You gotta realize good ideas give birth to good ideas. They give birth to good ideas. They give birth to other good ideas. But at the same time, bad ideas give birth to bad ideas to give birth to bad ideas to give birth to other bad ideas. So an idea that starts this, this big, good or bad, an idea that starts this big can become huge if you just keep thinking it. You got to realize a belief is nothing but a thought that you keep thinking. A belief is nothing but a thought that you keep thinking. So when you first start thinking it, it's not a belief. When you first start thinking it, you don't even think it's possible. Keep thinking and watch what happens. Keep thinking. And now at first you're gonna have to think it on purpose. You're gonna have to think it on purpose. That's what calibration is. I'm gonna get clear about what I want. That's the first C. But after I get clear about what I want, I'm gonna start thinking it on purpose. I'm gonna start sending my mind there on purpose. I'm gonna start sending my imagination there on purpose. As I send my imagination there, I'm gonna get energized. I'm gonna get activated. If I keep Thinking it. I'm telling you, if you think it long enough, if you think it repetitiously enough, it's gonna get to the point where it's something that you want to do. It's gonna get to the point where it's something that you can't wait to do. It's gonna get to the point where it's something that nobody can talk you out of because you've already seen it vividly in your own mind. You gotta get in the concept of holding it in your head. If you just hold it in your head, you'll— man, I'm telling you, you are accidentally holding in your your hands. Every time you think it, it's going to be a little bit less resistance. Every time you think it, it's going to be a little bit less resistance. And when you find yourself in that resistance-free place, good ideas gonna start flowing, the circumstances gonna start flowing. You're gonna literally become a magnet for everything necessary to make that thing happen. Guys, when you look up the word manifest in the dictionary, the word manifest literally means to make obvious to the eye or the mind. That's what it means. It don't mean to hope for. It doesn't mean to wish for. It means to make obvious to the eye or the mind. What are you making obvious to your mind? Are you making wealth obvious to your mind, or are you making lack obvious to your mind? Are you making health obvious to your mind, or are you making sickness obvious to your mind? Are you making more than enough obvious to your mind, or are you making not enough obvious to your mind? Because that's what what you manifest. You manifesting every second of every day. You're manifesting. Something is obvious to your mind. I suggest that you purposely start choosing what you make obvious to your mind. Start choosing on purpose. Stop living like an accident. You're not an accident. You here for a reason. You got purpose. And I need you to start thinking on purpose. And as you start thinking on purpose, man, you're gonna start winning on accident. Start thinking on purpose so you can start winning on accident. If you can think it, you can do it. And you can think it, whatever it is. And the good thing, the good news is you get to decide what it is. Don't— I don't get to tell you what it is. Your parents don't get to tell you what it is. Your spouse don't get to tell you what it is. Nobody can tell you what it is except for you. But whatever it is, if you can think it, you can do it. I suggest you Sit down with some pencil and paper and figure out what it is. What is it that you want to do? What is it that you have a burning desire to do? Not what you have to do, not what you got to do. You're gonna do what you got to do. You always do what you got to do. But what do you have a burning desire to do? Even if it's impossible from where you stand right now, start sending your imagination over there. Start sending your imagination over there daily. And don't do it to make it happen. Do it because you feel good when you do it. Do it because you like the way you feel when you send your imagination there. Let your mind go there because it feels good to go there. I'm telling you, as you keep sending it there, as you keep wrapping your mind around this thing that you desire, as you keep visiting that place in your imagination, you're gonna start getting ideas, the resources, the people, the mentors, the everything you need. It's gonna start showing up. But none of that happens until you get in the habit of in your mind there. You got to get clear about what it is, cuz you can't hit a target that don't exist. That's the number one reason most people never get what they want, cuz they don't know what they want. They know what they don't want, they know what they don't want to happen, but they never take the time to say, okay, what would I rather have? Get in the habit of asking yourself, what would you rather have? Get in the habit of asking yourself, what would you rather have? And watch how you start creating it on accident. Watch how you start moving toward it on accident. Jay, how you know, man? This is what I've been doing for the past 2 decades. This is what I've been— this is what I do as a hypnotist. People come to me with, with, I, I want to stop doing— it's, I want to stop doing this, it's a behavior that I'm doing that I no longer want to do. First thing I find out is, okay, what do you want to do? I know you want to quit smoking, but what do you want to start? I don't, I don't, I, I don't want to help you quit smoking. I want to help you become a nonsmoker. I want to help you go through life and take good, deep, healthy breaths. I don't care about what you don't want to do. What do you want to do? That's part of the magic that we use as hypnotists. I don't care what you want to stop doing. What do you want to start doing? Because subconscious mind don't know how to stop doing something. If I come talk to you for an hour about stop smoking, the whole session was still about smoking. I got to talk to you about an hour about what you want to do. I got to talk to you about an hour being able to walk up a flight of stairs and still breathe. Got to talk to you about an hour about, about smelling good instead of smelling like a freight train. You don't program the mind by telling it what not to do. You program the mind by giving it clear-cut instructions around what you would like it to do. The subconscious mind doesn't negate information. It doesn't delete information. So anytime you think you telling it what not to do, you actually reinforcing the unwanted behavior. Anytime you don't be nervous, okay? Don't screw this up, okay? Imagine walking up to your girlfriend or your wife and saying, "Hey baby, don't get mad." Watch how quick she get mad. What she gonna say? What did you do? Because it's something— that's how the subconscious mind works. It doesn't know how to not do something. Instead of saying, don't screw this up, say, hey, you got this, let's knock it out the park. Instead of saying, don't be nervous, say, hey, be confident, put your shoulders back, put your chest out, put your chin up, let's go, we got this. Give it an image, give it a symbol of what to do, and watch how you accidentally carry it out. I'm gonna get ready to shut down, man. Thank y'all so much for kicking it with me.
