One of my clients asked me a question. He said, how do you set up a newsletter? And I said, what do you want to write a newsletter about? And she's like, I don't know, how do I set up a newsletter? And I said, it's not so much about setting it up. I'll show you the technical way to set it up, but first you have to think about what it is that you want to write a newsletter about. Let's listen to some music about this, and I'm going to show you how to do it.
Hey, hey, hey, hey. It's your LinkedIn daddy, Joe Apfelbaum, in the feed. 2020, see synergy, let's go! Yeah, uh-huh, uh-huh, yeah. Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up, log in, that's my lobby timeline looking like a packed up party. Newsletter dropping like a Monday bomb, everybody hit follow when they feel this calm. I'm the CEO, that strategist, turn cold contacts to a client list. I train your team, give you playbook lifts, turn shots, grow lurkers to a power shift. I'm the LinkedIn Daddy, say my name.
All right, so this is how you do it. If you want to create a LinkedIn newsletter, you go to linkedin.com/article/newsletter/new. Or what you can do is go to linkedin.com/article/new And on the top right corner, click manage, and then scroll down to where it says create a newsletter. I have the AI Automation by Joe Apfelbaum, and I have Frustration by Motivation. So I want to create a new newsletter. I can create up to 5 newsletters. I'm going to create one called High Energy Prompts after my book that's coming out soon. And I want to be able to just teach about prompts. And the best way for me to teach about prompts is to create a newsletter. And so I'm going to create a newsletter for the new year. And my goal is going to be to put out 12 amazing articles about prompts and be able to share this beautiful creation with the world. I'm going to create a monthly newsletter about prompts, um, from newsletter 1 to 12. And we're going to have 12 really, really good episodes of this newsletter. And we'll see where it goes. If I have 1,000 people subscribed to the newsletter, every time I send the newsletter, 1,000 people get it. That's a powerful thing. The recommended image should be 300 by 300 pixels. Okay, so your connections and followers will be invited to subscribe. We'll notify your network when you publish your first edition of your newsletter and invite new followers to subscribe. You will be subscribed to your own newsletter. We'll send you a copy of notification and email that we send the subscribers. Your newsletter will be featured on your profile. Go-getters, we don't guess. We map it, write it, see it, live it, then we trap it.
Okay, I have an idea. I just thought of this idea that just came to me right now, and I gotta talk to Grok about it. So let's, let's have a conversation with Grok now. I'm just gonna go here. Okay. So what I want to do is I want to do something fantastic. I want to come up with some type of goal setting for content creation with LinkedIn. For example, I want to come up with 100 LinkedIn Lives. I want to write a poll every month and I want to make sure that I write, I create a new LinkedIn article And I, not just a LinkedIn article, but a whole LinkedIn newsletter. And I have 12 episodes of my LinkedIn newsletter. I want to have a really good content strategy. Can you help me think about, um, the different types of things that I'm going to be sharing on LinkedIn and help me create a full-on content strategy?
Right. Let's craft a solid content strategy for your LinkedIn goals. To hit 100 LinkedIn Lives, 1 poll monthly, 12 newsletter episodes, and regular articles, start by defining your niche.
Wait, hang on a second. Wait, hang on a second. I don't want to do a poll monthly because a poll expires after a week, or maybe a poll expires after, I would say, 2 weeks max. So maybe we should do 1 poll every 2 weeks. Maybe we should do 25 polls or something. What do you think?
Yeah, you're spot on. LinkedIn polls don't last long, usually a week or 2 tops. Switching to one poll every 2 weeks sounds smart, maybe aiming for 25 polls a year to keep it manageable. That way, you get fresh engagement without chasing outdated polls. Let's weave that into your strategy: lives for weekly real-time chats, biweekly articles and polls to spark quick feedback, and one newsletter a month for deeper value. Maybe polls on hot topics like, what's your top sales hurdle or best tool for productivity? Something tied to your niche. What's your main focus on LinkedIn? Sales, marketing, or something else?
I think my main focus on LinkedIn is going to be relationship building and networking. That'll be my main thing. I want to be able to go deep with a variety of people. And I think that if I do that, if I build relationships, on LinkedIn, that's where I'm going to get the most bang for my buck.
Right. Focusing on relationships and networking makes perfect sense. LinkedIn's built for that. Let's tailor your content around building trust and connection. For your lives, maybe host themed discussions every week, like Coffee with CEOs or Hidden Gems of Networking, inviting guests to share their stories. 25 polls every 2 weeks could be fun. Do you prefer cold DMs or warm intros?
I don't want 25 polls every 2 weeks. I want 25 polls all year. That means every 2 weeks a poll.
Ah, got it. 25 polls over the year, one every 2 weeks. Perfect pace for steady engagement.
So what I want to think about, I want to think about like a framework that I can create for people to like write down their content goals for 2026. What would go into the framework?
Start with a clear vision. What do you want from your LinkedIn content? Relationship building, like you're aiming for. Then list specific goals. Say 100 lives, 25 polls yearly, 12 newsletters. Break them down monthly, about 8 lives per month, 1 poll biweekly, 1 newsletter. Add metrics, track views, comments, new connections. Next, brainstorm themes around your focus, like networking tips or guest stories. Slot 'em into a calendar. Maybe use a simple spreadsheet with dates, topics, and post types. End with reflection prompts. What worked? What to tweak? That keeps it actionable for folks planning 2026.
Okay, so you're saying step number 1 is come up with your vision for LinkedIn. Decide how many posts you're gonna do in the year, decide how many, focus on themes, and then dates, topics, and post types. Is that what you're saying for the whole year? Maybe we should, maybe we should plan out the next 90 days instead.
No, that framework works great for either a full year or 90 days. It's flexible. For the next quarter, start with your vision. Deepen relationships on LinkedIn. Set goals, say 25 lives, 6 polls, 3 newsletters, some articles. Break monthly, 8 to polls, 1 newsletter.
But I wanna create some type of framework that people can fill out, something that I can turn into like this useful HTML file that people can kind of like check off the type of posts they wanna create. And, you know, so for example, we have image posts, Let's keep— we have, uh, image posts, we have video posts, we have reels, short, short video reels.
Right, so let's create a quick checklist framework they can copy into an HTML file or Google Sheet. Sections go like this: 1, your vision in one line. 2, pick your numbers— how many lives, polls, Reels, image posts, articles, newsletters you want in 90 days. 3. Brainstorm themes like networking wins or warm intros. 4. Post types checklist. Tick image posts for quick tips, video posts for stories, reels for fun hooks, lives for chats, polls for questions, articles for depth. 5. Calendar grid with dates. Slot in topics like Top networking fails for a reel on Monday. Add a done column to mark off. Keeps everyone organized. Want me to spit out a sample HTML snippet?
No, I'm not really sure about what you said. So what I'm hearing you saying, sections like your vision on one line, then pick 2 numbers, how many lives, polls, reels, image posts, newsletters you want. Brainstorm themes like networking wins or warm intros. Take, you know, like I'm, it's not, it's not speaking to me. I'm really not excited about that. I do like the idea of themes. I want it, I want something related to content pillars. So vision for LinkedIn, content pillars. I like that. Can you help me think that through?
Okay.
Let's pivot to content pillars. That's sharper for staying consistent. First, your vision. Say, build meaningful connections on LinkedIn. Then nail 3 to 5 pillars, core themes like authenticity in networking, value-first outreach, storytelling for bonds, community building, personal growth from connections. Each pillar guides what you post. Reels on quick tips under value-first, lives on deep chats in community, articles for stories in storytelling. Slot 'em across 90 days, rotate weekly so every pillar gets airtime. Makes planning feel themed and fun, right?
If somebody wants to come up with their content pillars, what are the questions that you would ask them in order for them to determine their content pillars?
First off, what's the one big thing you want to achieve on LinkedIn? Like stronger networks. What's your niche or what do you help people with? Who are you chatting to? Busy execs, startups, creatives? What stories or tips excite you to share? If you had to pick 3 words that sum up your vibe, what'd they be? Think about pains your audience has. How can you solve them? And finally, what makes you different from the crowd? Those answers shape solid pillars.
Okay, so I like the question is, what's the one big thing you want to achieve on LinkedIn? Um, what are the 3 words that sums up your vibe? What makes you different from the crowd? And what, what I can also say is, who is your target audience?
Exactly. So if you were going to build this framework for 2026, your first 3 or 4 questions would be: 1, what do you really want out of LinkedIn? Like, build trust, get referrals. 2, name your target audience. Say founders, sales pros. 3 words that describe your voice. Maybe bold, genuine, straightforward. And 4, what's your unfair advantage? Like, why should someone listen to you? From there, those 4 answers bleed into 5 content pillars. People then just look at that and go, ah, got it. Now I know what to say.
Uh, what's another way to say what makes you different from the crowd and what, what is your, what is your unfair advantage and why should people listen to you? Like, what, what is another way to say that sentence?
What sets you apart? What's the secret sauce only you bring?
What is the secret sauce that only you bring? What goes into that answer? Like, what do you, what do you typically put into what is the secret sauce that only you bring?
Your unique experiences, opinions, and skills that no one else can copy. Could be a decade of closing deals. Your super knack for reading rooms, the way you mix humor with wisdom, or maybe you've done something nobody else in your space has, like built a business from scratch at 19. Whatever's truly yours, the thing that lights you up when you talk.
So, love the passions. So, unique experience, opinions, skills, passion, interests.
Yeah, that's it. Unique experiences, strong opinions, rare skills, deep passions, quirky interests. Throw in what you're obsessed with talking about, even if nobody asks. That combination, that's your source. No one else has lived your life. No one else thinks exactly how you think. And when you put that on LinkedIn, people feel it. That's how you stand out.
So unique experience, opinions, skills, passions, interests, and I would say like obsessions. Obsessions is a good word. Absolutely.
Obsessions, because that's what gets people hooked. You're not just sharing content, you're feeding a fire inside you, and people can sense that.
Okay, so what's the big thing that you wanna achieve on LinkedIn? What are some examples of the big thing you wanna achieve on LinkedIn so people can kind of think about that?
Like build a network that lands you clients without selling. Or position yourself as the go-to person in your space. Maybe make connections so warm that strangers become partners, or start real conversations that lead to JV deals. Or maybe just grow from 0 to 10,000 followers who actually know who you are. Think loud. Big selfish wins.
Okay. So let's think about the different types of big things that people could get from LinkedIn. So they could build a network that lands you clients. You could make connections warm and stay top of mind.
So number one, thought leadership, positioning.
Thought leadership.
Thought leadership.
Yeah.
You want to be that person who, when someone has a question about networking, they go, oh, Joe knows. It's not about bragging about what you've done. It's about being the first person that comes to mind. And the way to do it is you break down complex ideas, give real examples.
Okay, so thought leadership, position yourselves as an authority on topic. What's the second thing? What should we do? The second thing, networking connector, or, or maybe network builder?
Yeah. Networking connector feels warmer, like you're the hub where people meet and things happen. Network builder is active, but a bit cold. Connector implies warmth, relationships.
Okay. So, so thought leadership, networking connector. What's another big goal that you could have? Uh, JV, uh, partnership, partnership, uh, deal maker.
Partnership curator. Not dealmaker. That sounds transactional. Curator makes it feel like you're handpicking the right people, the right brands, the right missions. Like, you're not just swapping business cards; you're forging alliances that last.
And it's easier to— What about, what about, what would you call someone who wants to make connections warm and stay top of mind?
Stay top of mind. That's the one goal that's overlooked. People say, you know, I want to get new leads.
But what would you call it? Like thought leadership, networking partner, partnership curator? What would, what would stay top of mind be called?
Brand magnet or relationship retainer or top of head. But if we want to keep the theme, let's call it memory anchor. You're not just there, you're unforgettable.
You're the—
I like, I like the word relationship. Give me a second word next to relationship that makes sense. Like partnership curator, relationship what? Networking connector, relationship what? Thought leadership, relationship what?
Relationship whisperer makes it.
I don't want to. I don't want it to be so fancy. I want it to be like something like connector, curator, leader, something. Relationship anchor, relationship anchor and magnet sound too kichi.
Relationship builder, plain and simple.
Okay. Builder. Okay. That's good. Relationship builder, make connections warm and stay top of mind. So we have 4 different types of examples. We have thought leadership, position yourself as an authority, networking connector, build a network that lands you clients, partnership curator, create JV partners with the COIs, and relationship builder, make connections warm and stay top of mind. Those are the 4. Yes.
Short, crisp, and powerful. Thought leadership, authority. Networking connector, opportunities. Partnership curator, alliances. Relationship builder, warmth. Let 'em pick one or pick 2 if they're greedy, but 4's enough. You don't need to be everything on LinkedIn. Just be one thing really well and the right people will find you.
Is there one more idea for a big goal for LinkedIn other than thought leadership, networking connector, partnership curator, relationship builder? Is it, could it be like Opportunity Finder?
Yeah, Opportunity Finder could work. Spot on, actually. Because not everything's about being warm or being an expert. Sometimes you just want results. You want opportunities to land in your lap. Like, you're the person who sees the job before it goes public, who spots the beta test before anyone else, who knows which investor just opened up. Opportunity Finder.
It's like for someone looking for a job, someone looking for a new opportunity, someone like whatever. So it can cover a lot of things, the Opportunity Finder. Opportunity Finder. So there's the Thought Leadership, someone who wants exposure. Um, position yourself as a thought leader on a topic and get exposure. Networking Connector is build a network that lands you clients and get credibility. Partnership Curator, create JV partnerships, COIs, and get connected and get, um, Thought leadership, exposure. Yeah, thought leadership. Yeah, networking connectors, credibility. What is partnership curator?
Partnership curator. It's about alliances. So you go on LinkedIn, but you're not just there to talk. You're there to stitch lives and brands together.
Okay, and develop alliances. I like that. And the relationship builder is what?
Relationship builder. It's about staying there. It's about being the person who still gets a Christmas DM. It's about being the one who pops up in memory when no one's watching. You're not adding numbers, you're adding depth. Make people feel like you're part of their life.
Okay, but what's the word? If relationship— if partnership curator creates, develops alliances and networking connectors creates credibility and thought leadership gets you exposure, what does relationship builder and opportunity finder get you?
Relationship Builder gets you loyalty, and Opportunity Finder gets you leverage.
So, produce loyalty.
Exactly. Loyalty doesn't come from sales. It comes from, hey, Joe helped me, no one else did, or Joe gets it, he's not just saying things. When people feel safe, when they feel seen, when they remember you weren't pushing.
Okay, so there's exposure, credibility, alliances, loyalty, and leverage. Those are the 5?
Yes. 5 clean wins.
Okay, so what 3 words sums up your voice and vibe? What are some examples of that?
Like helpful, blunt, warm, or Funny, fierce, factual, maybe real, raw, relentless. It's how you want people to feel when they meet you.
How are you categorizing that?
I'm not really categorizing. Those are just examples.
No, but you are.
You kind of are. Helpful is one type of thing, like what you do for people. Blunt is how you show up, and warm is the temperature of your voice. You are kind of, you know, like there's, there's like a framework here. What's the framework for the 3 words? What are the categories? And then we can select multiple things within the categories.
Okay. Think temperature first. Warm, cool, sharp, soft. That's one. Then power. Bold, gentle, assertive, quiet. Then flavor. Funny, dry, Inspirational, practical. So you take one from temperature, one from power, one from flavor.
If I was going to add 3 more, what would the other 3 categories be? Temp, power, flavor. What would the other 3 be?
Next, depth. Deep, surface, poetic, simple. Then speed. Fast, slow, punchy, drawn out. And finally, emotion. Hopeful, cynical, excited, calm. Pick one each.
Is there, is there 3 more that you can give me just for the sake of just going all out?
Sure. Rhythm. Rhythmic, choppy, flowing, abrupt. Texture. Smooth, gritty, silky, rough. And cadence. Melodic, staccato, even, rolling. Use them if you're—
Give me one more.
Luminosity.
Nah, not luminosity. Give me something. Give me something that's like temperature, power, flavor, depth, speed, emotion, rhythm, texture, cadence. Give me one more that's for a voice, for a vibe. Must have. Think about it for a minute and give me something good.
Presence, either commanding, subtle, Magnetic or quiet. It's whether they—
I like it. I like it. I like it. This is good. So we have temperature, power, flavor, depth, speed, emotion, rhythm, texture, cadence, and presence. Ooh, we're getting somewhere.
Yeah. 11 categories. But most people just need the first 3: temperature, power, flavor. The rest? Well, that's when you're really trying to stand out.
Why is temperature, power, flavor more important than depth, speed, emotion, rhythm, texture, cadence, and presence?
Because they hit first. Temperature tells them if they should lean in or back off. Power tells them if you're a friend or a boss. Flavor tells them if it's gonna taste good. All the rest— depth, speed, rhythm— they only land after that. You can't hear poetry if you're still deciding whether this person's warm enough to waste time on. So keep the first trio, sprinkle the others only if you're already on stage.
I like that. I like that. That's good. All right. Thank you very much. Listen to— I'm going to listen to some music now. Let's listen to some music, ladies and gentlemen. Let's go.
Turn shots, grow lurkers to a power shift. I'm the LinkedIn Daddy, say my name, say Joe. Every single scroll, feel the change, let's go. So this guy here, I messaged him. I said, I'm going to an AI bot summit in Orlando, January 5th, 6th, and 7th with 300 other business owners. It should be fun. And he's like, dude, I'm going to be out of town, but I would love to meet you. And I said, I'll be back in February. And I said, what's your cell? He gave me his cell. Then I— he said, what's yours? I gave him my cell. And then I saved his phone number and I tagged him wants to meet in Orlando. So now I'm doing a little AI research on the guy to kind of find out, okay, what's this guy's deal? Who is he? How does he help clients? What does he do? Conversation starters, notable achievements. I'm gonna copy his information from here and then pop it in as a note so that I have it next time I meet with him. Next time I'm in Orlando, I could hit him up. Also, once I'm on his profile, I can easily use tools like, you know, there's many other tools to use, but there are lots of tools that you can use to get people's information. In this case, this tool didn't work over there, so I'm going to try this one here and see if I can grab his email from here. As you can see, I have this, this tool over here that I can grab his email, and then I go in here and I just save his email into Evvii just like this. You see, Counterintelligence Institute or whatever. If I want to send him into Go High Level, I just push this little button here. He goes right into Go High Level. So now I have Peter inside Go High Level with just a click of a button. How cool is that?

So this, my friends, is my company called Evie AI. We're an AI assistant for social media, and we help you with a variety of different things. We help you with comments, posts, recommendations, messages, profile optimization. We create images for you. We help you organize your connections in a meaningful way. We help you build relationships. And that's one of the things that most people are not doing correctly on LinkedIn. It's building relationships. And if you can start building those relationships properly on LinkedIn, you'll really get a massive benefit from LinkedIn. So I would, I would venture to say that if you, if you actually build those relationships Love the music, Jen says. Victoria says good morning. Kashav says woo, so cuteness. If you actually went through your connections and you looked at who you're actually connected to, who are the people that are viewing your profile? Who are the people that you actually have as a connection? So for example, I'm gonna pick Jen as my thing. I'm gonna search Jen and look how many Jens I have here. You see that? I'm gonna scroll down. I'm gonna keep scrolling down, try to get more Jens going here. Look how many Jens I have here. It's insane. You see that? I'm gonna go back down. Jen, Jen, Jen, Jen, Jen. What's this Jen Hobbs over here? Um, I'm just gonna say, Jen, wishing you a happy new year. Because she doesn't have an image here and she's not paying for LinkedIn, what I'm gonna do is I'm just gonna remove her just simply because I wanna make room for people who are taking LinkedIn seriously. Okay, Jen Boyle. I'm gonna say, happy new year, Jenna. Looking forward to an amazing— So you can go through all the Jennifers and Jens and all these people and just build relationships with every single one here. And you can create a custom message that goes to all these ones and you can send them all a message, which is powerful. And you can see the last time you also messaged them. So most people are not sorting connections like this in this such a meaningful way. So for example, I might have, this is a Zachary template. I'm going to change this to a Jennifer template and I'm going to say Jennifer. All right. So I'm going to say Jennifer, I love that we're connected here on LinkedIn. Would you be interested in me roasting your profile and telling you how you could improve it? So you see that? I can go like this. I guess you're not using LinkedIn. I'm going to go ahead and remove this connection because she's not using it. And then I can go through all these just like this and kind of dump in here. You see the way I'm kind of just clicking this up arrow here and then finding the people that I want to message here and then boom. Oop, look what Penny said. Um, we'll start diving into, We'll start driving to— well, to start, we're driving to Florida. We're stopping at Fort Benning. Losing my big client to bankruptcy and amazing calm about it leaves me more time and opportunity to support other small businesses with HR. So it'll be quite a different year. I am here to support you through the— Okay, great. Jennifer Watson. Okay, I'm assuming this owner message says I interact and post frequently, but I love the DM to gain a response. I might steal it. Lol. Okay, let's see what Jennifer— Jennifer, she's from Greenville, South Carolina. I'm gonna click on Contact info. I'm gonna go to her website, see what's there. Love this. Let's see. So I'm going to go ahead and click on Comment on the Feed, and then I'm going to comment a few times on the feed over here. And in this case here, I'm going to tell them about the summit. I'm going to go here and promote the summit a little bit. I'm going to say, thanks for being a presenter last year. Richard. Okay, I just did that. I'm going to comment over here another one. This one over here, I'm just going to have the AI write it. I use a keyboard shortcut to have the AI draft a comment here, just like this. Oh, so there's another thing I wanted to do is I wanted to— ooh, look at this. We're hosting January 12th, a New Year's resolution party. This is going to be fun. Let me comment on this. Count me in. And I'm also gonna repost. Jennifer Walker, Director of Sales. Oh, let's see what Jen wants. Hi, Jen. Yes. Yes, I'm gonna hop off Zoom now. I'm gonna hop off in like one minute. I'll be right there. Thanks. Yes. Hello. Hi, Fernando. Hi, guys. Hi. How you guys doing? Yesterday? Good. Hey, Joe. Pretty good. Pretty good. Amazing. Amazing. I am on LinkedIn Live. I'm about to wrap up my LinkedIn Live. Is there— um, Jad, you had some questions about yesterday? Um, I just have some questions about beginning this role and the best way to start. So I have like 10 minutes worth of conversation if I, if you know, if I would get into it. We could, or you could put me in a breakout room with him. Do you think everyone needs to hear this, or do you, do you feel like everyone would get value from hearing this, or do you want to talk privately?
Um, well, anyone involved in the closing would get value.
Otherwise, privately would be fine. Yeah, everyone's— everyone here is involved in a closing. Yeah, everyone's involved in a closing. So, so go for it. Let's, let's get the conversation rolling. Tell me what, what you're thinking and your questions. Let's have 10 minutes of conversation here.
