Major Life Cycles for Prediction: the Saturn Maha Dasha

YouTube lecture by astrologer Joni Patry introducing the Saturn Maha Dasha (a 19-year Vimshottari dasha ruled by Saturn). Patry explains the dasha arises from the natal Moon’s Nakshatra, that Saturn brings seriousness, responsibility, endings and rewards depending on discipline and chart placement, and then gives a house-by-house interpretation: effects for Saturn placed in the 1st through 12th houses (e.g., increased responsibility in 1st; financial/family restrictions in 2nd; learning/communication discipline in 3rd; home/mother issues in 4th; focus on children/creativity in 5th; health, work and service changes in 6th; partnership/deep relationship issues in 7th; research, longevity and shared-finance organization in 8th; spiritual/truth work and possible father/healing or delayed immigration in 9th; career success in 10th; friend-group pruning in 11th; inner work, sleep issues and endings in 12th). She frames the dasha as potentially healing and rewarding, and notes ascendants that particularly benefit (Capricorn, Aquarius; Taurus and Libra as yoga-karaka). Closing includes promotions for her courses and website.

Hi, I'm Joni Petrie and welcome to my YouTube channel. Well, I wanted to talk about the grand cycles, the cycles, I call them a major change in transition, the dashas. So I'm here to talk about the Saturn Maha dasha. So for those of you that fear Saturn most of the time Saturn can be a great life change. So the Saturn maha dasha is not to be feared. It really depends on how your Saturn's placed. So remember these whole dasha, the Vimshottri dasha system is based on where your natal moon is, your birth chart. Depending on what Nakshatra your natal moon is in the planet that rules that Nakshatra starts and initiates your entire life cycle. So the natal moon in your chart, I always call Vedic astrology a lunar based system because the natal moon in your chart.
Really depicts when everything happens in your life. That's amazing. So let's talk about if you move into the Saturn Maha dasha.
That very first phase, Saturn. Saturn. Saturn is a 19 year cycle. It is lengthy. And when you first go into Saturn, Saturn, it's going to last for about three years or more but around that amount of time. So you will have a serious initiation when you go into Saturn. Remember, Saturn is serious, not fun and games anymore. It's like what are we going to do to make things happen and work? Saturn's responsibility. And that's, you know, nothing wrong with that. To be responsible, to be serious, to work hard. And remember Saturn gives us our just rewards. If we've worked hard and we're diligent, we're disciplined, focused, structured, Saturn rewards us. And I always tell people when you have a good Saturn, the second part of your life is always better than the first. So that's something to look forward to. And moving into Saturn's maha dasha, it really does matter what houses Saturn rules.
But most of all, the most important thing is what house Saturn's in. Now for those of you that have an Aquarius or a Capricorn ascendant, Saturn's going to treat you well. Saturn's your chart ruler.
And if you have Taurus or Libra as your ascendant, Saturn will treat you even better. It's your yoga karaka planet. In other words, it rules the good houses, an angle and a Trine all by itself. So those are the ascendants that will prosper the most with Saturn's maha dasha. But they'll especially prosper if Saturn's placed in a good sign in a good house. But let's talk about the houses. Saturn of course is exalted in Libra and of course it rules Capricorn and Aquarius, but it's debilitated in Aries. So those are the signs that are, well, the, the best and the worst. The worst is when Saturn's in Aries. But there's all sorts of variables that cancel that. So don't get locked into that. There's so, so many things about this and really I want everyone to, to recognize that you've got to really study this to get your answers. So once again I haven't really about my school. If you're really interested in taking this to the next level, realize I have an online school called the University of Vedicastrology.com check it out and you'll see that you can learn this in much greater detail. So, but moving on, let's talk about if you have Saturn in the first house.
And you move into Saturn's Maha dasha, this makes you ultra mega responsible. And when you have Saturn in the first house.
You always feel responsible for everyone and everything around you and the heaviness in the sense of responsibility will become more intense. But that's who you are. It's your nature anyway to always feel like you need to take care of others and you do a great job too. So I know that that's going to be something that prospers and grows and what's going to happen is you're going to be more responsible and take care of other people.
There's a heaviness that comes with Saturn in the first house when you go into this dasha and a seriousness. So but I think that's your natural nature anyway.
So if you have Saturn in the second house and you move into Saturn's Maha Dasha, there may be some restrictions financially, but depending on the sign, sometimes Saturn can have you work harder where you can be more productive. I've seen this many times too.
But the second house, in terms of ruling family and our family environment, you know, there may be someone that you're more, you have to be more responsible for taking care of or there may be some losses in the family. Don't forget Saturn does cut things off and ends things. So that could be everything to do with family, everything to do with, with the connections to family members. There could be endings, even an ending like in a relationship. Because believe it or not, people don't realize the second house is the eighth house from the seventh which could deal with breakups in marriage. Saturn trans Saturn being placed there and going to that Dasha would bring bring up issues that maybe you hadn't looked at or faced. It will bring them out.
So Saturn being in the third house.
This could be where learning becomes more difficult if you're in school.
But it means you have to be more focused and more disciplined and through that, that will get you through tough times and make your life so much better. This is an opportunity for you to change what you've been doing. Because the third house, dealing with willpower, like, you got to focus and discipline, and then things really start coming together. Now, if you have any brothers or sisters, you may be an only child with Saturn being there or the youngest one. But if you have siblings, your relationship will become more difficult. And another thing is you may not have the freedom to travel the way you normally used to before you're stuck. You're grounded more. Because Saturn does third house does deal with travels. But be aware that your communications become more difficult and you've got to watch what you do and what you say. But this would be a great time to start journaling and writing because with Saturn here, the disciplinarian, you can heal and help yourself tremendously. Start journaling, start writing. When you go into Saturn's maha dasha.
If you have Saturn in the fourth house and you go into Saturn's maha dasha, yeah, this could be a move.
May not be because you want to move because Saturn, but Saturn also rules land. So it could be that it's time for you to purchase and buy land, move away, get out more in the country, be more to yourself. But Saturn also in the fourth house, if you go into that dasha, there could be problems for your family and especially your mother. There could be some, many, many changes for your mother that are very difficult. Plus going into Saturn's maha dasha with Saturn there in the fourth house, you never really had a great relationship, chances are with family or your mother. It's time to heal that. That's what Saturn will bring about, where you have to pay attention and work on things more.
So if you have Saturn in the fifth house and you go into Saturn's maha dasha, a focus will be around your children. There's something that you have got to start doing more with your children. And it is a focus. It is a major focus. And it's also a time that investments change. Don't be too.
Too crazy with trying to invest during this time. There could be some losses. Also Saturn, if you go into Saturn, it's in the fifth house many times. It's like when your Kids move out, empty nesters, that's what that could be all about. But it's a restriction around things and an ending around children. And usually that's what it means. They go away, they leave home, go to college.
Saturn in the fifth house can mean a big focus. Maybe it's time for you to really write a novel, a book. Fifth house does deal with that. And I think this would be the time, especially if you have exalted Saturn in the fifth house. It's time to really begin expressing yourself in a serious way, to telling your story. It's important.
If Saturn's in your sixth house and you go into Saturn's maha dasha, take care of your health. You could have some health issues depending on what sign and other planets are there. Saturn by itself though could mean you have the discipline to change your old habits, to improve your health through a new regime. Diet, exercise.
This is going to be what you have to do because you've got to get healthier when you go into Saturn's cycle. And maybe it's time for you in terms of changing jobs or changing employees or co workers, they're not going to be as helpful as you thought. So maybe you just need to go solo and, and not work so much with others. With Saturn in the sixth house.
It'S not a time to adopt a pet either. Let me just say it won't turn out well. If you go into Saturn's maha dasha and Saturn is in the seventh house, well, many people would think that means a breakup and it could. But don't forget, Saturn gives what we call digbalah. By being in the seventh house, it's actually its strongest placement and it brings to you a very powerful.
Partner that could give a sense of security. They could be older.
But it's actually a sense of security that comes from the partner. Now if there's issues that haven't been attested to, they will surface and you got to deal with them. Because remember, Saturn is about karma.
And it is healing. So you will have to heal issues around relationships and that even goes for business partnerships as well. Now, if your Saturn is in the eighth house and you go into Saturn's maha dasha.
There is some deep work you have to do. Research, analysis, get to the core and the bottom of emotions. What it is you need to heal. This is going to be.
For you.
Saturn in the 8th house though gives longevity. So maybe there's something that you're doing to change your diet for longevity. But Saturn in the eighth house.
Might be time.
To get Your taxes to get your money matters in order, organize it better. That's what that could be about. Because the eighth house is money through other people. Make sure you get your will in order. Not that you're going to need it anytime soon, but it's a good time to organize these type of things.
If you have Saturn in the ninth house and you go into Saturn's Maha Dasha, ninth house is all about your truth, your spirituality, and you're coming to terms with what you really believe. And yes, you've been very cynical about religion or things of that nature and that's fine. But your truth about spirituality comes out, not religion, quite different. If Saturn's in the ninth house, maybe there's a healing that you have to go through with your father, whether he's here or not. Because chances are your father wasn't easy to get along with. Maybe he was too strict or stern and it had its effects on you. Now it's time to heal those emotional responses around that. And with Saturn in the ninth house, you may start taking some courses. Will they be easy? No. But will they pay off? Yes, it will be hard, but worth the work. So go with it.
If Saturn is. Oh, and one more thing about the ninth house. If you have anything going on with.
Immigration, it may be delayed or set back. Now if Saturn is in your 10th house, Saturn loves to be in the 10th house. Actually, you will start doing extremely well with your work, hard working, your boss may change though. Your job could change, but it's going to change to something better. Just apply yourself with discipline, focus and diligence and Saturn will reward you greatly from this experience. Throughout this Saturn Dasha.
If you have Saturn in the 11th house, this is a time that you may pull away from friends, from groups you want to spend, spend more time alone. A lot of your friends may change. There'll be different, different groups that you feel like they've been a drain. You have nothing in common anymore and you're going to shift and change the groups and friends that you keep. And with Saturn in the 11th house, you don't have a ton of friends. You like to have very close few friends. You don't like a lot of acquaintances and a lot of noise. You want to have someone that, that you can depend on. And maybe that's where a dear close friend from the past comes up and really supports you. Now. If you have an older sibling, issues you have with them may come to the surface. You got to deal with it, you got to heal it. Some older friends will come into your life that will help guide you, that will help give you what you need to progress and grow.
With Saturn in the 12th house, you may have trouble sleeping. You gotta really practice some meditation, some kind of tools and techniques that help you rest better at night. And this is a time for you to go within and to heal any of the emotional issues that have caused you. Emotional concern from the past. Now it's time to recognize what they are, heal them, let them go. They're only hurting you to hold on to feelings about the past. Nothing you can do about it anymore. Let it go. And that's going to be an ultimate healing for you to let that go. And Saturn in the 12th, you move into Saturn. Yeah. You may end an old career. Many aspects of your life will change and come to an end and chances are it's time for that anyway. So with that I'd like to close. I hope if you're moving into Saturn Maha Dasha that it will be a wonderful healing, best time of your life and trust me, it very well could. As a matter of fact, I'm going to be entering my Saturn Maha Dasha in about three or four months, so we'll see how it goes. I do have an exalted Saturn in the fifth ruler of the night. I'm looking forward to Saturn's Maha Dasha. So with that I'd like to close. If you would like more information on me and don't forget to check out my beautiful astrological jewelry on my website.
