Sending the same generic message to hundreds of prospects barely works. Instead, research each person's recent tweets and LinkedIn bio, then send a personalized note with a case study from their industry. Specificity gets responses. Shotgun spam doesn't.
Chapters
When people send out messages, especially cold DMs, they will aim for the shotgun approach instead of the sniper approach. Shotgun approach is when you send the same message to everybody and then you expect them to respond. Some people do, and they know it's a cold DM and they don't react positively to it. In that case, you switch your approach and instead of going shotgun, you go sniper. You make a really personalized message, but it's not so much about personalization. It's about relevance. It's showing people why it's relevant to them. Maybe you have a case study showing how somebody in their same industry succeeded with you. When you show them that relevance, that makes them go, oh my gosh, that's me. They see people in their same situation now doing better than them, so that like makes them uncomfortable. So very important, introduce some relevance in your messages. That means you have to go over a few tweets, you have to go over their LinkedIn bio, whatever it takes, because the sniper approach, I believe, will make you more money than a shotgun approach.
