Jay Shaw tells weight-loss clients to stop saying they want to lose weight and instead picture the exact shirt size, jean number, and scale reading they're aiming for. When you vividly imagine standing at that weight, your shoulders pull back and chest opens before you've changed anything. Only then does he prescribe concrete steps like going to the gym or cutting carbs.

If you came to me and said, hey, Coach Jay, I want you to help me lose 100 pounds, I'm not sending you to Planet Fitness tomorrow. I'm not telling you to stop eating carbs tomorrow. I'm gonna say, okay, you want to lose 100 pounds? What size shirt do you want to wear? What size jeans do you want to wear? What size dress do you want to wear? Okay, you got a scale in your bathroom? Describe the scale to me that you got in your bathroom. Okay, you got one of them fancy scales. Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool. I want you to imagine standing on that scale in the body that you want to be. Look down. What number do you see? Okay. How do you feel as you look at that number? And this is the crazy thing. Just as I'm asking you those questions, your shoulders are going to naturally start going back. Your chest is going to naturally start going out. Your confidence is going to start going up in the body that you're sitting in. You don't got to wait in a new body to change your body language. You don't got to wait on a new body to change what your nervous system is doing. I'm gonna get you clear about what you want, because wanting to lose some weight is not the same thing as saying, I want to lose 40 pounds, I want to wear a large in shirts, I want to wear a 34 in jeans. Man, it's this one tracksuit that I got that I want to wear, but I don't like the way I look. I want to put that on and be comfortable. I want to be at the beach with my shirt off. Like, now when I get you calibrated to that, when I teach you how to feel that way no matter what's in front of you, then I'm gonna send you to Planet Fitness. And it's not gonna be, oh man, I gotta go to Planet Fitness. Oh man, let me get to Planet Fitness. My new body is waiting on me. Then I'm gonna tell you to stop eating carbs, but it's not gonna be, oh man, I kind of love bread, but I love this new body more. I love this image more. You got to get clear, calibrated, and confident.
