Live Cold Calling with Joe Apfelbaum CEO of evyAI

Joe Apfelbaum cold calls three prospects to sell LinkedIn training and AI assistant support. He personalizes each call, addresses cost objections by positioning his service at under $2,000 annually versus $10,000 for strategy alone, and books follow-ups with a mortgage broker, direct-sales pro, and construction company owner.
Chapters
Albert, the reason I'm calling is because I was notified you were interested in LinkedIn training. Are you looking for clients right now, Albert? Or are you looking for a job?
No, not a job. I own a business.
Oh, cool. Tell me about the business that you own. Are you a mortgage broker?
Yes, I'm a mortgage broker. I own the business.
Miami, right?
Yes, sir.
I saw you have 2 profiles, one that you pay for and one that you don't pay for.
I have kind of no idea. I'm not good at it. I have no idea.
Well, you're in good hands. I've been teaching LinkedIn for 10 years, so you're in good hands. I'd love to sit with you on a quiz show.
Are you local or where?
I was just in Miami. I'm going to be there for Passover. I'm staying at my mother's house in Hollywood, but I'm in New Jersey. So yeah, we're—
I'm in Florida. I was born in Jersey.
You were born in Jersey?
Yeah. Many fucking— 1969.
Oh my God. So you're 10 years older than me.
My dad came to visit family member.
From where? From where?
And he goes, "I'm staying." No, we're Cuban. My parents are Cuban.
Oh, so Cubano. Qué lindo. Y hablas español también.
I was born here.
Okay, lindo.
Sí, sí.
Un poco de español.
Yo hablo Spanglish.
Spanglish mejor, mejor. Spanglish es mejor que español.
Yeah, especially here. No, no. The Spanish, the people in the last ten years, you don't even. I don't even understand them. Right.
No, I see, I see that you have 2 profiles. You're not really sure what you're doing. I'd love to show you what we're doing and how we teach people how to leverage LinkedIn. Are you available today?
Who do we— who do we—
Okay, so my name is Joe Apfelbaum. I have a company called Evy AI, E-V-Y-A-I, where we provide mortgage brokers and people in real estate that are consultants and coaches. We provide you with like an assistant But the assistant's not a person, it's artificial intelligence and it sits—
It's okay. It's okay. Whatever you think is working. This is my shit with people, with companies, and that, uh, which I stopped doing. I just, I don't even know how I, maybe I clicked on something. I just like right now I'm using one that does a little advertisement. I froze it for a while because I speak to the owner like you. Yeah. And whenever I want to speak, I have a question because I'm not techie. Um, we have a CRM and we have a thing called Slack that we all communicate. It's like 6, me and like 6 other people that work in there.
Yeah.
And whenever I have a question, I say, please call me within 5 or 7 hours. Maybe by the next day they're calling me. And that's the only way. That's the only reason I do it. The other people, everything was through chat, chat, chat.
No, no, no, no, no.
Take money from my account.
I know.
And so if you're the owner and I could speak to you, one of your colleagues, and we do things sometimes on the phone, sometimes this. I don't mind. And also the fees, the fees, whatever it is, you know. But, um, yeah, yeah, that really depends. I have a small business. I don't have a multi-million dollar company.
You're not gonna spend $50,000 a month. I get you, Albert. I get you. I know where you're at. Um, we meet our clients every day, twice a day, live on Zoom if they want to join. We're available live. Y también todos hablan español aquí. So we could speak Spanish.
No, no, I, I talk Spanish. No, no, no, no, I suck at it.
Okay, okay.
No, no, please don't.
We could do English. We could do English.
But I'm just saying— Yes, of course.
I'm just saying we're bilingual. Everybody's bilingual here. But but we speak perfect English and we're available live every single day on Zoom. Not just a phone call, but on Zoom. My cell phone number is on my LinkedIn profile. I have 500 written recommendations from my clients, but I put my cell phone number on LinkedIn.
Okay, awesome.
Both me and my partner, we do that because we're very big into customer service. Even though we have 23,000 users in 40 countries around the world, we have live chat and we also have live Zoom and we also have phone call that you can call. And we have people that you can speak to, real people, and we also have AI agents you can talk to, but we have both. We have everything available to you. Okay. Yeah.
Okay. Okay.
And we're super affordable.
Today I do not have time. Today I, I don't have time. I don't have time.
What about tomorrow?
But, um, let's do it Friday.
Friday the 20th?
No. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay. Uh, like 5 PM or like 6 PM?
No, no, I can't. I can't. It's— I will have— how about 11 Eastern time?
11 Eastern time. Let me quickly check the calendar for the team.
See if— for how long? Like, like what, 30 minutes?
30 minutes. Yeah, 30 minutes. We're going to send you a questionnaire just to make it faster for us. Okay.
Because you send me an email also with things, whatever you— I don't even know. I don't even know what you do.
You'll know exactly. You'll know exactly what we do. You're going to get an email with everything.
Um, and you'll know exactly what email do you have? What email do you have?
Um, the email I have starts with— hang on, I'm, I'm, I'm middle of booking you for 11 AM. So Let me just save this appointment so I don't lose this window. I'm gonna save the appointment so I don't lose the window. I have albert@yourwebsite.mortgage, at 3letters.mortgage.
albert@hmp.mortgage. Yeah, there's no .com.
Right, exactly. There's no .com. That's why I said .mortgage.
Perfect. Yeah, you can use that.
Yeah, so could you check, could you just check if you got the text and you got the email? We just sent it to you.
Yeah, you sent me 2.
Okay, great. So yeah, so that has all the information. There's a questionnaire that you could fill out that'll explain Uh, it'll ask you a bunch of questions, but it'll explain who we are and what we do.
I got it. I got it.
I also—
I'll look into it and I'll do it. The one that says, um, strategy, whatever.
Okay. Exactly. And then I also sent you my LinkedIn profile. On my LinkedIn profile, I have a short video that explains everything. I sent it to you like earlier when you, when you requested the information yesterday at 6 PM. Yeah. Just click on it. Yep. Yesterday at 6 PM. Yep. There you go.
I think so. This is, I don't know if this is you, 6/11.
Yep. Joe Apfelbaum. That's my name. So it's right there.
Wait, no, wait, wait. Hold on. There's some other shit there.
I'll send you another—
Yeah, send it over because I don't have it. I don't have it.
I just sent you my LinkedIn profile. This is the best place to get to know somebody. You look at their LinkedIn profile, you know every single thing about them. Everything about them. So I have a video in my featured videos and then I have a one-sheet.
You sent my LinkedIn profile, but through LinkedIn, not to my email, correct?
No, no, I sent you my LinkedIn profile via email, but I'll also send you a message on LinkedIn just to say hello. I'm just gonna write, hello, did you get this? And I just sent you a little message on LinkedIn. Just reply to that message. I just used one of my credits to send you a message 'cause we don't have any mutual connections. So I just sent you a message. I wrote, hello, did you get this? Can you look on LinkedIn and just see if you can hit, yes, I got it?
I'm going to give me a minute. Fuck, I have LinkedIn here. I have it on my phone. Hold on, man. I'm trying to—
You're good. You're good. Take your time. No rush.
Yeah. Bear with me because I have multiple emails and I see, I think the LinkedIn goes somewhere else. Let me see.
Well, just log into linkedin.com and then see if you get a message. Yeah.
You're right. I do have a different one.
You have 2 separate LinkedIns, one that you pay for and one that you don't pay for, but don't worry. We'll take care of you, show you everything. I train LinkedIn employees how to use LinkedIn.
Give me a minute. Um, I'm doing it through my phone because I couldn't— the one that I receive is, um, I don't, I don't know which one that you send it to. So I'm looking for messages, network notifications.
If you click on messages, do you see a message in there?
Chris? No, that's Chris. No, somebody else. I don't know.
How many—
if you—
okay, click on My Network and tell me how many connections you have. Does it say you have 8 connections or does it say you have 102 connections? Because I see 2 profiles for you, one that has 8 and one that has 102.
My Network, I go there.
And then click on the left side, it says connections. Are you on your computer or on your phone?
I'm on my phone.
Let me go on my phone because I'm looking at my computer. Let me quickly check on my phone. I'm opening up LinkedIn on my phone just to kind of see what it is. Yeah. So click on my network. And then if you scroll down just a little bit, it says manage my network under the invitations. And then when on top it says connections and it says a number next to it.
102.
102. Okay, good. So that's the one. So go back, press back and then scroll down and click on, on the top right corner, there's a little message box, click on messages and there's an inbox there. Do you see a little message box? If you go back to the homepage of LinkedIn on the top right corner—
New message.
Okay.
Exactly. And then in there you'll see Joe. Joe. Yeah. Open it up.
There you go.
Hit yes and hit thank you. Just say thank you. Or just say, I appreciate you. Or just say God is great or whatever you believe, whatever you want to say.
Okay, perfect. Okay.
Okay, great. So now, now that you replied, thank you for reaching out, I'd like to learn more, I'm going to say thank you. And then in that little message box, I'm also going to include the questionnaire so that you have it on LinkedIn, it doesn't get lost. Here's the questionnaire, I just sent it to you in that little message box. Um, and then if you look at my pro— and then it's saying looking forward to you to talk to you on Friday, March 20th at 11 AM. I just sent you also the link of where you could log in at 11:00 AM.
Through email, correct?
I sent it both through email, also through text, and now also in your LinkedIn message. So in that same place that you say hello—
I go, I go back to messages. I see 3 new messages.
Exactly.
So, okay. 9:50 looking for— okay. I got you. I got you. Cause I keep on going back to it. It says 3 new messages and then—
No problem. And we will also teach you all the basics of LinkedIn. So you get really acclimated and you could start leveraging it properly. Start meeting those real estate agents that can, you know, refer business to you and whatnot. You know, whoever your centers of influence are.
Okay. All right, let me— Joe, I— you got me by surprise. I'm finishing something up that I gotta turn in soon by 10. Um, so at 11 o'clock, when is it?
Friday? Friday at 11. We'll see you then.
I'm gonna read up on some stuff, learn, and see, maybe we could do something together.
I would love that. I would love that. Thank you very much for spending some time with me today.
Thank you. Hey, you, you have a great personality for what you're doing, bro.
Oh, you're so kind. I really appreciate that. That means a lot to me. A lot of people aren't as nice as you, you know that, right?
No, no, I'm— well, around here, we— I get, I'm not lying to you, 15 to 17 soliciting calls a day, sending me that if I want money, do I want to buy insurance for my car, I don't know.
They're not— but they don't want to build a relationship with you. I want to get to know you. I want to learn about your life. I want to know How much money you want to make, and I want to put you first. I want to put you first.
If you want to know about my life, you'll be bored, bro.
No, I doubt it. I doubt it because you have a beautiful soul. You have a beautiful soul.
Okay. All right, Joe. No, I definitely, definitely we do. Definitely. Hey, thank you, Josh. I'll speak to you on Friday at 11 o'clock.
All right. See you then.
Bye. Have a great day, sir. You too. Bye-bye. Bye.
Ba dum ba da da dum bum bum. Ba dum ba da da dum bum. Ba dum ba da da dum bum bum. Okay, booked another one. I booked another one. I booked another one. Okay, let me keep calling.
Hello?
Campaign ended. All right, so let's pick another. Okay, so I called these 12 leads. Let me move them all. So Albert, new lead, we're going to do scheduled for demo. Update. And then who's the other guy that came in? John. John, John, John. We're gonna move John from new lead to scheduled for later today, scheduled for demo. Ba dum ba da da dum bum bum. All right, okay, so we moved all these people out. Now we have 10 opportunities. We're gonna go ahead and call these 10 opportunities again. We're gonna go through and call these 10 opportunities. All numbers skipped for time zone protection. Okay, great. So I'm gonna go ahead and do recalls.
Dial.
Wow, so it only actually called 2 people. That's crazy. Hello, Blair?
Can I help you?
Hi, the reason I'm calling is because I was notified that you were interested in some LinkedIn training. Are you looking for clients, Blair, or are you looking for a job or something?
Which one? Who are you?
My name is Joe Apfelbaum. I'm the CEO of Evvy AI, and I'm just calling some people that raised their hand and said that they're interested in LinkedIn training. Are you looking for clients?
Absolutely.
Okay, wonderful. What type of business do you have?
Well, I, right now I'm in direct sales.
Oh, great. I love speaking to people that are in direct sales. And you're a 914 area code, so I'm assuming in your Westchester area or maybe That's an old number. Okay, got it. Where are you based now?
In New Jersey.
You're in Jersey? I'm in Jersey too. That's wonderful. I'm in Union County.
Okay.
Uh, Blair, what's your last name? Is it Via or something else? You just put that in.
That's fine. Via.
Via? Okay, cool. Because I was looking for you on LinkedIn as, as your name and I couldn't really find you. Do you use LinkedIn?
I'm not on LinkedIn.
Okay, got it.
Got it.
Got it. Why are you not on LinkedIn? Is it because you don't really believe in it?
Well, I don't have time right now. I'm on the phone with a A partner, but—
Okay, could we schedule a quick call just so I can show you what we're doing for other people and we can take it from there?
Uh, do you have any information you could send to me?
Of course, I can send you information. I'm happy to send you information, but the best thing for us to do is just to have a conversation. Are you available today at 12:30 for a quick call? So I could show you—
Not today.
Okay, what about Friday at 12:30?
I'm attending a wedding, uh, so that's not good either.
Okay, are you available— are you available at 7 PM on Friday? After the wedding?
Uh, 8.
8 PM?
Well, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, that's going until 9. No, I'm not.
Okay, what about, what about on Monday? Are you available at 7 PM on Monday?
Let me check.
Or at 12 PM on Monday? Let me know which one works better for you.
Okay. You said Monday at what time?
12 p.m. Eastern, New Jersey time.
I have nothing scheduled for that.
Oh, perfect. Yeah, I'll send you a 12 p.m. Eastern. And can I look at your— is there a website I can look at so I can do a little bit of my research? Obviously, Sam, I'm really, I'm really, I'm at it.
I'm really at a bootstrapping stage. Straps right now, so okay. Yeah, I don't have that set up.
You don't have a website. By the way, you know that websites could be set up for free now with AI. You just put in a prompt and the website appears. We'll talk about that when we talk on Monday.
Okay, sounds good.
Thank you, Blair. Thank you for taking my call.
Thank you.
All right, bye.
Thank you. Bye bye.
He's interested for Monday. He has no LinkedIn. Does not have LinkedIn. Does not have LinkedIn. Does not have LinkedIn, but interested in learning more. Monday at 12 PM. Ladies and gentlemen, I am going to success. Let's go. Recording in progress. Hello, hello, hello.
Nice.
Hi, hi, how are you? How's it going, Crystal?
Good.
Fantastic. I'm glad that you joined us here today.
Okay, this is weird. Is there 2 of you or just one of you?
No, no, no. First of all, AI is not even here yet. But I do, I do wish that there was a time where AI can do all this stuff so we don't have to do it. But you know what? I really do enjoy Learning about people, connecting with people, and building relationships with them. So, um, there's a couple of us here, but, um, I'll be the one chatting with you right now. So Crystal, are you— you're looking for new clients, right?
Yes, correct.
Do you want to quickly tell us what type of clients you're looking for? Because if I look for you, I see a construction company. I see a lot of stuff going on. Is that you?
Yes, we're a construction company. Uh, we do custom homes, remodels, kitchens, bathrooms, amazing windows, doors. So we're just construction company.
Amazing. Amazing. Okay. And I see that, um, you're motivated to getting on a call because you're looking to expand your marketing presence and bring in new customers. So marketing rather than like networking and relationship building, or you're willing to kind of do both?
Networking, relationship building is a part of that, I believe. I think it's a huge part because who you know matters.
I agree. Who you know definitely matters. Um, and in terms of like current budget, I know money is tight right now.
Yeah.
What are, what are you, what are you currently investing in your marketing? Are you doing anything marketing-wise?
We are doing some marketing. We're doing, um, like we hired some— the Facebook thing will boost pages.
Okay.
We do some things on Google. We did the Alignable.
You do? Oh, you did Alignable? You paid for Alignable?
Okay. Yeah, we did Alignable. We just— stuff like that. We're trying to broaden it, like the Better Business Bureau. We just love that. Love that.
So you are, you are already, you are already investing. Um, yeah. And you— is Fred your, your husband or your partner?
Yeah, he's my husband and he's the owner, the president.
He's the president and the owner?
The decision maker. Yeah.
He makes all the decisions. So do we need— do we— if we decide that we want to work together and we show you something that's affordable, would Fred need to like confirm and be on the call to make the decision?
Correct. Yes.
Amazing. Amazing. Is Fred available to join the call so we can, so we can get Not today.
That's why I'm on the call.
Okay. Okay.
Okay.
Yeah.
So, well, I'll tell you what we do and we'll explain it very briefly. And then what we'll do is we'll schedule possibly another call to— so, you know, we don't have to do anything today, but we'll schedule another call for you and Fred so you guys can make a decision together. Does that make sense?
The prices and stuff that we need to get together so that way we can go over it together and now we can make a decision.
Okay. Okay.
But, you know, sometimes it's hard for you to relate to Fred. what it— like the, the value that we provide. So sometimes it makes sense for everyone to kind of get together with us and get all the questions answered and then make a decision, yes or no. Do you know what I mean?
Okay. I'd rather have the information when I go to them, but—
Of course. Of course. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We'll give you all the information, of course. But sometimes to describe it to the person, it's a little harder.
Yeah.
So that's why, that's why we're, we're, um, we're happy to sit with Mansfried and you.
Yeah.
Um, and help you be able to make a decision on it. And by the way, I love your, I love your photo on your website. It looks really cool. I love the books behind you and everything. Um, and, um, and yeah, someone like you is very necessary to, to be running a business and be doing all the activities and everything. Is, is Fred the only salesperson in the organization right now?
No.
Okay. Is, um, is Brian also doing it or?
Yes.
Okay. So it's Fred and Brian. Amazing. Amazing. Okay. So here's, here's my thought process. The biggest problem that people have with getting, especially people that are in construction, when you're doing jobs that are like $30K to $50K, um, is that they don't really have a solid strategy. If you have a solid strategy, the likelihood of you being successful, um, is much, much, much higher, much better.
Yeah.
Um, and if I look at, you know, Fred's, you know, uh, profile on On LinkedIn, I'll notice, you know, he has 94 connections. He doesn't really have much going on. Maybe he posted once in the past month. Is he part of like a BNI group or something?
Uh, we were, but we stopped doing the BNI, but he, he's just not getting back into LinkedIn and he didn't really do much with it. So that's why we're trying to broaden it and open it up. And then, you know, when he said something about that, I'm like, well, we can look into it and see what they offer and what it's about.
100%. 100%. No, I get that. I totally get that. Yeah. So, so the biggest problem that people have is not having the right strategy. Uh, and to, and to get the right strategy for you to be able to be successful, typically, um, people pay us $10,000 to build out a strategy for them because it can be very intense. A company like yours probably can't afford to do that at this point.
Um, strategy. How long does your strategy last? Is that something that you implement for the year?
It's for the year. It's for the year. And then you could do it, you know, you, So here's what goes into a strategy. What is the plan? Who are the people? What is the promise? What are the stories? Like figuring out exactly what you need to do and what you need to say. Who are the centers of influence? Who's in the position to refer you? What do the lists look like? What do you need to say to those people? How often do you need to communicate with them? That's the idea.
Yes.
Excuse me, Joe, can you look at WhatsApp please? Of course. Um, so, so yeah, so getting a strategy in order is really, really key. That's really important. Um, And building out that strategy is what, is what people need.
Okay.
Um, so I love helping companies be able to come up with these strategies. And we also have a software that'll help you be able to do the things that you need to do to be successful. So number one is the strategy. Number 2 is the technology. So I can have Fernando share his screen. Um, and he'll show you the technology and he'll show you how like the strategy works. And then right now we're running a special deal called the Bundle Plus where we, where we combine the strategy and the technology in one and you just pay for the technology. So it's super affordable for the entire year. You get it for less, you get it for less than $2,000. That's the idea.
Okay.
So I'm gonna let Fernando take it from here. I understand where you're at. I understand what you're doing. And then he'll explain everything to you and he'll show you everything. He'll share his screen, show you everything. And then maybe we'll schedule another call with Fred if you think it makes sense, or you'll bring the information and Fred wants it. Great. You know, you might just be authorized to do it, but because the fee is not that much, but you're in good hands with Fernando. I just wanted to make sure I understood your business. Um, and I appreciate you taking the time to trust us and I'm looking forward to— And Lance is here as well. Uh, Joe. All right. Thank you very much. We'll talk to you guys soon.
Yes, sir. Thank you.
All right, bye. Hello, hello, how are you today?
Hey, I'm good, how are you?
