Joe Apfelbaum says people remember you not for what you say but how you make them feel. Only 7% of communication is words. Pick one emotion you want to give others, like high-energy enthusiasm, and transmit that consistently instead of perfecting your pitch.

Standing out at networking events so people actually remember you is easier than you think. Inside the book High Energy Networking, I talk about the concept that people don't remember what you say. People rarely remember what you say, but they often will remember how you made them feel because emotions are really connected to deep parts in our brain that are part of our memories. And so our memories are tied to our emotions. And the question I want you to ask yourself is, if you want to be memorable, is how would you like to make people feel at a networking event? If you want to make them feel high energy like me, they'll remember you as the high energy person. And that's how people are going to connect what you say with who you are. It's not what you say, it's how you make them feel. So think about how you want to make people feel. And don't worry so much about the words that you use, but worry about the emotion. Concern yourself with the transfer of emotion that you're having with people. Only 7% of what we say is verbal, is actual language. The other parts is what people will actually remember. So make sure that you make a good impression by connecting deeply with people's emotions.
