In this solo video, John Kenny – The Relationship Guy – explains the difference between lack (scarcity) and abundance mindsets. He defines a lack mindset as a fear‑based focus on what one does not want, rooted in early life experiences such as limited resources, loss, or parental anxiety, which leads to a self‑fulfilling cycle of attracting unwanted outcomes. He contrasts this with an abundance mindset, an expectancy that good things will happen, historically referenced by Buddha’s “what you think you create” and the modern law of attraction. Kenny argues that the brain seeks what it believes it wants, so an abundance mindset generates more positive experiences. He emphasizes that mindsets are not fixed; by consciously changing thoughts, beliefs about self‑worth, and behaviours – often with coaching support – one can shift from lack to abundance. He cites Tony Robbins (“change your thoughts, change your life”) and ends with a call to contact his coaching services.

Hello and welcome to this video today about mindsets and how we can either have a mindset of abundance or lack. We could have various forms of a lack mindset which can include scarcity, missing out, and focusing on the wrong things. Having a lack mindset is generally one based in a fear of not having. Do you aim for things by saying you don't want this or you don't want that? Well, that's an example of a lack mindset because you are focusing on what you don't want rather than aiming for what you do want. Your mind will just focus on what you don't want, and then you just end up getting that anyway. These mindsets are built up over time and come from your life experiences. They are down to your perceptions and your beliefs built up over this time period. For example, you could have struggled when you were young of not being given very much, so this could lead to you now thinking that you don't deserve things, And that you now don't expect things. You could have also experienced things being taken away from you, so you now have a fear of loss and that things maybe don't last. Maybe your parents were worried about not having things, so you experienced seeing how that affected them and how they reacted, and now you react in the same way. There are other things that can lead to scarcity. They can be practical, but in this case we're really looking at how they are on the emotional level. Having an abundance mindset is about having an expectancy that good things will happen, and again, this will be built over your experiences over time and your life and your outlook being more positive. Have you heard of the law of attraction? Well, 2,500 years ago, Buddha wrote that what you think you create. So we've been aware of this kind of mindset issue and how we can create things in our lives for a very long time. Your brain actively seeks out what you believe that you want, so having an abundance mindset will then lead to a more positive thing and more positive experiences happening in your life. A lack mindset keeps you in a life of scarcity, and you will keep continuing to get in your life what you don't want. The good thing about this is it can be changed by changing your thoughts, changing your behaviour. You can change what you believe deep down about yourself and what you deserve, and then you can start to live a different kind of life. You can have an abundance mindset in life even though your experiences were one of lack, because in the past you could have chosen to think differently and not allow your negative experiences to dictate how you live your life. What you want in your life and how you are going to get that will all depend on how you think about it. And what you allow for yourself will come from what you really believe that you deserve. As Tony Robbins says, if you change your thoughts, you can change your life. I hope that you've taken something from this video today. Please do contact us by visiting www.the-relationship-guy.com.
