Coach Jay breaks down his 5C process for transformation: clarity, calibration, confidence, competence, and consistency. He argues that thoughts build neural structures that shape who you become, and that writing concrete goals, focusing on what you want rather than what you don't, and using affirmations rewires your subconscious to make change stick.

Doing a lot of live streaming on here these days, so if you haven't already, hit that subscribe button, turn on those notifications. We haven't locked down exact time slots yet, just playing around, learning the algorithm. Excuse me. So that we can get a set time on the schedule. But let's get into it, man. You could be doing half anything you desire, anything you desire. If you could think it, you could do it. The only thing that's off limits for you is the thing that you can't wrap your mind around. But the good news is you can learn to wrap your mind around anything. You could build a neural structure to support any belief. In fact, everything that you believe right now started off as just a thought, but it's a thought that kept getting introduced. It's a thought that you kept sending your mind to. It was a thought that was put in front of you over and over and over again to the point where the body learned how to do it without you. But if the body can learn to do low self-esteem without you, it can learn to do confidence without you. If the body can learn to do depression without you, it can learn to do chronic happiness without you. You got to go through that conditioning process. You got to go through what I call calibrating. For those of you who don't know my work, I'm Coach Jay. I coach bosses and I coach bosses through what I call the 5C process. 5Cs are clarity, calibration, confidence, competence, consistency. Over thousands of sessions, I've noticed that if you do these 5 things, it's nothing that you can't do. If you get clear about what you want, not what you don't want, if you get clear about what you want, start putting your attention on it regularly and start calibrating to what you want. When you calibrate to a funny movie, it makes you laugh. You don't got to try to laugh. Just calibrate to the movie. When you calibrate to a sad movie, it makes you sad. You don't got to try to get sad. Just calibrate to the movie. When you get clear about what you want and you can define what you want in clear, precise details, and you start calibrating to it, you don't gotta try to feel creative. You don't gotta try to feel inspired. You don't gotta try to feel motivated. Good ideas start finding you. Excitement, energy, enthusiasm starts to find you. And if you just keep calibrating, what'll happen is you'll accidentally become confident. Now this is the natural flow of things. But most people run it in the opposite direction. They get clear about what they don't want. They think about what they don't want. They have discussions about what they don't want. They journal about what they don't want. They join support groups and talk about what they don't want. They calibrate to what they don't want, which causes them to accidentally become confident in what they don't want. And then from that unconfident place is where most people take action from. They calibrated that it's over, that the market is oversaturated and that they're not a good entrepreneur and that they don't know how to do the things, but they're going to try to do it anyway. They're going to try to build a website. They're going to try to network. And they arrive at the conclusion that they're not a good entrepreneur when that was never the problem to begin with. The problem is that you was clear about what you didn't want. You were calibrated to what you didn't want and you ultimately became confident in what you didn't want. You got to turn that whole thing over and run it on in, in the reverse. Get clear about what you want. Get calibrated to what you want. Become confident in what you want. You don't got to force confidence. Just keep calibrating. You don't got to make yourself confident. You just got to keep calibrating. If you just keep calibrating, I promise you, you will become confident on accident. If you can think it, you could do it. I need you to put that in the first person. If I can think it, I can do it. If I can hold it in my head, I can hold it in my hands. Now, if I can't hold it in my head, I can't hold it in my hands. But step one to creating something big, step one to doing something you've never done before, step one to taking a thought out of your head, to taking a desire out of your heart and turn it in, turning it into something that you could taste, touch, feel, hear, and see. Step one is you got to get it in your head. You got to think about it. You got to build a neural network around it. You got to build neural structures around what you want. If you don't have the thinking to support habit, you can't build it. If you don't have the thinking to support the business, you can't build it. If you don't have the thinking to maintain the relationship, you can't keep it. You might can get it, but if you don't have the thinking infrastructure to sustain it, you're going to lose it. You gotta build it in your head. You gotta get the concept in your head. And as I do this work, what I realize is most people don't know what they want. I see we got 3 people in here. I can't see your name. Say hi, get in the chat, say something. I'm Coach Jay. Make sure you guys hit that Subscribe button, hit that, um, ring that bell. We're about to start going live a lot on YouTube. We're taking YouTube really, really serious as part of our 2025 strategy. So we're going to be putting a lot of our content right over here on YouTube. You don't want to miss out. We got free communities and everything that we'll be giving access to through YouTube. Hit that follow button, tap in with me. And guys, make no mistake about it, this is a discussion. Not a podcast. If you want to catch the podcast, catch the podcast. I love going live because I like talking to people. I love going live because I like to be right there with you. If you got a question, put it in the chat. I'm gonna answer it. If you got a comment, put it in the chat. I'll acknowledge it. But back to what we were talking about, 98% of people don't know what they want. They don't know what you want. And my question to you is, how do you get what you want if you don't know what you want? A lot of people know what they don't want, and they making decisions based on what they don't want. They picked a new job based on what they don't like about the old job. They picked their next relationship based on what they didn't like about the old relationship. They picked the new diet based on what they didn't like about the old diet. You got to stop making your new decisions based off your— the unwanted stuff in your life. You got to start making decisions from under the influence of what you want. You gotta get inspired by what you want. Then you pick this next job because it meets the qualifications of what you want. You pick this next relationship because it meets the qualifications of what you want. Wanting— not wanting to lose is not the same thing as having a burning desire to win. Not wanting to be sad is not the same thing as wanting to wake up daily and enjoy my life and think positive thoughts. Not wanting something is not the same thing as wanting what you want. You got to get under the influence of what you want. And something you might be thinking, well, Jay, I don't know what I want. Let me tell you the one of the fastest, most simplest ways to figure out what you want. Look at what you don't like and ask yourself, what would you rather have? If you want to know what you want professionally, look at what you don't like about your professional career and say, well, what would I rather have? That's how I got to do what I do now. I used to be in the military. I hated being in the military. I didn't like being in the military because I couldn't wear my beard. I couldn't wear my earrings. I couldn't grow my hair. Couldn't wear what I wanted to wear. I couldn't live where I wanted to live. Couldn't visit my family whenever I wanted to. So I had this situation that I didn't like. One day I sat down and said, well, man, what would I, what would I rather have? I want freedom. I want choice. I want to grow my beard. I want to wear my jewelry. I want to grow my hair. I want to do what I want to do. I want, I want to work for me. I want my earning potential to be Limitless. I don't want my paycheck to be tied to how many stripes on my shoulder. I want my paychecks to be linked to my creativity. I want my paychecks to be linked to my passion. I want to be an entrepreneur. I want to coach people. I want to teach people they could be, do, and have anything they desire. See, I use what I didn't like to get clear about what I would rather have, and my whole life started changing quickly once I started getting clear about what I wanted. Now that I know what I want, I know what books to read. Now that I know what I want, I know what podcasts to listen to. Now that I know what I want, I know what classes to take at the community college. Now that I know what I want, I know that I could do things like join Toastmasters. I know that I could join networking groups. Now that I know what I want, I'm hanging with other people who want something similar to what I want. When I knew what I wanted, I accidentally started morphing into the person that I wanted to become gradually. I didn't just wake up the next day as this person, but gradually reading a book here, a new relationship there, a new friend here, a new idea here, a new idea there. And that all picked up momentum and gave birth to what I do now. But step one, you, you never have that transformation until you go, okay, what would I rather have? 98% of people never ask theyself that question. Most people, when I meet them on the first session, they're not coming to me saying, hey, this is what I would like to be doing. Can you help me learn this set of habits? They come to me telling me what they don't want to do. They come to me telling me what they don't want to be thinking. They come to me with a problem. My first job in helping them is saying, okay, I understand that you don't want that, but what do you want? I just told you I don't want to be unconfident. Okay, what do you want? I want to be confident. What does that mean? What you mean, what does that mean? I just told you I want to be confident. Look, if I go ask 10 different people what it means to be confident, I'm going to get 10 different answers. What does confidence mean to you? I need an answer like, hey man, I want to walk— I want to be able to walk into any situation with my shoulders back, my chest out, and my chin up, thinking clear, positive thoughts, knowing that my words matter. I, I'm done second-guessing myself. I want to be certain. I want to be really bought into. See, I've been studying this manifesting stuff. I really want to believe in that stuff. I want to know like I know like I know that my thoughts create my life. Now, now I can help you because we got a clear-cut goal. It's measurable. We, we could tell if we're getting closer to it or if we're getting further away from it. That's step one to change your life. You got to get clear about what you want. You can't get what you want until you know what you want. So I'm asking you, do you know what you want? Put it in the comments, yes or no. You don't got to tell us what you want because I'm not real big on sharing what I want, especially early on. So you ain't got to put it out here on YouTube for the world to see, but just internally, do you know what you want? And if the answer is yes, you need to go write it down. You get a whole new clarity when you write something down. It's beauty in writing things down because writing it down is the first step to taking it out of your head and making it tangible. Now it's out of your head. You can ball it up. You can touch it. You can rip it. You can interact with it. When it's in your head, it's just an idea. But when you put it on that paper, you just introduced it into the physical world. Write down what you want. If it's not written down, it's not a goal. Write it down. And you're not married to it just because you write it down. But if it's the goal for right now, why not write it down? Write it down, put it on paper, put it where you can see it, give it attention daily. That's step one. Write it down, put it where you can see it, start giving your attention to it, start giving your attention to it. And we gonna just allow that to pick up momentum. We gonna allow that to pick up momentum. In my 5-step process, we don't even really start taking action till step 4. Step— the first 3 steps is all about changing you internally. You gotta understand, like, if you go plant An acorn. You gotta understand that acorn gonna start to grow down before it starts to grow up. That acorn is gonna start to develop its root system before it starts to develop branches and leaves and trunks. Okay, when you get a new idea, when you first plant that seed, you gotta understand it's gonna make new neural networks, it's gonna make new neural pathways, it's gonna make new connections in your mind. It's gonna change the way you feel, it's gonna change the way you think, and eventually it's going to spit out action. But when you're trying to spit out action before you can change the way you think and change the way you feel and develop that, that root system, you hustling backwards, man. I'm at— the more I do this, the more I do entrepreneurship, the more I do self-development, the more I work on myself and help others work on themselves, I realize, man, this thing is 80% thinking and 20% doing. It's 80% getting right in here. It's 80% getting right in here. But when you get right in here and get right in here, man, the doing flow through you. When you get right in here, the doing is easy. When I got right in here and got right in here, I remember a time where I used to struggle to be on stages and give speeches. I needed time to prepare for a talk. But when I got that material right in here, when I got the beliefs right in here, when I got the content right in here, and when I got the confidence in here, man, I could be in a crowd at an event that I'm not scheduled to talk at, and they can go, hey Jay, um, so-and-so didn't show up. You think you could do 40 minutes? Say, I'm only getting 40 minutes. It take me 40 minutes to get set up. It take me 40 minutes to get, get, get myself— I could do 40. Can, can I have an hour? Can I please have an hour? I, I'm— I, I want the hour. Now that I'm clear, calibrated, and confident, I can wake up out of bed and get on, get on the stage. I could wake up out of bed and do a live stream. That live stream might be 15 minutes long. That live stream might be 2 hours long, depend on what type of time I'm on that day and what my schedule looking like that day. Guys, understand this. Understand this, if you can think it, you can do it. But you gotta be able to think it. You gotta get it in your head. Once you get it in that head, stuff that used to be physically hard— think about it, we all know people or came across somebody who goes to the gym multiple times a week. They don't gotta talk theyself into it, they ain't gotta try to want to, they identify as a gym rat. The neural structure has been laid, they feel feel it in their heart. They— and you can look in their closet and tell this a person who likes to work out. You can look at their Amazon cart and the stuff they buy. This is the person who, who values working out. This is a person who sees themselves. This is a person who identifies as a gym rat. But the, the, the process was built in their head. The process was built in their mind. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. In his heart, he feels like a gym rat. He identifies as a gym rat. So since he identifies as a gym rat, he wants to go to the It ain't, oh man, I gotta go to the gym. It's, um, I can't wait to get off so I can go to the gym, man. I only got time to get an hour in a day, man. Okay, I'm, I'm gonna come, I'm gonna come again early in the morning. But it's the identity, it's the way that he sees himself that makes the, the action flow natural. Imagine if you had that type of mindset in your bit. You see yourself as an entrepreneur, you feel like a thriving entrepreneur. Okay, I gotta make a business plan. Okay, it's time to develop a website. Okay, it's time to develop a funnel. Oh, I need to read this book. No, it's I want to read that book. I want to build that new funnel. I want to I want to work on that new website. I want to get that new copy. You want to do the work once you've done the internal stuff. Once you've created that neural structure, once you've created that belief, once you've created that identity, once you clear, calibrated, and confident. You want to do the doing. You want to do the doing. Guys, you can— if you could think it, you could do it. You can be, do, and have anything you desire. Anything you desire. Your only limit is your own imagination. If you stretch your imagination, if you widen your imagination, if you expand your imagination, you expand your life on accident. You expand your bank account on accident. You expand your influence on accident just through learning how to purposely use your imagination. You gotta learn how to imagine yourself as that guy. You gotta learn how to imagine yourself as that girl. You gotta learn how to imagine yourself as that entrepreneur. You gotta learn how to imagine yourself as that person you desire to be. Because you gotta understand, your— that internal representation of yourself is what your nervous system responds to. That internal representation of yourself is what the cells and the fibers in your body respond to. That internal representation of yourself is what your endocrine system responds to. Your endocrine system not responding to the economy, it's responding to what you telling it about the economy. Your endocrine system not responding to your bank account balance, it's responding to the story you tell it about your bank account balance. You gotta figure out what you want so that you can start telling yourself a story that helps you feel like you need to feel so that you can think like you need to think so that you can act like you need to act to get the results you wanna get. You trying to get the results, but you haven't changed the stuff that come before the results. Before a result, there is an action. Before an action, there is a feeling. Before a feeling, there is a thought. You gotta start working at the level of thought. And when you change the way you think, you accidentally change the way you feel. When you change the way you feel, you accidentally change the way you act. You trying to purposely change the way you act—that's not how it works. You try to use willpower to change the way you act. By the time it gets to that, it's too late for willpower. You gotta use willpower to control how you think. You gotta use willpower to say, "I'm not gonna think about that. I'm gonna think about this. I'm not gonna focus on that. I'm gonna focus on this. I'm not gonna focus on not enough money. I'm gonna focus on." More money. I'm not going to sit here and get hypnotized by the fact that there's not enough money in this bank account. I'm going to say, how much money would I like to see in the bank account? Okay, $5,000. I'mma focus on the $5,000. I'm not going to focus on the absence of the $5,000, cuz that's going to create a bigger absence. I'm going to concentrate on— I'm going to focus on— if I'm going to overthink, I'mma overthink about how to get the $5,000. I'm not going to overthink about the fact that the $5,000 not there. If I don't like the way my body look, if I'm overweight, I'm not going to focus on the fact that I'm overweight. I'mma focus on getting the body I want. If I'mma overthink, I'mma overthink in the direction of what I want. I'm not going to sit here and overthink about what I don't want, because I understand that my thoughts create things. I understand that we live in an attraction-based universe. There is no law of exclusion, there's only attraction. So when I say, hey, I don't want this, well, all I'm doing is pulling it closer. When I say, hey, I don't want that, all I'm doing is pulling it closer. You gotta understand, the subconscious mind does not negate information. Like, so my background is in hypnosis. I'm a clinical hypnotherapist, but I also love street hypnosis. I love entertainment hypnosis. So when I was out doing a— like, if you go far back on the YouTube channel, you'll find videos of me going out hypnotizing people, laying them out in the middle of the street, putting them to sleep. But sometimes I would walk up on people and they go, man, you can't hypnotize me. That's not gonna work on me. And I would say things like, man, you don't gotta relax right now. You don't got to relax at all. But the thing I understand is that the subconscious mind knows what relax means. So even though I'm saying you don't have to relax, subconscious mind going, yeah, I know what relax is. I know what relaxing mean. You don't got to relax. You don't got to close your eyes. You don't gotta imagine that those eyelids getting heavy. You feel that? They go, man, what you doing? I ain't doing nothing. I'm telling you, you don't got to relax. But I understand that the subconscious mind don't delete. If I say, hey, don't think about a pink elephant, first thing you're gonna do is think about a pink elephant. If I say— if I walk up to my girlfriend, I say, hey baby, don't get mad. She gonna, she gonna, she gonna say, what did you do? Now you sitting there thinking, I said don't get mad. That's not how the subconscious mind works. The subconscious mind does not delete. So when you tell yourself stuff like, hey, don't screw this up, subconscious mind go, screw this up? Yeah, I know how to do that. You tell yourself, don't be anxious. Subconscious mind go, anxious? Yeah, that's sweaty palms, shaky, nervous, unclear thoughts. Y'all know what that is. Stop telling yourself what not to do and start telling yourself what to do. One of the biggest mindset hacks in the world, one of the quickest ways to start shifting the direction of your life. Stop telling yourself what not to do, start telling yourself what to do. Stop telling yourself don't screw this up, tell yourself hey, walk into this confident and knock this out of the park. You got to realize the subconscious mind responds to symbols, feelings, and emotion. The subconscious mind does not run off logic. The subconscious mind does not run off reason. The subconscious mind does not run off analysis. The subconscious mind does what we call deductive reasoning. It assumes a feeling as a fact. When you feel confident, you confident. When you feel like a screw-up, you a screw-up. When you feel like that guy, you that guy. When you feel other than that guy, you other than that guy. You gotta get in the con— you gotta get— learn how to control your feelings. You gotta get in the habit of telling your thoughts what to think and telling your feelings how to feel. And as, um, Napoleon— not Napoleon Hill, as Neville Goddard said, feeling really is the secret. If you wanna be successful, you gotta learn how to feel successful. You gotta learn how to feel successful while the bank account empty. You gotta learn how to feel successful while the calendar empty. You gotta learn how to feel successful even in, in your singleness. You gotta learn how to feel successful before anything out there changes. Cuz if you need things out there to change before you can feel different, you got an uphill battle. You got— because you're gonna have a hard time accessing creative thoughts until you feel creative. You're gonna have a hard time accessing wealthy thoughts until you feel wealthy. You're gonna have a hard time thinking success until you feel success. Before you could think it, you got to feel it. Those thoughts and those feelings, they intertwine. Like, your, your scientifically feeling— speak scientifically speaking, your thoughts create your feelings. But what then happens is your brain notices the feeling and it creates another thought equal to the feeling. So your thoughts create your feelings, but then your feelings influence your thoughts, and they get caught up in this this cycle, you got to get up in that thought-feeling-thought-feeling-thought-feeling-thought-feeling-thought-feeling the world, and you got to change something there. But what most people want to do is they want to leave the thoughts and the feelings the same, and they want to change the way they act. That's not how you designed to work. You want to keep thinking and feeling the same. You want to keep complaining. You want to keep hating on people who got what you got. You want to keep being miserable, but you want to act different. That's not how it work. Think about it. When you angry, you ain't got to try to ball your face up. You ain't got to try to tense your body up. That's what happens when you get angry. When something is funny to you, when something is hilarious to you, you ain't got to try to laugh. You ain't got to try to smile. Even as I'm just talking about it, a smile naturally spreads on my face. Because what's happening is my body is responding to the way I think and feel. My body is responding to the way I think and feel. So if I want to do successful, my best path to doing successful is to learn how to think and feel successful. But if I need the bank account to be different before I can think and feel successful, I'm kind of stuck. Because the bank account not gonna go up until I'm doing successful things, and I can't do successful things until I learn how to think and feel successful. But if I'm thinking and feeling failure, if I'm thinking and feeling I can't do it, and from I can't do it I'm trying to do successful, I'm calling it bad luck. I'm saying it's because I'm Black. I'm saying it's because I'm short. I'm saying it's because they don't like me. I think and feel like a failure, so I'm getting the results of a failure. Change the way you think so that you can change the way you feel, so that you can change the way you think so that you can change the way that you feel, so that you can accidentally act different. That's when your whole life gonna change, man. That's when your whole life gonna change. The politics not gonna change it, the president not gonna change it, the economy not— nobody can change your life but you. I can't change your life, your pastor can't change your life, your therapist can't change— changing your life is going to require you thinking and feeling different. I don't care what form, what modality you use. If you don't learn to think and feel different, it's not gonna work. You can go through religion, if you think different and feel different, it'll work. You can go through talk therapy, if it gets you to think different and feel different, it will work. You can go through life coaching, if it gets you to think different and feel different, it will work. You can go through self-study, deep dive self-development, if it gets you to think different and feel different, it will. All the modalities work, all the religions work, but if it don't get you to think different and feel different, it's not gonna work. It's not gonna work. Step 1 to getting a different life is learning how to control the way you think and control the way you feel. And another tip that I want to give you is work on one thing at a time. If you came to me and said, hey, Coach Jay, I want to lose 100 pounds, I want to be more confident, I want to quit smoking, I want to quit biting my nails, and I don't want to be afraid of flying anymore, I'm gonna say, dope, we can do all of that. Which one do you want to do? First, we can do all of that. None of that is off limits. All of that is easier than you may think. Which one do you want to focus on first? Because if we try to work on all of that in one sitting, you're gonna, um, you're gonna lose a little weight, you're gonna smoke a little less, you're gonna bite your nails a little less, you're gonna be a little bit, a little bit less afraid of flying. But if you want complete breathtaking results in a very short period of time, Concentrate your focus on one area. I hear some people like doing their affirmations. They go, "I am fit. I am lean. I am wealthy. I am healthy." I'm like, "Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Slow down." The purpose of affirmations, the purpose of vision boards, the purpose of scripting and focus wheels and all these different tools is to change the way you feel. But changing the way you feel is going to require you to slow down and put your attention. On these things that you affirm and give your nervous system time to react to this picture you paint. It's like having your your TV remote and you just flipping through channels and you watching like three seconds of everything. Nothing catching my attention. You ain't sat still for long enough for nothing to catch your attention. You ain't sat still long enough for your body to go, "Ooh, this looks." Sit down, work. If you— if— what is your top priority in your life right now? If getting your marriage back on track is priority number one, let everything else take a back seat. Now you're gonna do what you got to do because you always do what you got to do. You, you was doing what you had to do before you even sat down and consciously said, I'm about to work on my marriage. I ain't saying don't go to work. I ain't saying don't pay your bills. But I'm saying for this period of time, all my— if I'm gonna take time and do affirmations, I'm doing affirmations to address my top concern. If I'm gonna take time to do scripting, if I'm gonna take time to do a vision board, um, this vision board is gonna be about my top concern. You're gonna be surprised how quickly you start cleaning stuff up when you start just saying, what's my top priority? Okay, let's put all of my manifesting effort into that. Let's put all of my self-development effort into that. It's kind of like the, that the snowball thing with people fixing their credit, where they take the, the smallest balance And they put— they, they pay— they go ahead and get it knocked out and they pay the minimum payments on everything else. But we doing it in the opposite order. We taking the biggest priority and we finna get this thing paid down and we gonna make the minimum payments on everything else. Man, it makes a— it's a game changer because what you're doing is you, you focus. It's power in focus. I know that you unlimited and you can be, do, and have anything that you desire. I know that, never doubted. I know that you got infinite potential, but your power is not in your potential. Your power is in your focus. I used to own a cleaning company. We used to get these big drums of like these big 10-gallon buckets of cleaner, and this cleaner was so strong that we would mix one cap of it to a gallon of water. That's how strong it was, one cap of it to a gallon of water. Excuse me. Now, we cleaning people's countertops and we cleaning people's floors and things of that nature. We want, we want that one cap to that gallon of water. But But if somebody say, hey man, I got a boat outside and it got some gunky stuff on it, do you got anything that can get it off? I definitely got something that can get it off. But instead of mixing it one cap to a gallon of water, I'm finna get just a little cup of this concentrated cleaner, no water, and I'm gonna put it on there. I'm not gonna scrub, I'm not gonna use no muscle. I'm gonna put it on there, let it sit for about 15 seconds, and I'm gonna wipe it off. That's how it is when you— when you concentrate. That's how it is when you stop deluding your focus. You got this, you got this power, you got this consciousness that can cut through any problem. You got this consciousness that can pull a solution out of thin air. But what you're doing when you're trying to fix everything in your life at one time is you putting 1 cup of consciousness to 16 gallons of water. When you clean that boat, when you try to clean the oven, When you're trying to clean a barbecue grill, you don't want to put that one cap in with that gallon of water. You want to get that concentrated cleaner and put it directly on the problem. And boy, boy, boy, boy, boy, you'll be surprised how quick the problem dissolves. Stop spreading your focus.
