A clinical hypnotherapist breaks down hypnosis into three steps: capture attention, bypass the critical mind, and stimulate the subconscious. He shows how everyday examples like offering flowers or reframing objects can reprogram your internal state, arguing you're already being hypnotized by external inputs whether you notice it or not.

For those of you who don't know, my background is in clinical hypnotherapy. I've been doing hypnosis for about two decades. Let's talk about what hypnosis is. Hypnosis is a. I gotta get some new markers. There we go. Hypnosis is a three-step process that we refer to as A, B, S. Step one, get their attention. Funny how that word keeps coming up. Step 2, bypass the critical mind. Step 3, stimulate the subconscious. All right, so get their attention, bypass critical mind, stimulate the subconscious. That's the recipe for hypnosis. So let's say I come and I bring you some flowers. Get your attention, say, hey, brought you some flowers. Box one, check. Now you already have different associations for flowers. You already have different meanings for flowers. When I get you attaching those meanings to the flowers, I bypass your critical mind, and you go, "Oh, you made my day." I changed how you feel. I stimulated your subconscious. That's hypnosis. Yeah, you tracking with me? If I call you out your name, if I say, "You stupid B-I-T-C-H," before I did it, I had to get your attention. You already got meanings. You already got associations to that word. As soon as you start assigning your associations to that word, I bypass your critical mind. Then that's gonna change the way you feel. I stimulated your subconscious. I hypnotized you. I said something. You processed it. You feel different. That's hypnosis. Some people go, "Don't hypnotize me." You are already hypnotized. You are already being programmed, whether you want to or not. I suggest you start getting hypnotized on purpose. I suggest you start. Consciously picking what you give your attention to, consciously picking what you're going to assign definition to. Let me tell you something, what other people think don't matter.
