John Kenny argues that prioritizing your own needs isn't selfish, it's essential. When you treat yourself as a priority, you signal to others that you deserve respect and attract people who won't take advantage. People conditioned to feel guilty about self-care often don't realize a healthier, happier version of you benefits everyone around you.

Hi, an issue I work with a lot with my clients is the ability to be able to put yourself first and to prioritize your own wants and your own needs. A lot of people see this as being selfish, but being selfish isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you can prioritize yourself, then also other people will be able to prioritize you too. If you don't, then people won't make you a priority because you'll always be giving to others. And you have a tendency then to attract people that like to take things. Now, those things can come from our experiences where we've been told we were being selfish, or we got a reaction from people in the past that made us believe that doing things for ourselves or wanting things for ourselves isn't a good thing. If you can prioritize yourself and be healthy and happy, then everybody in your life will benefit, especially you. Go out today, do something for yourself that's good, see how you feel. Thanks for watching. I'll speak to you soon.
