Hey, what's up guys? This is my first YouTube video. I'm going to do a little review. My name is Jon-Patrick Thornton. I'm in the Navy. I'm living down here in Key West, beautiful Key West. I'm actually a little ways from Key West. I'm up on Sugarloaf Key, but it's still really nice. It's beautiful here. The beer I'm going to be reviewing is The Spaten Optimator. It's a Doppelbock. It's imported from Germany. It's a Munich beer. Pretty nice frothy head on this beer. I've been in the Navy for probably about 8 years, 8 years in May. Um, just got married last June to my beautiful wife Lydia. She is a kindergarten teacher down here in the Keys. They're on spring break right now and she flew to Charleston last weekend for a girls weekend and she's back home in our hometown visiting with friends and family. So this is— I couldn't ask for a better place to have our first couple years of marriage, being here in Key West. This is a magical place. But regardless, it has been— the Navy has taken me to some pretty cool places over the 8 years that I've been in. And I enjoy it so far. I really do. If you're deciding whether or not to join or not, there's, you know, weigh your pros and cons on what you want to get out of the Navy, what you want to get out of the military. It's a good paycheck. It's a good steady paycheck. There's, you get to go some cool places. But then there's always that factor of, you know, you have to maintain your physical fitness, keep yourself out of trouble obviously, which a lot of people seem to have trouble doing these days. And then you have to abide by their rules, by the military's rules, which, you know, aren't all, uh, aren't all, you know, ridiculous or anything. But you are governed under the UCMJ, the Articles of the UCMJ. So you're not just governed under the actual laws of, you know, mankind, but you're governed under this Uniform Code of Military Justice. And you can, even if you're not prosecuted out in town for doing something, you can you can be held accountable for your actions under the UCMJ and be punished by a court-martial, whether it's court-martial or if it's just a non-judicial punishment where you'll be put on restriction for 30 days or 45 days and you will be given extra duty and then half month's pay times 2. But You know, I could not have asked for a better duty station than here in Key West. You know, the fishing is phenomenal, the weather is amazing. It's like 65 degrees here right now and it's in March. And the whole winter has been absolutely, you know, unbelievable. So we'll go into the beer. The head has finally gone down a little bit. It's got a nice dark, rich brown color to it, kind of opaque almost. It's not all the way— it's not all the way, you know, non-translucent. It's definitely got some translucent properties to it, and it looks to maintain the head pretty good. So let's go ahead and give it a nice swig. Cheers, by the way. Oh, that's great. You can definitely tell it's a higher ABV, alcohol by volume. Not too hoppy. A little sweet. It's got kind of a creamy sweet taste. Thick, you know, definitely thick. It's something that's probably like an after-dinner beer. Something that you'd want to have, you know, after you finish your meal for sure. It's almost like a dessert beer. Well, of course, being a doppelbock, that's to be understood. But it says here that this company has been brewed in Munich, Germany since 1397. But yeah, overall, out of 10, out of my 10 ranking scale, I think I'm going to give it a— I think I'm going to give it a 6.5, 6.5, 7. It's not the greatest, greatest— it's not— these type of beers aren't my favorite, but you You know, then again, I love every beer, but you know, this isn't, this doesn't rank in my top 5 favorite beers, the Doppelbock. But it's definitely a good, if you have an occasion where you want to sit down and enjoy something that's rich and fulfilling, definitely go with the Optimator. It's definitely a good beer. I'd like to keep making more videos. I'm just trying this out now. I'll show you guys around the house, around our little abode. Property here in Key West is absolutely insane. So this property here, we pay $2,500 a month, which is anywhere else in America you can get like a mansion for. But we have a little mudroom right here where our washer and dryer are, and I keep tools and, you know, other knickknacks like things like our Christmas stuff and holiday stuff. Uh, we have a porch, uh, with a small yard, a garden out there. Um, we have a grill, which is my grill I bought. Our landlords actually live right next to us. Um, here's our dining room table and our living room. Um, kitchen area, so everything's pretty much connected. It's kind of like a an open floor plan. We do have— there's our bedroom, and then here is the guest bedroom. The guest bedroom does have its own bathroom, which is nice because we like to have guests over. You know, a lot of people like to visit us down here in Paradise. So here's our guest bathroom, which is kind of cool. Whenever I had this place at first, before I was married, I was living here by myself and I had everything on a— like I had the TV on a Rubbermaid container and I had my bed on just on the ground without box— without a— well, I had a box spring, but I didn't have the bed support, the metal bed support. And, you know, whenever Lydia came, she definitely spruced the place up with, you know, paintings and pictures and things like that. So we're both from Southeast Georgia, so we have this— this was given to us by Celia, her sister. The Empire State of the South, that's of course Georgia's nickname. Here's our bathroom. So ours is actually a little bit smaller, I think, than the the guest bathroom. But that's a little bit about me. I will put more out as I get more in tune with how to do these videos and stuff. I think I'm definitely going to review beers. I'm a huge beer snob, so I love beer, so I'll keep reviewing some beers and I'll keep trying to upload some videos for you guys to check out and to enjoy. But I'll check you guys later. Thanks for checking out the video. Peace.
