Hypnosis for Claustrophobia: Real Session (40 Years Cleared in 25 Minutes)

A hypnotherapist works with a client who's had claustrophobia for 40 years, tracing it to being locked in a closet at age eight. Through guided visualization and a finger-press anchor, the session reframes the fear from a burnt, itchy sensation into cool, jasmine-scented calm. The client leaves feeling strong and ready to test the shift in crowds and tight spaces.

Okay, so, so you say we, we struggle with being in, in tight spaces and feeling restricted?
Mm-hmm.
Okay, how long this been an issue for you?
Since I was probably about 8 years old.
8 years old. You say something happened with a, a, an older sibling or something?
Yeah, I was in a small closet reading a book and I had a little light in there and one of my sisters came in the room And they closed the door and it was like an older house, 1800s house where they had them little locks that you could only open up one way.
Mm-hmm.
Well, it was daylight when I went in there and they closed it and it was nighttime when somebody came and let me out.
Oh, wow. Okay. And you say to this day, that's still a problem for you?
Oh yes, yes, yes.
You can't even wear light clothes. Tell me some other ways that it shows up.
Um, large crowds. I don't— I can't deal with large crowds. Um, you know, like sometimes there's large concerts and everybody's standing around and it's kind of like, uh, not much room. Okay. I can't attend anything like that. I go to small concerts and they usually old school, you know.
Okay, so you could do that. So you can go to some concerts, but it can't be Okay. If you had to put a number on it, what's the amount of people that, that part of you will allow you to be around? Is 50 too many or that's, that's, that sounds doable?
Yeah.
What about 100?
I think 100, if it, like I said, it really depends on, like, I don't attend. Another thing that happened to me was I went to a concert. And, uh, it was Earth, Wind Fire way back in the day, and people bum rushed the door and they kind of trampled us in. And tramp, you know, I got kind of trampled, and that's another thing that kind of messed me up going to concerts. Okay. And being around big crowds.
For sure. Okay, so let me ask you this. If I had a magic wand And I could wave, and you could show up in those environments, you could wear the tighter clothes and all of that stuff. How would that feel inside of your body? What would be happening as you, as you did those things?
Oh, I would start sweating. I would kind of hyperventilate.
And, um— Oh no, I'm saying if you could.
If I could? Yeah, if I could.
Yeah, you could put on your favorite pair of jeans and they Fit the way you like them to fit, or if it's—
oh, then how would that feel? Good.
Okay, but give me more. Like, how— what would be going on inside of your body now? Not the first time it happened, but when it got to a point of like, this is my new normal, this is natural for me. How would that feel? What would it feel like to be able to—
Sexy. Oh, that would be— You know.
Okay.
A little energetic. Okay.
For sure. Okay, gotcha. So I feel sexy, I feel energetic. I think, uh, I'm gonna throw some things out there. There'll be a layer of about time. I've been waiting to do that. Would there be a layer of that in there? Like, about time I could finally—
yes, exactly this way.
Okay.
Yes, yes, yes.
Got you, got you, got you.
Kind of like now because I've been working out, so I kind of dropped 12 pounds.
Okay.
And I had some, some pants I couldn't put on. So I put them on and I was like, what, girl?
Okay. For sure. And we want to feel, we want to feel that feeling out in crowds.
Yes.
We want to feel that feeling as we just do what we do. So that feeling that we talking about, you can feel it now. I could tell by looking at your face. Where does that feeling live at in, in your body? What's, what, what do, what do you feel that at the heaviest?
I'm kind of all over.
All over.
Okay. Yeah.
Now, that, that thing that you describe as claustrophobia, where does that live in your body? What is that? Where does that spring from? Where's the birthplace? Or where does it sit in your body?
In my head.
In your head, as a thought or as a feeling?
Uh, Feeling.
A feeling. Point, point to where you feel it at in your head.
All of them. I don't know. I, I like— this is the area that it attacks. Okay.
That area.
The top half of me. Yeah. It attacks that area and it kind of like goes from here and then it ends up spreading to the rest of the body. I kind of like hype Ventilate, and I have to, uh, I have to get air, like cold air or something like that. Okay.
If, if, if that thing that lives in here starts here and then begins to spread out through the rest of the body, if it had a color, what color would it be?
Red.
Red. If it had a smell, what would it smell like?
I don't know, burnt comes to mind. Burnt.
Okay. Yeah, and that's exactly what I want to talk to— trust that mind. Okay, so this red burnt, what's the texture of it? Is it slimy? Is it gooey? Is it like a gas? Is it spiky?
Is it smooth?
What's the texture?
Yeah, kind of itchy, like itchy, kind of remind me of a wool sweater.
Like a wool sweater. We can take this sweater off.
Okay.
You got to— I'm about to blow your mind. I'm gonna show you something crazy about just how the mind works and how quick it can rearrange a thought. This is what I want you to do. Are you holding your phone or is it propped up somewhere?
I'm holding it. I can prop it up.
We're gonna need to prop it up. We're gonna need your hands free.
I get this without tearing up my nightstand out here.
Let's see.
Let me close this.
Okay, okay, okay.
Oh, sorry.
All right. Okay, so this is what I want you to do. Are you left-handed or right-handed?
Right-handed.
Right hand. I want you to take your right hand. I want you to put it out in front of your face like this, your palm facing the face. I want you to put it up to where you got to look up at that hand. I want you to put the fingers together like this. Yep, all the fingers touching. I want you to take a slow, deep breath in. As you exhale, I want you just to put your undivided attention on your middle finger. And as you put your attention on that middle finger, I want you to imagine that nothing else matters except that finger and the sound of my voice. Let everything else just fall to the background. And as you focus on that finger, what's going to happen is— watch this— those fingers are going to start spreading all on their own. I don't want you to help them, but I don't want you to stop them. Those fingers just start spreading, spreading, spreading. That's it. And the more those fingers spread, that hand starts to make its way to your face. It's like your face is a magnet and your hand is a piece of metal. Now, when that hand touches your face, I'm gonna say deep sleep. You're not gonna actually fall asleep, but what's gonna happen is you're gonna allow yourself to relax completely. You're gonna allow your eyes to close and become so heavy that you couldn't unstick them even if you wanted to. And you're gonna allow yourself to go to a place where my words can create your reality, where you can hear what I say, you can hear— you can feel what I say, you can feel— you can believe what I say, you can believe. And you're gonna allow that to happen instantly. Nod your head if that's okay with you. Now I want you to keep paying attention as that hand moves itself, those fingers keep spreading. Spreading, spreading. That's right. The hand keeps coming in closer and closer to your face. When that hand touches your face, I'm gonna say deep sleep. The instant I say deep sleep, and every time I say deep sleep, you're gonna go deeper and deeper into relaxation. And you're gonna notice that the deeper you go, the better you feel. You're gonna notice that the better you feel, the deeper you go. And as you find yourself going down into that deep state of relaxation— That's right. Every muscle in your body already starting to relax. You feel those eyes wanting to close. You can already feel freedom getting closer and closer and closer. I want you to go ahead and pick out that first outfit that you're gonna put on on the other side of these changes. That's it. Feel those eyelids getting heavy. As you feel those eyelids getting heavy, I want you to think about the people you love. Hear their voices. See their faces. Feel the feelings you feel for those people. Deep sleep all the way down. Each and every time I say deep sleep, you go deeper and deeper. Each and every time I say deep sleep, those eyelids get heavier and heavier. I want you to imagine that those eyelids are so heavy that you couldn't unstick them even if you wanted to. What would that feel like? Eyelids so heavy that they just don't work. Make that happen now. Test them. Make sure they stuck. Try to unstick those eyelids and notice that you can't. Notice that the harder you try, the tighter they stick. The tighter they stick, the harder you try. And you get caught up in this loop of trying, but no matter how hard you try, you just can't unstick those eyelids until you finally give up. You quit trying and you let that same relaxation that you feel in the eyelids move throughout the rest of your body, from the top of your head all the way down to the soles of your feet. Each and every time I say deep sleep, you just go deeper. Your body supports you. It doesn't allow you to tip over or fall out. You just go deeper, deeper, and deeper. And as you sit in that deep state of relaxation, I want you to find that version of you that's comfortable in all environments, that version of you that could walk into any room with your shoulders back, your chest out, and your chin up. And when you find her, say, I found her. I found her.
That's all.
I want you to notice how confident she is. I want you to notice how free she is. I want you to notice the things that that version of you could do that that old version of you couldn't do. That's it. And I want you to take your thumb and your index finger and press them together, kind of like that okay signal. And from this point forward, anytime you press those 2 fingers together, you're gonna feel that calm, that confidence. I don't care where you are. I don't care how many times a day you need it. Anytime you need to access that confidence, anytime you need to access that feeling, it's as simple as pressing those 2 fingers together. I want you to think about times in your life where you felt comfortable. I want you to think about times in your life, in your life where you felt completely in control of the situation. And I want you to imagine that all of those feelings are being concentrated right into those 2 fingers. Because from this day forward, every time you press those 2 fingers together, You're going to feel that confidence, and there's nothing you could do about it. You're going to feel that security, and there's nothing you could do about it. In a second, I'm going to snap my fingers, and when I snap my fingers, that confidence, that feeling that you feel, is going to multiply by a thousand. Watch this. There we go. Don't be surprised. Feel that jolt. There it is. Just let it take over. Now I want you to try to stop that confidence and notice that you can't. I want you to try to override that confidence and bring back that feeling of feeling trapped. Bring back that feeling of feeling out of control and notice that the Confidence refuses to subside, and I really want you to try. I really want you to try to turn that confidence off and notice what happens. Notice that the harder you try to turn it off, the more confident you feel. That's it. Now I want you to let those two fingers go, and I want you to think about the last four digits of your phone number backwards. Don't say them out loud. Weirdos on the internet don't say them out loud. But I want you to think about the last four digits of your phone number. Backwards. And when you could do that, say, I got it.
I got it.
Okay, now I want to— I want you to press those 2 fingers together and explain to me what happens in your body as soon as you press those 2 fingers together.
I feel strength.
Okay, so this is what we're gonna do. We're going to pretend that that chair that you're sitting on, whatever it is you're sitting on, we're going to pretend that that's a time machine.
Okay.
And we're going to take this version of you that feels strong, this version of you that feels confident, this version of you that has this strength, this version of you with all of your learnings, that's lived all of this life, that's been to these concerts, that's been in these environments, that got these desires that she's excited to step into. We're going to take her back through time and space, all the way back to that little 8-year-old girl in that closet. And you're going to sit in that closet with her, but you're going to go in that closet with her and you're going to give her this strength. You hear me? Nod your head when you're ready to do that. That's it. Let it out because we're about to re-regulate that nervous system. That's it. You ready?
Yes.
That's it. 1, 2, and 3. Feel yourself washing back through time. Feel the calendar shift and feel those pages turning. Feel yourself moving through the weeks, through the months, through the years, and you show up as this confident version of yourself. Go ahead and release that, that button in the finger and press it again. Feel that confidence overtake your body. I said I want you to show up in that environment. I want you to put your eyes on that little girl. When you could become aware of that little girl, when you can see that younger version of yourself, say, I see her.
I see her.
I want you to give her a big hug. I want you to let her know that you will protect her. I want you to let her know, as soon as we got out of this closet, we gonna beat all of them up. We gonna get on the business. I want you to let her know that she's safe, and I want you to tell that little girl whatever it is she needed to hear in that moment. I want you to take as much time as you need to give that little girl all the resources that she needs. I need— and I want you to press that anchor as many times as you need to, to keep that confidence strong and to keep it rolling.
That's it.
Notice how that confidence washes in every time you press it. And I want you to see that younger version of yourself, and I want you to teach her what I just taught you. I want you to teach her how to push those 2 fingers together and feel that feeling. I want you to see that little girl pushing those feelings together. And I want you to see her body language change. I want you to see her facial expression change. That's it. Now, as you do that, I'm curious what's happening inside of your body.
I feel relaxed.
Okay. That area—
Good.
That used to be red and burnt and itchy, that ugly wool sweater. What's in place of that now?
Blue. Blue.
Okay. It's blue.
Is it blue?
What does it smell like? Does it still smell burnt?
No.
What does it smell like?
Jasmine.
Jasmine. I like that. Is it still itchy?
No.
What does it feel like?
Silky.
Silky, I want you to look that little girl right in her eyes, and I want you to say this to her specifically: I love you, and there's nothing you could do about it.
I love you, and there's nothing you can do about it.
I want you to give her the biggest hug that you've ever given. I want you to notice how she melts in your arms. I want you to notice how safe she feels in your arms. I want you to give your nervous system permission right here in this moment to forget to remember, to remember to forget about anything that's no longer serving I want you to give your subconscious mind permission right here to leave the past in the past so that you can walk fully into your future, so that you can wear whatever it is you want to wear, so you can go in whatever environment it is that you want to go in. And you're going to remember that you got that tool anytime you need it. Anytime that old behavior tries to come back, you got those tools right there. It's as simple as pressing those 2 fingers together, and that confidence is going to fill your body, and there's nothing you can do about it. I want you to try your best to feel that old claustrophobic Feeling right now and notice that you can't. I really want you to try. I want you to notice that your nervous system feels so safe, it feels so secure. Now, your nervous system still has a job to do, which is to protect you. Now, if there's a reason to be on alert, if there's a reason to, to be conscious of what's going on around you and be on high alert, you will. We don't want to turn that off. But from this point forward, any useless, unnecessary fear, any useless, unnecessary anxiety—gone, never to return again. That's it. Feel that moving through every cell. Feel that moving through every fiber of your body. Every breath that you take, these changes integrate deeper and deeper into your subconscious, under the thoughts, under the beliefs, into the cells, into the fibers of your being. Now, as you sit in that moment, I want you to imagine your body. I want you to imagine your mind coming out of your body. I want you to imagine the mind just jumping outside of the body, and I want you to imagine seeing yourself from outside of yourself. When you could do that, say, I see me.
I can't.
Take your time.
I see me.
There you go. Look at you telling that mind what to do. I want you to just imagine that mind floating up out of the room, leaving the body behind, floating up into the air. I want you to feel yourself leaving the body behind. I want you to see you here and that body down there. I want you to float right on up out of the room, on up into the sky. I want you to imagine what it would feel like to be hovering over your neighborhood. I want you to imagine that there's this big, huge bullseye, like a big huge target in between you and that home, in between you and that body. When you can conceptualize that, however that looks for you— might see it, you might just know that it's there, you might just get a sense of it— but when you can become aware of that big huge bullseye in between you and the body, let me know.
I feel it.
Now this is what we're gonna do. We're gonna make sure that we got every last ounce of that useless, unnecessary fear out of you. In a moment, I'm gonna count from one to three, and I'm gonna say swish. And when I do, what's gonna happen is you're gonna blast directly through the center of that bullseye, just like a bow and arrow. Now, as you blast through the center of that bullseye, you're gonna feel that useless, unnecessary fear one last time. But by the time I say, you're gonna come out on the other side of that bullseye, and you go right back into this calm confidence. You're gonna feel that itchy orange-red burnt sweater starting to come on your body, but as soon as I say, you're gonna go right back to the blue one that smells like lavender. Nod your head if you understand. 1, 2, and 3. Swish! That's it, right back to that blue sweater. That's it. Feel that calm. Feel that sense of in control. That's it. Find yourself going to a neutral state. That's it. Again, we're gonna go through that bullseye again. We're gonna make sure we get out every last ounce of it. 1, 2, and 3. Swish. That's it. Find that blue sweater. Notice how every time we go through that bullseye, that itchy sweater gets less and less itchy. It becomes less and less red. It starts to look more blue every time we swish. That's it. Notice at this point it started not to even start up anymore. We're finding ourselves being able to jump right to— right into the blue. We're teaching our subconscious mind that that thing that used to trigger the itchy sweater now triggers this blue jasmine smell. Swish. Ah, that's it. And you feel the mind Coming back down into the home only as quickly as you can feel these changes happening in every cell, in every fiber of your body. And you come back into the room and you look at yourself from outside of yourself and you can see the changes in your face. You can see the changes in your body language. You see the confidence. And you put the mind back inside of the body and you give that little girl a big hug. And you notice not only are you different, but she's different. I want you to look at that little girl one more time. I want you to give her a big hug, and I want you to let her know that you're getting ready to come back to the here and now. But on your way out, I want you to kick that door open for that little girl. Kick that door open. That's it. Notice the confidence that that puts inside of her. Notice the look on her face. That's it. Now I want you to shut I want you to watch that little girl walk out of that door, and in a second I'm gonna say, and you're gonna travel back through time, back to the present. This is what's gonna happen. You're gonna bring all of these resources with you. You're gonna bring all this confidence with you. You're gonna bring all of this understanding with you, and you will find that those useless, unnecessary fears, those useless, unnecessary thoughts can never reach you again. Because that's not you anymore. You feel good, you feel safe, you feel comfortable. 1, 2, and 3. Feel yourself traveling back through time. As in, now if you come back into time, I'm curious, how does— what's going on inside of your body right now?
I feel light.
You feel light. Okay, I want you to imagine later this evening going into your closet, finding the most form-fitting thing that you could put your hands on. You got anything in your closet like that?
Yes.
I want you to imagine vividly as you can putting it on and let me know what happens inside of your body as you imagine putting it on.
I feel fine.
You feel fine. I want you to imagine it's the day after tomorrow and you do it again. I want you to go a month into the future and you did every day since. That's it. I want you to imagine being out and about wearing those clothes that the old you couldn't wear, but this version can. That's it. Now I'm gonna count from 0 all the way back to 5. Every number that I say is going to integrate these changes, these changes even deeper into your subconscious mind.
5.
Every word that I say, you'll feel these changes going even deeper. Now, when I say zero, you're going to go even deeper into hypnosis. When I say one, you're gonna forget to remember and remember to forget anything that no longer serves you. As I count from two all the way up to five, you're gonna find yourself coming back into the room. By the time I say five, you're gonna pop those eyes open. You're gonna feel amazing. You're gonna feel rested, and you're gonna be excited about going to test this work. Zero. Going even deeper into the experience, letting those changes really take root in your nervous system. One. Forget to remember, remember to forget anything that no longer serves you. Leaving the past in the past, getting excited about the future and dropping yourself fully in this present moment. That's right. 2. Feeling oxygen moving through the body. 3. Starting to wiggle your toes, wiggle your fingers. 4, deep breath in. Deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep. And as you exhale, 5, open your eyes, feeling absolutely amazing, absolutely recharged. Now we got some, some work to test out. Whenever you feel ready, you got to go test that work. You got to go put yourself in an environment that the old you would have avoided and notice how your body feels. Also be mindful of that tool that we put in your finger. I want you to push those 2 fingers together right now and notice what happens. That's it. What happens when you press those 2 fingers together?
It feels cool. My body feels cool. I feel strength.
That's it. So that's your tool. That's your gift. Use it anytime you need to. The more you use it, the stronger it gets. Use it, use it, use it. So, um, I'm excited for you. I want you to go out and, and test it. I want you to go out and try on some clothes or, you know, do something that the old you couldn't do and let me know what happens for you.
I will. Definitely, I will.
You got any questions for me?
Thank you.
You're welcome. You're welcome. You're welcome.
