Joe Apfelbaum discovered that meditation isn't about stopping thoughts, but noticing what's around you right now: your body, sounds, tastes. He calls it giving your mind a bath. He recommends Headspace and ten minutes a day for ten days to feel fully present.

Good morning. I want to tell you about a piece of technology that I recently found that has helped me become more aware. I always thought that meditating was about not thinking, about stopping your thoughts, about focusing on one thing and only that one thing and stilling your mind by doing that. And I downloaded an app called Headspace, and it's taught me that Meditating is not about just stopping your thoughts, but it's about being present to your body, to your surroundings, to the sounds, to the tastes of life. It's about allowing your thoughts just to be and focusing on the things that you want to focus on and just relaxing and just sitting on the side of the road instead of chasing your thoughts. So I recommend every single person take a moment, download the app Headspace, and take 10 minutes of your day for the next 10 days and learn how it feels to really be present and really be alive. Because I know that before I started doing that, I thought I was alive, I thought I felt good, but let me tell you, giving your mind a bath is a powerful, powerful thing.
