Alright, welcome back to bacon wrap business. This is Brad and today's episode is Sponsored by stiletto coffee.com Coffee for Driven Women with exquisite class and a touch of sass. I encourage you to check out stiletto coffee.com if you are a woman and a coffee lover, you'll absolutely love it. And fellas, if you ever decide to buy Stiletto coffee as a present to the woman that you love, whether it's a mother, friend, wife or girlfriend, or even sister, I guarantee you she will never forget the present that you give her. Especially if she loves good coffee. That being said, today's episode is designed to kick you in the ass. And I say that because I just got my ass kicked by something amazing that I listened to. And today's ass kicker du jour is Gary Vaynerchuk. Maybe you've heard of Gary, maybe you haven't. If you've been hiding under a rock and don't know who Gary Vee is, well, he is a business building social media icon who took his family wine business, the Wine Library, and grew it from 3 million to $60 million in just five years. And now he runs VaynerMedia, which is one of the world's hottest digital marketing agencies. And he's also a prolific angel investor venture capitalist and he invests in companies like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Uber, Birchbox before he finally co founded his own $25 million investment fund. Gary is a known outspoken media personality who brings tons of passion to his speeches and often tons of F bombs. So if you don't like F bombs and you don't like tell it like it is, you're probably not going to like Gary. But if you listen closely to what he has to tell, then I think you'll be blown away by the real raw, honest advice that he delivers. And it flies in the face of a lot of the people who I also stand against which are telling you that you can make instant riches without working and everything comes quickly. I know that what you're about to hear in my own business rings true about just doing the work and quit pondering. And pondering is squandering. You'll hear Gary say that in just a moment because Gary recently gave an epic rant on Facebook Live and he brought up some points that I think every single entrepreneur or even wantrepreneur needs to hear very badly. So I'm gonna play that for you right now and then come back. But this is an episode you may want to share, you may want to save, and you may want to listen to over and over again. I know that I'm guilty of some of the things that Gary says in there, and chances are you may be too. So without any further ado, let's bring that up.
First of all, way too many people emailing me saying, Gary, I've been trying to do social media and I'm not getting business results. What's the matter? And then I asked them one question. How long have you been doing it? And people are saying things like a couple months, a year? Guys, if you want the audacity to build a business that you get to keep for your whole life, that is for you forever, that pays your bills and your vacations and makes you real money, it takes time. It takes a lot of time and effort. How do all of you win? You put out content that people want in video, written, audio form, or the best of your ability. You do sales calls, you meet people in real life, you run an organization, you create products that people want to actually buy. You work 14 hours a day. If you've got nothing or if you want work life balance, fine, do you whatever. I'm hedging against all the different hyperbole's but the fact of the matter is, is it takes time. Like fuck man, it takes time to build an actual business. Like I just don't understand. Like four months of putting out a couple Instagram photos doesn't mean you're gonna build a hundred million dollar business. Like I'm just completely taken aback.
To the lack of patience and the lack of understanding that you have to put out stuff that's valuable. Like if your video is, you can put in a thousand videos and a thousand Instagram photos and if they suck and they're not interesting, and if they're not either entertainment and escapism or utility and information or something that is of value, you'll lose. Like I don't understand. You also have to then create a machine that picks up from where your content leaves off and creates a transaction, a business model. Wine, library, tv. I put out that wine content, but it led to business sales when it mattered. You know, my personal content here is it may or May not lead to speaking engagements, book sales, and definitely, you know, to clients for VaynerMedia, but not if I'm bad. Like, there's a million social media experts. I'm in social media marketing world right now. There's 4,000 of them here. Not every one of them is making millions of dollars. Most of them are not. 99% are not. And this, this just insane, just insane. Lack of patience and lack of understanding that takes actual skills to actually win is frustrating at times. And it's why I'm ranting, you know, like, what does a local business need to do to get customers? You need to have a great product. You need to make people that could potentially buy your product know about it. You can do that through content. You can do that through advertising. You can do that by going to the Chamber of commerce. You can do that by fucking cold calling every single business in town. Like, fuck, man.
That. I mean, it's just like, it's super tried and true. Just because there's Periscope or because there's Facebook Live or because there's Facebook ads, that's no different than the Yellow Pages and the Chamber of Commerce and, you know, and local television ads and the newspaper ads. It's all the same stuff. Have a great product and get people to know about it for the best cost possible. The reason I love all this new stuff is there's 4,600 people watching me right now. And. And it doesn't cost me a penny for the distribution. It's cost me lots of pennies in time to get up to the place where I can have this kind of distribution. And then I'm only as good as my last at bat, right? Like, I'm only as good as the content that I put out right now. You're only as good as it. You're only as good as your last at bat. You're only as good as the device I give right now. I can give you advice every day. I can talk about Snapchat, geofilters, But how many of you have made geofilters? You know, if you're a local business geofilter, all the places, all the restaurants, all the malls, you know, if you want to get to the kids, if you want to get to the older people, put out good LinkedIn content or create a little business club. I mean, go old school. Create a business club at a restaurant where you invite 20 people and you just talk about business. Like, there's just so many ways to do it, but one way not to do it is to watch my videos and read Seth Godin's books and ponder and strategize and whiteboard all day and debate with your brother and wonder why, like, lack of action is one way not to do it. Like, fucking pondering is straight up squandering. I always like to make those rhyme, you know, like, the opportunity. Like, one thing I'm doing is I'm constantly in motion. I'm constantly in motion. I'm changing my products. I'm changing my game. I'm changing all the time. I'm redoing my pitch deck for VaynerMedia. I've got different ideas of how to sell it because I wasn't happy that we've lost three out of our last four pitches. Like, you're moving. You're constantly moving. Like, that's how you have to do it. You just can't just think and ponder and read medium and wonder and watch one more book and order 10 more Udemity courses and go to four more fucking conferences. Enough listening. Start doing shit. Don't be scared. And if you're scared, find somebody who's not scared. Make them your partner. Like, it's action. It's going, it's doing, and I mean it. And that rant came from love. I'm coming from my heart, guys. Like.
You know, just go do, like. Like, my biggest goal is I have no fans. That my fans learn from me and get inspired from me and then don't consume me. I don't care how big my subscription numbers are or how many people follow me. I don't want you here. I never want to hit a million subscribers on YouTube. I don't want you here. I don't need it. I don't need that. I need to make an impact. I want the legacy of you coming up to me. Last night at my meetup, the 400 people, 300 people showed up. 40 of them whispered in my ear, you changed my life. That's what I get off on. That's me getting my nut off. Not them still buying my books or buying my courses or being a VaynerMedia client. I want legacy. I've made enough money. I'm good. I'm great. If I don't make a single dollar again, great. I don't need to buy the Jets. I need to try to buy the Jets. That's a distinction. I want legacy. I want you to show up to my funeral because you watched a Facebook live stream when I was in San Diego and I ranted and I finally kicked your ass. Into gear and you realized no more reading, no more consuming time to do. Try to put your fears into action. Great. You go over 70. I love when people don't hire us. I love when people say no. I love when people pick somebody else to give a keynote because they don't think I'm worth the money. And they'll overpay for somebody else who's whack half as good as me. Cause they're scared I might curse once Good fire gets me going. Good pick somebody. Hire Ogilvy instead of Vaynermedia. Good, fires me up. Great. Great. I just want to do. And I want you to do. Because you're gonna regret. The reason I pick on reading books is cause you can only read so much you have to do. I'm an extreme. Maybe I'm different. I don't learn that way. I don't read anything. And that's not right. But is it right to read all of them? Shit. How many fucking books from these experts do you need? Don't ever fucking buy another one of my books. I'm gonna write another one. Two years I'm gonna beg you for. I'm gonna do eight book deals. Don't buy it. Don't buy it. Do not buy it. Be out there and make it. You don't need my book. You got it. It's fucking out there. Go watch fucking episode 31 of AskGaryVee. I'm good. Put out content, put out a great product. Test things. Try it all. Use data. Use your intuition. Test and learn. Test and learn. Test and learn. Fucking learn how to love losing. Learn how to love losing like I do. You know why I'm not scared of testing? Because I don't fear the loss. I don't fear people laughing at me. Fucking laugh at me. Go ahead, laugh at me. Try to laugh at me. Laugh at me with your opinions. Let's talk results. You know who can you laugh at me? People that are beating me. Zucks. You're allowed to laugh, Elon. You're allowed to laugh. Sack a laugh at me. You're loud. If you're not beating me, don't fucking laugh. People are scared. People are scared. People are scared of trying new things. People wanna. People are students. You're students. You're not a fucking entrepreneur. You're a student. You're a student. All you wanna do is read and consume and ponder, make, pretend and talk about how you're gonna fuck. Your gonna go do it, do shit, learn. Put in the work. Don't fucking have dinner at 7 o' clock and drink two beers and have the fuckin Spurs Golden State game in the background with your two buddies and tell each other how you're gonna do it while you're fucking sitting there how you're gonna do it and dappin'. I haven't seen fuckin Steph Curry hit a basket this year. Don't tell me how you're gonna do it. Keep asking me and then keep telling your buddies how you're gonna do it. Do it.
Fuck. That's a good year's worth of pent up anger. I'm not trying to be tough or angry or rant. I just want it for you guys.
All right, so what do you think? Did Gary overstep his bounds? Did he or did he preach? Did he give you some gospel there? I know he did me and I know that I need to hear this stuff just as much as anybody. And you know I'm on a relentless pursuit to do more in my life and to also leave a legacy. And it can be hard at times, especially if you don't know exactly what to do that he's talking about. But don't get caught in those traps. And in fact, maybe I can help you, but I can't help you unless you ask me. And there's two ways you can do that. You can go to baconrapbusiness.com help and that's simply where you tell me a little bit about what you're working on and what obstacles you're facing and what you are looking to do. And if I have an answer for you, a resource, a plan, a blueprint, or anything like that, I will share it with you. If you want to, simply email me, send that email to askbradaconrappbusiness.com and let me know. Be as specific as possible, otherwise I can't help you. But if you've enjoyed the show, share it, talk about it, leave a review on itunes and let me know what you think. Until next time, thanks for listening to Bacon Wrap Business myself and of course, a little bit of Gary Vee. You can check out the links to more of Gary's stuff in the show notes. So over and out on this very short episode of Bacon Wrap Business.
