If you're already successful elsewhere, you'll build a following fast because Twitter connects you with influential people and judges you on competence. That makes it brutal to your reputation but fair in how it works.
The key to YouTube is being good, but I feel personally that the key to Twitter is being someone. This is why you see that when a successful person, for example, starts on Instagram, it takes a while. Whereas if a successful person starts on Twitter, it's like this. Few months, you're already at really big following. It's because I feel like on Twitter, it's like who you are. People want to network with other whales. They don't look so much at follower count or who you know. It's who you are. Like, you are judged based on competence. And that meritocracy is one of the things that makes Twitter brutal but fair.
