MLB outfielder Byron Buxton shares how his truck-driver father inspired him, describing how he still uses his dad's horn honk gesture to celebrate on the field. Pilot's Road Warrior campaign thanks truckers for their essential work keeping America moving.
Get it right now, Keith. Olympic gold medalist Asli Rivera.
Thanks, Asli. See this baseball? It came from a trucker. So did this shirt. Almost everything we have comes from truckers, but we don't give them a lot of appreciation, do we? Which is why I'm so excited about the work that we're doing for Pilot. We're telling stories about truckers to give them appreciation and gratitude. Here's a story that we told with Byron Buxton of the Minnesota Twins, whose dad was a trucker.
As a kid, I used to wait for my dad to get home, and when I saw his truck or heard his truck coming down the road, I would always pump my arm like this up and down until he sounded the horn. I call it the buck truck, and still to this day, after I get a big hit or a big play, it's a tribute to my dad that really means a lot to me. My dad's a road warrior because he was a trucker, and if I wasn't a baseball player, I'd be a truck driver too. When I first started, it was one of those things that me and my dad kind of joked around about, and I actually started playing pretty well, and it brought the kid back into me. ¡Gracias! While it's for my dad, it's also for all the truck drivers, thanking them for their hard work, dedication, and everything they do to keep this country running. So here's to you.
