Megan at Pure Land Farm explains why she's using AEA's new fungicide Kynion, which works by altering leaf chemistry, boosting beneficial microbes, and activating plant immunity. The cinnamon-oil formula costs less than copper sprays and tank-mixes with other products, so one or two early applications handle fungal disease for the season.

Hey farmers, it's Megan from Pureland. We're partnering with AEA this year to show you how we use their stuff on our farm, and today I'm going to talk about Kynion. This is a new one for us. It's actually fairly new to AEA as well. I saw John Kempf talking about it at the Acres Conference and in a couple webinars, and when John Kempf gets excited about a product, the smart thing to do is for you to start getting excited about it as well. Kynion is a fungicide, so the way that this works, as I understand it, is in 3 different ways on the plant. Number 1, it changes the chemistry on the leaf surface of the plant so that it's inhospitable for fungal pathogens. The second way is that it also selectively, like, encourages the proliferation of certain beneficial microbes that sanitize the plant leaf surface, and actually I think inside the plant leaf as well. And the third way is that Pinion directly activates immune pathways in the plant that raise the immune response and give you a more robust, a better defense to your plant. I've used a lot of fungicides in the past. We're down here in the Deep South, right? So I've used chemical organic fungicides like copper. Really wanted to get away from that. Use some biofungicides and they work, but they can get really expensive, and Pinion is not. So I'm really excited about that. But the best part, it's formulated with cinnamon oil, so it actually smells like Christmas. All AEA stuff is designed to tank mix with the other AEA products, which I love because when you're busy, you don't have time to spend your life spraying all kinds of different stuff on every day of the week. I could just mix it all together and go. It's designed to be like a 1 or 2 applications needed at the beginning of the season to prevent fungal disease. So I'm going to get my first one on today, and we're going to check back in a few weeks.
