Chicago Fox32 How You Leave Them Feeling Interview

Jesse and Lisa Ferrell discuss their relationship book "How You Leave Them Feeling," which grew from a coaching insight 17 years ago. They share a listening game called "dialogue" where couples tell stories to reveal new details about each other, and explain "mirror economics," a practice of checking your attitude in the mirror to improve strained relationships.

Whether you've been with your boothing for decades or you just started seriously dating, it's important to think about how you're making them feel when you're not with them. Your words, your actions can leave a lasting impact on your future with them. The authors of how you leave them feeling, Lisa and Jesse Ferro are joining us now to talk more about this and share some secrets for us as well. Don't want to assume. Are you both partnered? Married?
All of the above.
How many years together?
Lisa tells the best 17.
Wow. Okay. Why did you both choose to write this book, folks that go on relationships and explain the title as well, how you leave them feeling.
Well, how you leave the feeling was actually it came out because we were in coaching session with a high level client and he was not doing so well with leaving one of his key vice presidents feeling well. And, and at the end of that, I said, well, at the end of the day, if you really want to create an impact, it's how you leave them feeling. I thought, well, I need to get him that book. Well, the book wasn't out there. So we decided, I decided to write that one. That one was actually 17 years ago. And then fast forward to today. Lisa and I realized so many couples were having so many challenges with the whole Covid situation, how to get along with one another. They weren't used to being spending so much time with one another. And Lisa and I had more than a few secrets that we thought our relationship is extraordinary. How can we help others with some of the key things that we've done? So we wrote the book in order to help people be better in all relationships. That's why it's your foundation for inspiring love and relationships.
I love that. Lisa, did you to learn anything new about each other when you were working on this book?
You know what, that's a really great question to yes, there is a chapter in the book that talks about our relationship sweet series which there's a game that Jesse made up. It's called dialogue and dialogue is listening to a song, telling a story and sharing with each other things that we never would have even ever learned about one another. So we highly recommend that you check out that game so that you too can keep elevating your relationships.
I love that. What are your best tips for improving a relationship that may be broken? It's a bit late for me, but maybe you can help some other people.
You should have called us earlier. Really funny. So the first thing is number one and you'll dig this to first check your attitude, period. First, check your attitude. Look in the mirror. We call it actually mirror economics. Look in the mirror, look at that reflection and tell the truth about what you're seeing. And then you can do something about it. What are your thoughts about that?
Come on through. I love that one. That is absolutely. Yeah, I'm getting too personal now because that's exactly what did it do for me. What a pleasure speaking with you both this morning. I look forward to reading the book, how you leave them feeling. Well, you both left me feeling fantastic, awesome, Great.
