I am so excited to finally have my Light beam sister, Helen Armstrong, here for a little chat about the emotional body and how important emotions are in our overall healing. Helen is an amazing, amazing energy healer, intuitive medium. She works with plants for healing and all kinds of gifts, which she's going to talk about here in a little bit.
And.
And we're going to talk about how. How we can empower you on the emotional front.
So. Yay.
So happy. We've been talking about this for. For probably eight months.
Yes.
@ least since the beginning.
So welcome. Thank you. Thank you so much for having me. I'm excited to be here. Yeah.
So why don't you share a little bit more about your story and how the heck you got into this specialty on emotional healing.
So I grew up in a very traditional British family where it really wasn't appropriate to have emotions. It wasn't appropriate to. Yeah. Emote in general. It was very much of a stop doing, stop crying, sit down, be still, you're too loud, you're too much. And I. I really think I was a bright, vibrant child that slow. Started to shrink and shut myself down and do what was quote, unquote, appropriate. That seems to be the big word we keep using. So I was born in England. We moved to the US Had a very. On a piece of paper, a very normal childhood. But I would also say I was hugely emotional and massive empath and had no idea. So it wasn't until I was about 40 years old that I discovered what an empath actually was. And the light bulb went off. Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. Like, that is who and what I am. So an empath palace, for those of you that don't know, are people that take on and feel other people's emotions. So if you walk into a room and you immediately are like, oh, I feel like I'm going to be sick, or somebody in here is. I feel sad or anxious, anxious, overwhelmed. Oftentimes those are not even our emotions, and we're picking them up from other people or situations. Situations. Yeah. Yep. Yeah. And you can pick them up from the collective consciousness. So right now is a perfect example. We just passed the election, but running up until the election, most of us felt the anxiousness of the anxiety, the anger, the frustration, the different sides were feeling before election day. So I would feel those emotions intensely but not know that they weren't mine. So I think I thought I was either a little bit crazy and I did wind up with some diagnoses. I had an eating disorder at 12. I was anorexic and then that shifted into bulimia with exercise. So I would binge and exercise nonstop. And then that turned into binge eating disorder, all while trying to maintain my composure, be a good girl, go to school, get good grades, go to college, get a job. So I think just a lot of coping mechanisms that served a purpose at a time, but then got out of balance and kind of really made me sick and ill.
So how did you. So you worked in corporate for 27 years?
27 years.
Okay, so. And I worked in corporate for 29. So I know that environment, it's intense, competitive, all the things. How does an empath cope with that? How did you cope with that environment? Because there are a lot of different emotions happening.
Yeah, well, and I think that is exact. The eating disorder would ramp up at different times in my life. I would, there were phases where I was probably a workaholic and just throwing myself wholeheartedly into work and avoiding the other things in my life. Drinking. Right. There were times when I would probably overindulge with alcohol to just numb out and not feel the feeling feelings. And then I went to years of counseling because I. Depression. I was on antidepressants for, gosh, almost 20 years. And my family, what, you know, if I get emotional or get upset, they'd be like, have you taken your pills? Have you taken your pills, Helen? My partner would say the same thing. He would ask, have you taken your pills? Because it wasn't, it wasn't okay for me to have emotions or be emotional just given the environment I grew up in, the people I chose to bring into my life and the place where I worked.
Okay, so at 40, you have this epiphany. Oh my gosh, I'm an empath. Then what, what happened after you had that awareness?
Well, it might have been a bit after 40. So this magical woman came into my life. So I had always been intrigued and interested in alternative things, alternative energy, always. But had always just sort of thought, I don't understand that had been taught, grew up not in a very religious family, but like, that's stuff we don't touch, we don't talk about, don't, don't trust your intuition. We use data and facts, you know, very risk averse. But I Was in a job in California as an HR executive for a tech and ops organization in a bank. And this magical woman showed up, and her name was Jennifer Pearl. And the guy I was working for at the time, I was his HR exec, said, hey, do you remember Jen from a previous company we worked for? He's like, she's doing some weird woo woo thing now. She went to some healing school, but I'm going to get her back. I'm going to get her back into corporate America. And so Jen shows up and we go out to dinner. And I'll let you tell the story what I did when we went out to dinner.
Yeah, Three hours of grilling. You know, it was kind of like, hey, I'm going to take you out to dinner, welcome you into the company.
And I'm like, great.
And first of all, it was like, what is this energy healing stuff? And how does it work? And I don't understand it. And Helen, if one of the unique, special gifts, she has a ton, but one of them is she can find dirt on anybody or anything. She had researched me and she had my whole profile of how I went from corporate into healing. And she knew every. Everything about me and was just firing off question after question after question for three hours. She grilled me. And at the end, I took a breath and I looked her in the eyes and I said, helen, you're a healer, too. And she went, what the heck are you talking about, Jen? I don't think so. And so that began the unraveling, the great unraveling of Helen Armstrong. Of Helen Armstrong. So it was another piece of the puzzle that you really were like, wait a minute. Okay, what is this? And how can that be?
Right? Yeah. And I had always, you know, now looking back, I'd always had good intuition. I was always able to see things about people that they couldn't see about themselves. I was able to. People used to call me the DOT connector at work. I could. Or I knew who everybody was and what they did without having met them. And I used to get accused of being memorizing the organizational charts. And I'm like, no, I'm not. It's just literally, I know I could understand who people were, what their skills were, where they could be best placed in the organization, what they could bring to bear. So now looking back, I'm like, oh, I've had these intuitive gifts and skills. I just didn't know what they were, didn't have a name for them. But Jen introduced me to essential oils, and I took one of the essential oil classes that she was teaching. And, you know, sat in that class, and everybody was like, this amazing meditation. And my great grandmother showed up and handed me an olive tree. And Jen got to me, and I was like, I didn't see anything or nothing.
You're like, I got nothing. Nothing.
Which slowly, over time, as I became able to still my mind and really connect to myself and connect to the plants themselves and to my. I keep pointing at the essential oils behind us, connecting to my inner sense of wisdom and knowledge. They start. Started talking to me and communicating with me and sharing. Not only did an essential oil have the ability to heal physical ailments, but they also had the ability to heal us on an emotional and mental and spiritual level. So I specifically remember one of the first oils that showed up was geranium, because I used to have really bad menstrual cramps. And Jen was like, here, try this one. And then in the class, we had to write a paper, right? So I. I was like, I don't know what to write a paper on. Nothing's coming to me. Everybody in the class is getting these downloads. And all of a sudden, I just heard really quietly in the back of my head, you have to write the paper on geranium. Why wouldn't you write the paper on geranium? And I kind of went, huh? What? Who was that? You know, one, is there somebody in the room with me? Two, am I talking to myself?
Am I making this up?
Yeah. Or three, is that my inner sense of knowledge and wisdom, that when I create the space and the calmness, has the ability to step forward? And that's when I learned geranium is also about self love, you know, a heart warmer. It's aligned to the heart chakra. So it all made perfect sense that that's really what I was lacking in my life at the time, was loving myself, embracing myself, and had really just been shutting myself down to fit in in this corporate environment, in my family environment, and to be appropriate. Yeah, stop there.
Yeah. And, you know, one of our favorite stories in corporate, we were in this big meeting room with probably 25, 30 people in the room, and Helen and I were on the corners of the table. I was on one end, and Helen was around the corner, and there was a young man sitting between us, and he was angry, typing, really angry. Really, like, not paying attention to the meeting at all. No, no. So Helen texts me, and she said, oh, my gosh, I am, like, so frustrated. I'm gonna kill this guy.
And not literally not Literally.
And. And I said, do you have any oils with you? And she said, yeah, I've got lavender. I said, great, get it out. And she texted me, do I pour it on him? I said, no, no, no, just take the top off and put it on the table near him. And she did. And I mean, within 20, 30 seconds.
Yeah.
He looks up, he closes his laptop, he pushes his chair back, and he paid attention for the next 45 minutes.
Oh, yeah, it was amazing. It was amazing.
And that was when Helen said, okay, these work on these other levels. And she saw it.
Yeah.
And you totally. At that point, you were like, I get it.
I'm all.
I'm in.
Yeah, I'm all in. And that is also, I would say, when I became the joke, the sneaky healer. So I was the corporate HR exec that would have a stash of essential oils in my office and put them on cotton balls and go and hide them in other people's offices. So we had one person I. We worked with in particular, who's a bit grumpy, and I would put tangerine on a little cotton wool ball and then go and put it on his bookshelf, behind his books. And shockingly, his mood completely shifted and changed.
Yeah. So that's that emotional level. So let's talk about emotions.
So you.
You had this very shut down, appropriate life. Now you have a different a word.
And that is authenticity. Yeah.
How did you go from being appropriate to really embracing and owning your emotions and now working with people to help them do the same thing?
Yeah. So authenticity has become my word of the year and probably the word of the decade that I have spent most of my life shutting down and conforming. And so I would say the past 10 years has been an ongoing process of unraveling. So working with. Working closely with Jen, we've done lots of meditation, lots of healing retreats, going and getting my own energy healing to kind of clear some of the blockages and emotional traumas from my life. And as all of that unfolded, and I. I mean, I literally would say I have shed layers, and I have shed layers of an old Persona. I have shed layers of weight. I have shed layers of darkness. I would. People literally look at me now and say, I don't look like the same person. I completely look completely different. And that's really about stepping into my power and owning the healing gifts that I have. And ultimately, I left corporate America a couple of years ago to join forces with Jen at our healing center. So Jen is a wizard. Holistic health. And Jen can do energy and health, but she. We joke, I think you were a doctor in a past life, and, you know, you give her a health challenge and she's down a rabbit hole looking at, how does the body work? What. What can we solve? And then, you know, in my past life, probably a psychologist, psychotherapist, and I had to do a lot of that in my professional job. But for me, the big game changer has been learning to understand I'm a hugely emotional person and that my emotions are normal and that I have to ride the wave of the emotions. So instead of stuffing them and shoving them down, which was my coping mechanism growing up, I get to feel them, let them flow, and move on. I also have become a master at asking if they're mine or not. So, you know, literally, as I drive on a lot of times to the healing property where we work, I'll start to feel sick or sad or nauseous, and I have to literally just calm my mind and ask, is this mine? And more often than not, it isn't. And then I just say, okay, thank you for the information. This will be helpful in the healing session we're about to do. But it's not mine, and I don't need to feel it. Yeah.
Yeah. So what are some other ways? So I know you studied emotion code, but you're so much more than emotion code because you bring in your intuition and your healing, and I think that's what makes you so amazing and unique. So, you know, you're not just doing something according to a plan or a book or anything like that. So talk a little bit about how you help others access those emotions and release. Release their emotional trauma.
So I've studied and trained in lots of different modalities and bring them all to bear. So the emotion code is. Is kind of the starting off point, which is all about how do we trap and push down and store emotions in our body. And there's a technique for releasing them. But I've also studied a lot of shamanic practices. Journey journeying, soul retrieval. It class that Jen went to Barbara Brennan School of Healing and studied for four years. I use some of those techniques learning to tap in and follow my guides. I have guides that are very clear on go here, go there. I also use sound healing. So that was kind of a. Yeah, I have a.
A couple of questions. So go ahead, explain what a soul retrieval is. Y.
So a soul retrieval is typically when we have a traumatic event or something happens to us. It could even just be an onslaught of emotions. If something is too overwhelming for us to process in that moment, a piece of us literally fragments off and spins up and out of our body. So it's like, I can't take this, this is too much and I'm out of here. And we've all. It happens to all of us. Some, you know, bigger pieces of us, us leave. And so a soul retrieval is literally tapping into your energy and your energy field to see what happened at a certain event or a certain time. Was there an event that happened and what piece of you left and how do we bring it? A lot of it's kind of inner child work. So how do we bring that piece of you back into your body to create wholeness? Because I mean, we can heal if we're not fully whole, but it's much easier to heal from anything physical, mental or emotional if you are your whole self. So, you know, people that have suffered from abuse, you know, oftentimes we do soul retrieval work with them to let that inner child, you know, the five year old, the six year old know, hey, it's safe, it's safe to come back to your body, it's safe to reintegrate. And oftentimes the client then becomes the parent of that inner child that they never had, the parent that they never had growing up. So it's really just kind of bringing somebody back into creating it's holistic health, like creating the whole.
So it really gives them the foundation so that they can heal.
To heal. Yeah. Yeah. Which is why, you know, in our holistic healing clinic, people come in with physical ailments. But oftentimes we find there's an emotional component or there's a big piece of them that has kind of spun off. And you know, I just think about, when you think about how can you heal if you don't have all of your resources to bring to bear? It's going to be a much harder, arduous journey. Yeah.
And I think, you know, a lot of people will come in and say, well, I don't have any trauma, but trauma doesn't have to be defined in a certain way. So as a two year old, if your mother said, don't do that, let's say you are reaching for a hot stove and your mother's trying to protect you and says, do that. The two year old doesn't have the emotional intelligence or the intellect to say, oh, my mother's trying to protect me. The two year old says, I want something and it's not safe. Right. And that's how the belief System all starts to get constructed. And those are traumas. Those are traumas for the child who comes in, you know, pure and whole, with, I'm amazing. I'm this bright light. And then all of a sudden, the no word starts to shut the child down. So all of those are traumas that you connect with when you're doing the work.
Yeah. And I think so much of the. You know, a lot of times people say, well, I haven't had a significant trauma. And it's really not about the comparison or the judgment of the trauma. You know, people are, I was never abused. I've never had sexual assault. It's really about what is the impact of that trauma at the moment when it happened to you.
Yeah.
So, yeah, like, one of the things we talk about, you know, children of the 70s, so our parents all followed good old Dr. Spock, which was, if your baby's crying, leave them alone and let them cry. So what's the trauma you're feeling as that baby? It's abandonment. I'm crying, I'm hungry, I'm scared. Nobody shows up. I feel abandoned. So I can explain that away as an adult to one blue in the face. Right. My parents were just trying to do what was best for me, or it's not that big of a deal. But it doesn't minimize the trauma, the.
Impact of that trauma, that moment.
Yeah. And how you take that. And the other thing I will add, that we talk a lot about is just the. The energy it takes to stuff trauma and emotion down. So the analogy I always use is a balloon full of air, which is light and airy, but if you're trying to push that down or push it underwater, you're using a ton of energy and a ton of calories to keep that trapped. Right. And then the other thing is you also have a vibe that all of those negative emotions have a vibratory frequency that is buzzing in your body. Right, Right. So, you know, I had somebody come in one day that had been adopted and from China at the age of two. And so she had no memory of it, but the terror, fear, horror were all trapped in her body. And so as an adult, she was very anxious, had terrible gut issues, but would never have attributed it to, you know, she didn't remember anything about the adoption or being left. And what I love about this is we don't have to relive it. You know, she was like, should I go back and research what happened? And I was like, absolutely not. We just want to pull out that energetic frequency that is buzzing and vibrating in you that is attracting more energy with that frequency to you.
Yeah. And I think we're gonna pivot here a little bit into the energetics and how you can do this remotely. But what I hear you say to people is trapped emotions are like fists of energy that block your natural flow of energy. Right. And so when you. When you're blocked like that, the natural flow has to start finding workarounds. Now you're gonna be more tired.
Right.
It's gonna. You're gonna be more fatigued. You might be more anxious because your natural rhythm is gone.
Yeah. You're.
Now you found all these workarounds.
You're not bringing energy and flow to your vital organs. So disease might show up.
Right?
Yeah.
So those become literally over time, if those trapped emotions don't get addressed, they become physical.
Physical y.
Right.
Yeah. And that's what we've seen in our research and the work. And I think you would say with cancer. Right. Typically takes 8 to 10 years to manifest in the body. Right. So that started at some level in our field and has, you know, over the course of time.
Because it didn't get resolved.
Yep. Manifested in a physical issue.
Yeah. And one of the things I love about the emotional work is that, you know, it often takes something physical to get our attention.
Right.
So as you said, this woman who didn't remember anything, but she came in because something kind of physical was going on. Right. And so then you can unravel it and go back. So let's talk about energy. So you can work with people remotely. And you do.
Yeah.
So how the heck does that work?
Well, I mean, enter. We are all energetic beings. So I always start with that. That we are was at 99.99999 energy. And that energy, you know, travels. There's no time space constraint. So I can liter testing initially to kind of tap in and connect to people in a as a surrogate and test to see which emotions are trapped. And then for me, you know, I'm getting direct messages from spirit source guides, and they certainly are not constrained by physical space or time. So, you know, for me, a lot of times the remote healings are just as impactful, if not more impactful than when somebody's physically here in person because we can tap into more. And I think there's an inherent bias.
When you see somebody.
Yes.
Right. Because you can see somebody and you can already a little bit tell what's going on, but when you don't see them and you're working remotely, you don't have that constraint or that bias.
Yeah, yeah. And we can do remote sessions. Like, a lot of times I'll use zoom and then sometimes even go off camera if I'm going to do other energetic work so that they can relax and just. Just receive the energy. And more often than not, people are like, oh, I felt. I felt something. I felt a tingling or I felt a wave of relief wash over me. You know, those kinds of things.
And so you also do sound healing. One of the things that was probably one of my favorite stories of Helen is she said, I all of a sudden am channeling this voice. It's. I don't know where it comes from. Don't ask me to sing anything. And I said, well, you should record it. And the first time I heard it, I had chills all over my body. I started crying. So tell us about that. How did you discover that?
I really attribute that to the unraveling. Like, I. Well, as women, we oftentimes have issues with our throat. It's the throat chakra. So it's all about using our voice, speaking our truth, receiving. Yeah, receiving from others. It's why so many of us have thyroid issues. You know, I. For me, anytime I get sick, my lymph nodes get swollen in my throat and my neck. So this is definitely my kind of source of, hey, you're out of balance. But as I started to stand in my power and use my voice and tap into these gifts, you know, as we're speaking, I do remember being in chorus as a little girl and, you know, belting things out and being all excited to sing, and some people being like, oh, Helen's great. She's got a great voice. And then, you know, one person being like, oh, you shouldn't sing anymore. You should stop. You have a terrible voice. And it was probably some bratty kid on the playground, but I shut down, so I felt uncomfortable and felt like I, oh, I'm not any good at this. I shouldn't do it. It. So literally, it was in an energy healing class that Jen was leading. We had a client on the table, and I was like, oh. Oh, my gosh. It was sort of this rumbling within me of like, oh, I'm supposed to use that, supposed to sing, and I don't know what's going to happen. And it just came out and it. What? I. Jen is spot on. If you asked me to do karaoke or sing a song, it would not be good. But. But it's. It's literally channeled. It's divine. And It. Yeah, it just comes through me and up out of my throat. And what I found is I will use my voice sound bowls and tuning forks to shake up energy where there are blocks, so dissolving blockages and things that are stuck or even things that are attached because they're dark energy can attach. So it's kind of shaking things up and getting it out. And then also using sound and frequency to bring in light. And, you know, we like to use the energy and the different energy centers.
Okay, awesome. So what are three things that you recommend to the audience that they can do to have a better. Better emotional health and to release some of these trapped emotions? Are there things they can do on their own? Do they. Is it better to work with a practitioner? What are some things?
Well, I'll start with the. Working with somebody else because I just had this. The joke we make is that we at least try and shower every day. And so we should also be clearing our energy every day. So I'll talk about a couple of ways that people can clear their own energy. But then sometimes you go to the hairdresser or you want to get a deeper clean or deeper conditioning or a deeper treatment. It may be beneficial to find a professional or somebody who does this for a living who can help you tap into and clear things that maybe you are blind to or don't necessarily see or unaware of or can help get the juices flowing and you using your intuition to be able to clear things. So if you have the opportunity to work with, you know, somebody who uses techniques like the emotion code or energy healing, I would highly recommend it. I think you would agree. Most people that leave the healing set look like different people.
They look 10 years younger. Their eyes are bright. They're, you know, just lighter in general.
Yeah. So if you have the opportunity to do that, great. And then clearing your energy every day. So one of the practices we employ is. Is, you know, at night, literally using the mantra of, you know, I release and send back any energy that I've picked up throughout the day. I release it back to the person that gave it to me, or I release it back to the earth, and you can see, you know, light showering over you or water showering over you. Sometimes I work with little kids and I say, like, take off your backpack. So you have a backpack where you've accumulated other people's, you know, pebbles of other people's emotions, emotions. Take off your backpack and leave that at the door. So whatever, you know, feels right to you, it's the intention of Envisioning that coming off you and then calling your energy back. So a lot of what we do especially is give energy to other people. We do it here at the healing center. We do it with our families. So calling your energy back to you, but we always add. You want to call it that clean and clear. So I do not want the muck and the gunk that, you know, I gave you my energy to hold. Right now you're giving it back with a bunch of gunk on it. I don't want that. I want it clean and clear. So is that. Was that two? That's maybe that's three. Three is, you know, the essential oils and plant stem cells, but they're really good essential oils for clearing and cleansing energy. You know, white sage is probably the one that most people know. Frankincense is great for protection. I use that. That a lot.
Eastern white.
Eastern white cedar we use for kind of clearing off anything that does not serve me and does not belong to me. So those are great ones.
And then what about plant stem cells? What would you recommend for the emotional.
For emotional clear. I mean, I love California Poppy is one I use regularly for just calming my nerves. Calming the mind. Chatter. Passion flower is another one. A great one for connect to your intuition into your emotional self. Lemon tree I love. So I get excited about them. Lemon tree is a great one for just a mood enhancer, like uplifting. If you think about the juicy lemons and how they attract light and vibrancy, Lemon tree is literally bringing that into your body. So that's great if people, if you're depressed, rest, sad, even addiction issues. Lemon tree is phenomenal.
So we are in a time where we're all carrying these backpacks around. I love that analogy. That's a great one of emotional turmoil, all the things. And now's the time to do this emotional work because we've got the energy, got a high, higher vibration on the planet now. So it's easier to remove that backpack and release things. How can people find you?
So we are in person. We are here in Charlotte, North Carolina. I keep saying we because Jen and I do this together. And for those. I keep looking at her, which you wouldn't know if. If you're just listening, but www.dine health alliance.com we're on Instagram, we're on Facebook and we are now on TikTok. We're getting hip and cool and tend to use social media. Yeah. But the best bet is probably the website.
Divine work in person and remote on the website with you.
Yep, yep. And so that we've got the emotion code sessions and energy healing sessions. Probably merging those things together in the coming future, because more often than not, I wind up using multiple techniques with people to just kind of go where the energy flows and what, you know, what we're being called to do in the session. Awesome.
Thank you. Any last words?
Just thank you for one. Jen and I jokingly call each other light beam sisters. We did an astrological reading together and the woman told us we literally came in on the same light beam, which feels super fitting. This woman brings so much joy and vitality and life into my life. So thank you you for coming and finding me in California and waking me up and. Yeah, I just wish everybody emotional health and the ability to know that we all have emotions. Those are normal things and there are ways to clear them from ourselves and that we don't have to carry such a heavy load all the time if we know we have the opportunity to clear them.
And our perfect blueprint is home. And that is really who we are innately. And this beautiful woman, my. My light beam sister is amazing. So check her out. And we will be doing another one because there's a whole nother body of work that this woman does, and it's amazing and unique. So thank you all for listening today. We're grateful for you to be here and we'll see you soon.
Thank you. Bye. Bye.
