Planets in the Houses in Astrology: The Moon

A YouTube lecture by Joni Patry explaining the significance of the Moon in Vedic (sidereal) astrology and how the Moon's placement in each of the 12 houses shapes emotions, life cycles (dashas), relationships with parents and siblings, health inclinations, creativity, career/public recognition, social circles, and psychic/psychological tendencies. The speaker also references her books and online University of Vedic Astrology and directs viewers to free chart calculators on her websites.

Hi, I'm Joni Petrie and welcome to my YouTube channel. Well, today I want to continue on with talking about the different planets going through all 12 houses. And the most important planet that I think in Vedic astrology is the moon. The moon is what sets up our entire life cycles called the dashas. Wherever your natal moon is, according to what Nakshatra it's in, will determine your entire cycles of your life through the dasha system. It's an amazing tool for prediction. But before I start, please let me go over that. Everything I'm going over is in my book called Astrology, the Divine Order of the Universe. And let me just say this is all about the houses, the numbers, and how everything is in its divine order. Now, one more book I want to point out which is personal pertinent, I think, to all of this, is you'll find most everything in my textbook for my university, which is Eastern Astrology for Western minds. So I have this stellar school that's all online called the University of Vedic Astrology and that's my textbook. But all that I'm teaching here in these classes really does relate in greater depth beyond what you can imagine in my university. So check it out. It is universityofvedicastrology.com youm'll be glad you did and let me continue on with the power of the moon. I want to process the moon as it sits in all 12 houses. So you're going to want to figure out what house your moon sits in. And the way that you can do that is you'll have to go to my website to calculate your chart if you don't know it. We are talking about Vedic astrology, which uses the sidereal system, not western. So if you don't know where your moon is according to sign and house, check it out on my free chart calculator which is on my website, Galactic Center.org so the moon, as I said, the moon, is the mind, it's consciousness, and it sets up our whole life cycles and it particularly deals with our emotions, how we feel about things in life. So whatever sign, whatever house your moon's in, is imperative as to who you are. And you can always look at your moon according to what sign it's in and mark that as the Ascendant. We call that Chandra Lagna because the moon has that much importance. If you make it the first house and you look at where all your other natal planets are as well as where the planets are transiting, you'll have a very definitive idea as to what you're feeling and going through in life at the time that planets transit from the moon. But let's talk about from your ascendant, what house your moon resides in. So if your moon is in the first house, then you are ultra mega sensitive to everything in the environment. Everything you feel, you sense, you taste, you see, you hear more acutely than other people. You may not even realize it, but if you really talk around, you'll be amazed that people don't get what you get. Because you are highly sensitive. Now, sometimes with that degree of sensitivity going on, you may find that you're so sensitive that you have allergies. Where you're so sensitive, it's like it affects you really, really acutely. Everything in the environment, therefore, smells, stiff taste, things you eat, everything affects you. So you could have a high degree of sensitivity that could come through allergies in the environment. But the moon in the first house, I'll tell you, you are so sensitive, but you are so strong. Because the moon there gives great strength of character. But you're so strong.
That you would never let anyone know just how sensitive you really are and how you get your feelings hurt so, so very easily.
So I want you to be aware.
That it's okay to let people know when you're hurt, but you never will because you have that great degree of strength, but you know how deeply you feel. But just like the crab, as in cancer, the sign cancer, the crab is representative of it. You have that hard shell on you, and you won't let people know how soft you are underneath the surface, just as a crab is.
But one thing you do have to try to remember is to let go of things. Sometimes the crab will grasp on, hold on, and hold on to things all the way till it's death. So remember, by letting go is how you'll heal and make your life better. But it's a powerful placement to have the moon in the first house. Very powerful. So if your moon is in the second house, you've had a very sensitive and emotional upbringing. There was so much that went on in the home and the family. And it's really created idea that you have to find your own protection. And what that means is through your job, your career, how you make your money, you've got to find your own protection in this world where you can feel like you have security. That's what the moon in the second house is going to really deal with, a sense of needing security. And you will definitely seek and find that your mother might have been overly sensitive and Protective as you were a child, because the moon is the mother in the second house. It deals with family and the people around you as you're a child and growing up. And the moon definitely, definitely deals with a sense of security. So you're always seeking that. Maybe you didn't feel it as strongly as you should have and could have in childhood experience experiences, but you will seek and find that as an adult. But please be careful about the things you eat, because the second house deals with our mouth and what we consume. And you're highly sensitive to many foods. You may even have allergies to certain foods. Be careful, watch what you eat. Take note of how you feel when you eat certain things. That will help you tremendously.
And when you speak.
Please make sure that you aren't overly protective and sensitive, because sometimes you'll throw your emotions out as you speak, wearing your heart on your sleeve.
Now, the moon in the third house can deal with your quality of education, which you love to learn and. And you put your whole heart and soul into learning and your education.
And one thing that's really strong about you is your ability to memorize and retain things. Sometimes hold on to things too much. That's another issue of the moon, of holding on to things. But the moon is the light. It's a reflective force. And as it's in the third house, you reflect what you've learned and what you know. You give it out there in return. Now, when it comes to brothers and sisters, you probably more than likely have a sister. Or if you're strong, if your moon is extraordinarily strong by placement, by exaltation and such, you may be the youngest one of your family, but otherwise you'll have female siblings, and there is a deep connection with them. And there is some vivid karma.
That you have to work with that is highly emotional. Got to deal with these emotions. Excuse me. And your mother may even be involved in something like this, because the mother is probably very close to you by being in the third house. And the way that you communicate and pass on information is highly sensitive and emotional. As a matter of fact, this will make you very, very good in any forms of communication skills.
Now, if the moon is in the fourth house, you love your home, you love your family, and you're close to your mother.
Very unusual connection with the mother.
And you're always searching for security. And you find a deep sense of security in property, real estate, and your home. This is the fourth house. Plus, with it being in the fourth house, there may be. This is a Very spiritual house. You really, really want, need to retreat and find your solitude many, many times with the moon in the fourth house. But overall, the moon is the indicator for the fourth house. It's a karika. So this is a very, very good place to have your moon. And it's solid, it's great. So if your moon is in the fifth house.
You are vastly creative and you will find the need to create, make things, even businesses, anything to do with creation you love. But one thing I have found, this isn't always the case, but I have found numerous times that when the moon is in the fifth house, the person can have just one child. And I've heard from individuals that have the moon in the fifth house, they say, I just can't imagine loving another child as much as I do this one. I can't have another one. And that's what happens many times, not all the time, but I've seen it.
The fifth house is children and what we create. And generally it can be a female child, the first one can be a girl. But the fifth house, in terms of intelligence, gives this incredible mind that comes up with stories, creations, and people will come to you for your advice because you are considered the great advisor.
And both the moon in the fourth house and the fifth house deals with love and attention and receiving and giving love. But even so, it gives a remarkable memory to have the moon in either the fourth or the fifth houses.
Now, if the moon is in the sixth house, this is the house that deals with health and healing and it actually deals with the digestive tract. And I find more than not, people that have a moon in the sixth house have digestive problems because the moon actually rules the star stomach. And being in the fifth house gives digestive upsets and problems. So you gotta watch what you eat. But the moon in the fifth means you're a hard worker and you love to be involved in issues around health and healing and most of all, helping people. You would be an enormously wonderful counselor to be healing and helping people, giving them guidance. You love to, to guide people, to heal people and to help people. That's a beautiful placement for the moon. Just watch what you eat if your moon is in the seventh house. Relationships are vitally important and you will put them first above any of your own desires and needs, because it's more important to you to make the other person happy. And that's what you do. So if you have a partner, though, that is very fluctuating and changing in their ideas, their thoughts and their emotions, it will Be a problem because you want security. But here you are attracted to somebody who has a fleeting mind and changes their mind and opinions and emotions quite rapidly and that will bother you. So the moon in the seventh house can give very tight close relationships, but at the same time they can be problematic because the moon is the planet that moves the fastest and represents where fluctuation and change is most relevant in our life. The moon in the eighth house. It can definitely mean that there are major emotional issues throughout life and problems with the mother. Remember, the moon is the mother and if you put it in the eighth house, the mother usually has a difficult life. It doesn't always relate to difficulty with the mother, but it will relate to that. The mother's had a very difficult life and emotionally there's need for things, therapy and consultation.
And psychoanalysis with the moon in the eighth house. One way or another, this is going to be one of the things that you're drawn to the most. Psychology, research, analysis, wanting to figure out why something is the way it is. This is what you're all about. Discovering how to, to delve into who you really are. And the moon in the eighth house will give you incredible psychic intuitive powers. So use them wisely.
If you have the moon in the ninth house, there's this emotional attachment to the father and you have a high degree of sensitivity towards what you believe, your spiritual interest and your truths, what you're going to be doing with your life. There's an intense need to travel extensively around the world just as well as the moon being in the third house, one will travel extensively as well as one with the moon in the ninth house will travel even more extensively because it's long distance travel around the world. But the moon in the ninth house will draw one to higher education learning teachers and maybe even come to the point where they become the teacher. So if the moon is in the 10th house, well, the 10th house is the public in your reputation. And the moon can represent the masses, the public. And it's been said that the moon in the 10th house can represent someone that has notoriety or fame, recognition, and whatever field that they are.
In their life, whatever their field of expertise is, they will be well known in their area or even far and wide. But the moon gives you public recognition in the 10th plus it makes you really involved in your work and your career. You love what you do and you're passionate about it and you will most probably be the boss. And if you're not, you will probably end up working for women. That's the Case of the moon in the 10th. So if your moon is in the 11th house, that's a house of groups, friends and organizations. And yes, you will be very popular with the moon in the 11th house, but you don't let a lot of those people into your life. It's more like you have so many acquaintances, but not that many. Really, really close friends.
So as everyone thinks, oh, she's got so many friends, or he's got so many friends, but essentially they're all superficial acquaintances, not all of them, I take that back, but most of them. And they all circle around you and you're friendly, you're nice, you're sociable, but you don't let a lot of them in, not into your heart and soul where you share your intimate feelings. Only a few experience that. So you'll be part of a lot of groups and organizations and possibly even be the head of some. These are organizations that you feel passionate about. And you could have an older sibling and guess what, it'd be a sister. But in many cases, if the moon is very strong, by sign, you're the oldest one. But in the instances that you're not, usually you'll have an older sister. And they can be very complicated at times, very changeable. Now, the moon in the 12th house, this would make you very intuitive, very psychic, very aware, and you would probably have very prophetic dreams. So pay attention. That's where you really come alive. Your subconscious mind reflects the day and you can get so much information.
The moon in the 12th house can also deal with the fact that you don't really know how to let go of the past. You remember everything.
And in these remembrances, sometimes it's hard to let go of the hurts that you've experienced in the past. But this is exactly what can hold you back. Pay attention.
And also the moon being in the 12th house can represent that the mother's had a difficult life. It's been trying, there's been great losses for the mother. The 12th house does represent loss. So on some level you feel the emotional loss and, and connection to your mother, feel her pain and the loss, plus the losses that you've endured throughout your life as well. So with that, I'd like to close.
