Joe Apfelbaum shows how to use LinkedIn Sales Navigator's 34 search filters to find qualified leads and scale outreach across multiple accounts. He breaks down the math: 200 messages per week at a 5% reply rate yields 520 conversations yearly, with 20% converting to sales. The strategy costs roughly $20k annually but can generate $100k-plus in revenue.

So if you're wondering how I get leads on using Sales Navigator, for example, over here I sent this message. Do you want more comments? I noticed your post and I'm wondering if you wanted a strategy to get more engagement. And he says, yeah, thanks for reaching out. Um, my ultimate goal is marketing solutions. LinkedIn is just one possible vehicle. So if you do lots of marketing, I'd love to hear about it. And I said, yes, I have had, uh, um, I have a marketing business for over 17 years. And while my focus is LinkedIn, because my peers spend the most time on it. I can definitely speak to all platforms and strategies. Would you be open to a call this week? And he says yes. So I don't know if it's important for you to get conversations with people, but I know that when I get conversations with people, it leads to conversions. So how did I go about doing this, and how many messages do I need to send out to book a conversation? Let's dig into it. In Sales Navigator, there's a lot of filters that you can select. So for example, there's company headcount. In this case, I chose 2 200 to 500 employees. Then there's title, in this case I chose CEO. Then there's geography, in this case I chose United States. Connection degree, second-degree connection, posted on LinkedIn. And there are 34 different search filters that you can use depending on who your target market is and what you're specifically trying to accomplish on LinkedIn. So, if I remove each one of these, for example, didn't post on LinkedIn, it goes from 98 all the way up to say, Um, 372. So would I rather target people that posted on LinkedIn or people that didn't post on LinkedIn? If I take off second-degree connections, it goes way down to 890 people. Um, if I take off the industry, the insurance industry, now it goes up to 83,000 because most people don't even put their industry in, in LinkedIn. So if you choose industry, you're really limiting yourself, but At the same time, it's a way to be able to see what industry you're targeting. There's United States. I take off United States, now I'm at 230,000 people. I take off CEO and now I'm at 45 million people. And if I take off company headcount, basically I'm at 1.2 billion people, which doesn't show, but that's the idea. I'm just targeting people that have mutual connections with me. Then I have access to what, 15 million people. So these are the people that I'm really going to focus on, the people that I have mutual connections with because there's some mutual trust there already. But I can send messages to anyone on LinkedIn using Sales Navigator. And typically you can only send 50 messages per month. That's 600 messages a year. But I have a strategy that allows me to be able to send about 200 messages every single week. And these are InMails that also go as emails. So LinkedIn will send an email to somebody with a subject line and a body of a message on your behalf, and they will do this up to 10,000 times per year. That's the limit, and that's per account. So if you have multiple accounts, you can do this on multiple accounts, and it's guaranteed to get to their inbox because LinkedIn has really, really good really good ability to rank inside an inbox. This is an InMail, and it also shows up as a notification on their phone, and it also shows up in their messaging, their regular LinkedIn inbox. So if you go to LinkedIn organic, these are my stats for my posts. But if I go into LinkedIn organic over here, this is how it will show up. If I click on InMail, so for example, this guy Justin T, He wants me on his podcast. So this is— so he sent me an InMail here. I'm not connected to him. And it showed a podcast issue. And I got this as an email. I opened it up and I said, no problem. And he's like, yeah, I'd love to get you on my podcast. So you see, this is an inbound InMail that I got from Justin and he's not connected. So this is what it would look like on the other side on LinkedIn. But via email, it would just come up as like an email that you could open up and you can actually reply to it directly from your inbox through really powerful. And so I don't know if it matters to you, but if you have leads that you want to target and you're trying to get more conversations with your target market, my recommendation is try to figure out a way, if you have Sales Navigator, send out the max, which is 10,000 a year. But even like sending out like 10 messages a day, if you're in sales or you're in business development, or send 20 messages a day. If you do that successfully every single day over the course of a year, you would have sent out thousands of messages to people and you're going to get a response rate. Even if your response rate is less than 10%, even less than 10%, let's just say 5%. 5% of the people that you message respond to you. So if you send out 100 messages, 5 people respond. Let's say half say no and half say yes. Let's say 60% say no and 20% say yes. So for every 100 messages, you're getting 2 yeses, 2 people that are interested. And you targeted them very, very specifically based on who they are. You didn't just randomly target people. You said these are people that are mutual connections. They are part of a certain size company. They're not a little tiny company. They're, let's say they have 200 to 500 employees. So they're not a tiny company. And let's say the job title is, in your case, it might be facilities. Facilities manager. And now you break it down. You're like, okay, 200 to 500 people, facilities manager. I got 462 facilities managers I could message that are second-degree connections. Now you might say, okay, well, I only want them in North America. Okay, you still have 372 in North America that you can target. You're like, well, facilities managers don't use LinkedIn. Well, they do use LinkedIn because these are the ones, that are second-degree connections of mine and I can get an intro. But if I didn't want second-degree connections, I have 7,500. That's ridiculous in North America that are 200 to 500 headcount companies. You want to take off the headcount and you want to see how many in North America are facilities managers? 73,000. It would take you like 7.5 years by using the max outreach to be able to reach out to all these people. Unless you use multiple accounts. So if you're not doing this right now, if you're not leveraging this technology and learning how to, how to use this technology, you're really missing out. So what I want to know is, who's your target market? What if I can build you a list? What if I can hand you a list of people that you can just reach out to so that you don't have to sit there and do all this research? What if I had an agent that can just research for you? Would that be valuable to you if you could just get, okay, we'll make a list of 100 people for you that you can reach out to just for the month. Just focus on, or maybe even 100's too much. Maybe you say, okay, you know what, send me 5 leads a day and I'll do my work. I'll spend a few minutes each day looking at the leads and then emailing them if they're appropriate. And what I would want from you is don't tell me, oh, I want people who need my services. That's not called a— No. a prospect from Sales Navigator. It's not going to work that way. That you would need to advertise, um, to be able to do that, to get someone that raises their hand that says, hey, I'm interested in your product or services. And that can sometimes cost $100 a lead. Sometimes that can cost $10,000 a lead depending on the competition and the value of that lead. But over here, over here, these people that we want to reach out to, this, it's $100 a month for Sales Navigator. And then whatever it costs for a human being or a machine to go and help you with this. So I would recommend if you want to send out 10,000 messages a year, and let's say it costs you $2 per message, that's $20,000 per year that you're investing in this approach. But then you need someone to do the follow-up and to call the person and to build a relationship with them. So if you sent out let's just say 10,000 messages and you got a 10% response rate, that's 1,000 people replying. That's crazy. I don't expect you to get a 10% response rate, but even if you got 500 people to reply over the course of the year and 60% of them said, absolutely not, I'm not interested in talking to you, but 200 people said they are, how would that change your business if 200 people raised their hand? You still have to follow up with those 200 How would it change your business if 200 people raised their hand and said, I want to do business with you. I'm interested in learning more, based on the message that you send them, and you were able to get on 200 more calls a year as a result of doing this activity? Would that change your business if you can do that? Now, I get people that basically say, oh, you know, I sent this guy this message at 4 AM. And he responded at 9 AM and he said, great, thank you. Based on what I'm seeing, I'm getting more engagement than you. So I did a little bit of an analysis on his profile and I said, thank you for sharing. And then I said, here's a post. And I looked and I saw he never got 5,000 likes on a post. And here's a post that I showed him. If I want to go viral, I can go viral. Here, here, I got 5,000 likes on this post, 200 comments and 400 reposts. Posts. And I saw the max that he did was a few hundred. So I was like, you want to compare like what I, what I can do? But this is not my goal. I said, my goal is not to go viral. My goal is, is a post like this that gets me $100,000 in profit. And I showed him this one here, which is a completely different post. I said, this post produced $100,000 in profit for me. I didn't need to go viral. I don't want to go viral. I want the right 1,000 people to see me 1,000 times a year, not just to go viral for the sake of going viral. I said, happy to have a conversation with you, open for a quick call. And so if you want more of this, if you want me to help you build a list, I'm happy to, to share best practices and help you be able to do this. Just let me know. All right, thanks for listening.
