Cole Neese treats cover crop seed with BioCoat Gold, a mycorrhizal and bacterial inoculant, and SeedFlare, a liquid micronutrient spray, to improve fall establishment. He's seen better results than broadcasting untreated seed and recommends farmers try both products.

Hey, everybody. Cole Neese here in central Indiana just found out the AEA is going to have a sale on some of their fall use products and thought I would explain how and why I use a couple of them. We don't usually think about treating our cover crop seed just because most people just kind of throw it out there and see what happens. But it actually is a pretty good opportunity to get biology established in our soil and really just to get a good cover crop establishment and make sure that the COVID crop does the best that it can. So the first product we use for that is Biokoat Gold. It is a mycorrhizal and bacterial inoculant that makes sure that it helps that seed to germinate. And then as soon as it germinates, it makes sure that the biology is immediately colonizing those roots and getting a good rhizo sheath established and getting everything going. The second product is Seed Flare. It is a liquid product that you have to spray on, and it is a micronutrient package. A lot of times the seeds will be just a little bit deficient in some different micronutrients. And Seed Flare is a custom blend to just kind of help a seedling get out of the ground and get going. And so between those two products, we've definitely seen a difference, and it can really help your cover crop get established in the fall and make sure you get a good stand. And I would encourage you guys to try a little bit on your farm.
