A speaker ran two identical webinars on social media growth: free drew 30 people, but charging $100 for the same content pulled 54. He argues people value what costs money because they're motivated by self-interest, not gratitude.

I ran a webinar on growth in social media. 30 people showed up free. And I'm thinking this sucks. You know, you pump yourself up for a webinar, you and your Tony Robbins shit, and then nobody shows up and you're like, damn, am I, am I, am I a loser? But I ran another one, which was about same thing, but I charged $100 for it. And the name was, instead of growth, it was hear me out, likes and cash. So I called it that, charged $100 for it. 54 people showed up. More people showed up after I charged for stuff. It's because people value stuff when you charge for it. This is like, I think that giving away just free stuff is a flawed goal because it assumes that people act out of gratitude, which very few people do. But if you charge for it and you make it like you're gonna get something out of this, It assumes that people act out of self-interest, which everybody does.
