A sales coach explains why "How are you doing today?" backfires with prospects. The scripted greeting signals a sales call immediately, putting people on guard and triggering objections before you've said anything real.

Could that question like, how are you doing today? Would that be maybe a common question that most prospects are used to being asked by any salesperson selling anything? Hey, it's XYZ with XYZ company. How are you doing today? When a salesperson asks you, how are you doing today? Do you get like, oh my gosh, they're really genuinely interested in how my day is or what goes on your mind when they say that? It's just a scripted line that they said everyone that maybe they're trying to build rapport. And look, it's not like you're doing anything wrong. Like we're all taught, you got to be polite to strangers. Be friendly, be nice. Be friendly, be nice. Lots of energy. Yeah. Just when we ask questions that are predictable, typically the average prospect recognizes the pattern, right? Their guard goes up as a defensive reaction. They throw out a what? An objection. Does that make sense? It does.
