Planets in the Houses of Astrology: The Sun

A short instructional YouTube lecture by Joni Patry explaining the astrological meaning of the Sun in each of the 12 houses from a Vedic astrology perspective. The Sun is described as the soul's light, a karaka for the father, and a central life focus; Patry gives house-by-house practical traits (e.g., Sun in 1st: leadership/strong ego; 2nd: focus on wealth; 5th: creative power and possible firstborn son; 10th: career/leadership).

Hi, I'm Joni Petrie and welcome to my YouTube channel. Well, today I want to talk about a new series where I'm going to cover all the planets through the houses. And I thought I might start with this one with the sun because everyone is associated with the sense and the power of the sun. So before I start with all of this, I just want everyone to know that all of this is contained within my book on the houses. And it is astrology, the divine order of the universe. And one more book I'd like to point out is my textbook from my university, which is Eastern astrology for Western minds. Now I have a university where if you're really interested in learning Vedic astrology, join this university. You will learn personally from me and you will join our community of incredible astrologers. And we empower you to be an astrologer yourself. So starting with the sun, the sun is our sense of power, it's our spirit, it is our light, it's our life force. So the sun really is how we put our energy out into the world. This is like the sun is what illuminates the world. It puts the energy out there. And that's what we're talking about with when we're born, when whatever time of year we're born in, we all have the same sun, our birthday. So you know, we're looking at Western astrology all the time. Everyone knows their sun sign. But Vedic astrology, remember, it's going to fall back. Not quite a whole sign, but almost a whole sign. So check out on my website to see exactly where your sun is. You, with my free chart calculator, you can calculate, you'll see your chart, you'll know what house it's in. And from this vantage point, you will better recognize what I'm talking about. So go to my website and do the free chart calculator to see what, what house and what sign your son actually is in Vedic astrology. My website Is GalacticSign Center.org and look up, click free chart calculator and calculate your chart. So I want to talk about the sun in terms of your energy, your light, your power. Actually, I look at the sun as the spirit because where is that element of light that gives us life? That's the sun, that is our spirit.
So wherever the sun is in the chart will be a major focus throughout your life. Another thing I want you to understand is the sun is also the karaka for the father. So however it's placed in accordance to being with other planets in one house. Will tell you somewhat about your relationship with. With your father, for sure. So the sun, let's process it through all 12 houses to get a better feel of how you operate from your source of light and being and your soul essence, that is the sun. So if you have the sun in the first house, first house is you. It is your.
Your personality. It's really the essence of your physical body. How you appear, how you look, how you carry yourself. Personality, that's the first house. So if you have the sun in the first house, then that means you're going to be extraordinarily strong. You're going to know what you want, what you're here to do. You're very purposeful, meaningful. You can be a little unconscious of other people's needs and wants because the focus is on you. You know what you want, you go after it. And you're a high achiever. But sometimes you gotta look and help other people around you because it's not that you don't care, it's just. It never occurs to you because you're so focused on manifesting your goals, being who you are self, so determined, so strong, so powerful. You forget other people are around and need your help sometimes. But the sun in the first house, it gives you a strong drive, momentum. It's like the sun is the one who leads in power. The sun is naturally affiliated to the sign Leo. So this is your leadership qualities, which you are that the leader. You're going to fight for what you believe in. Now, sometimes when the sun's in the first house, they say the first house, the head. And the sun is so hot and fiery that wherever it is, it kind of burns everything. It does. So when you put the sun in a house, because we can't even look at the sun, it burns a hole in that house. So they say that people, this isn't always going to be true, but people that have the sun in the first house, their hair's thin or they bald early because it burns the head.
So with that, let's move to the second house. The sun in the second house. One thing I want people to recognize too, the sun in Vedic astrology is actually a malefic. I don't know if that's because it gets so hot in India, but I think it's because we actually can't look at the sun. It hurts our eyes. So it's too much. Wherever it is in a chart in the second house, it'll give you power and sense to achieve and acquire wealth and money.
But sometimes they can burn a hole in your pocket. You've got to spin. It's too much.
The sun in the second house, it is a mild malefic. Remember that. And it can have its effects on childhood experiences, on the effects of maybe the father was over.
Dominating when you were a child. It's just a high focus of energy and it's not always necessarily good. But you will have the goal, the momentum and the desire to make money, because money is a means of security for you. And that is going to be one of your focuses to be looking at financial gains through wealth and money and through family. But remember, the sun can overpower these things too much. Keep it easy. Now let's go to the third house. What if your son is in the third house? The third house is all about school, education, learning, communications and siblings. If you have a son in the third house, you may have an overly dominant brother or sister that is too much. They have to be the center of attention all the time. And you're just going to have to surrender that. That's never going to change. You've got to deal with their needs, their ego. The sun is the ego. So being in the third house, it can affect siblings and especially the sun is male energy. For it to be in the third house, you may have a brother, you might have a brother that needs your constant attention.
But another thing is the sun in the third house makes you love school and learning. And that's going to be one of your focuses throughout your life. Always learning, always looking for a new place to go, traveling, even commuting, you're always on the move. So if the sun is in the fourth house, this can be a mother that's a little overbearing, overruling too much. Remember, we can't actually look at the sun. It's too bright. Hurts our eyes. But being in the fourth house, one of the things that gives you a sense of power and security will be real estate, property and having a home. Home life is the focal point of your life. It's vitally important because maybe your home life wasn't what you wanted it to be while you were a child, but because of that, because of that, you strive to find a happy home in the second part of life.
So if you have a son in the fifth house, chances are your firstborn will be a boy. Not always, but most of the time. This is true. The son is a mild malefic. You will have a child that is very powerful, very strong, but demands a lot of attention. But they will be leaders. Yes, Your children will be leaders put into a place of leadership. Absolutely, for sure. And the sun in the fifth house gives enormous creative power and ability. Because realize the sun is relative to Leo. It naturally rules Leo. And the fifth house is.
Relative to the fifth sign, Leo. So the sun really prospers in a creative, poignant way in the fifth house. It gives good karma. Remember, the fifth house is called Puva Punya. Past life. Good credit due in this lifetime. And the sun there means you're blessed. You have talent, enormous talent and intelligence. So with that, I'd like to move to the sixth house. If you have a sun in the sixth house, you're always drawn to health and healing and helping people. A service industry, usually. But in the sixth house, the sun there can mean.
You. You need to really focus in on your work and how you work. And this is a way for you to really look at the kind of careers you should go into. So many times with the sun being there, the sun is bright and shining there. You're going to want to go into a field that deals with health or healing. Maybe a nurse or a doctor, something to that effect. That will be a focal point. If not, you're always drawn to reading about subjects, about how to make yourself healthier, get well.
Your health is vitally important. And with the sun being there, you're very strong. You have a good, strong, powerful immune system and a great constitution. So if you have the sun in the seventh house, your focus will be about relationships and love and marriage. But.
Look out, your partner will be domineering, they will be domineering. They will be a little bit controlling. They have to be the center of attention. You got to stand back because that light is way too strong for you to look at. Kind of goes back into the whole mythology about the sun in Ashwini, which I won't go into right now. But for my students, they know that.
The sun's wife couldn't look at the sun.
Had to go away. And he became fascinated with her shadow. Chaya. So this is very symbolic of the sun being in the seventh house, where the partner is over the top. Too much energy to deal with.
So just let them shine. They have their ego, they have their strength. And I'm sure they're good providers.
So if your son is in the eighth house, well, the eighth house is a very difficult house. And this can actually take away, to a certain degree, some of the vitality. But then again, it can deal with length of life. So if the sun is strong in the eighth house, it Will give length of life live long. But the sun in the eighth house is. Can deal with some treacherous things such as maybe abuses or dealing with some psychological issues throughout life or that you are really into research, analysis and you find the answers. Nobody can find even a scientific mind. But it's not a good placement representing the father. Because remember, the sun being the father, being in the eighth house, he can have some dark issues and there can be some major, major problems. The sun in the eighth house can also represent that you may have a partner that spends too much money, burns a hole in the pocket. Why do I say that the 8th is the 2nd from the 7th and therefore it's your partner's money. The sun is so bright there. Yes, they have the capability to achieve and gain money. But they may burn it.
So if the sun is in the ninth house, the ninth house deals with the father. And actually when you put the karaka of a particular house in that house.
The ninth house is father. The sun is the father. It's actually not good. So it makes the father overbearing, over demanding, but powerful.
But the ego is so strong. But as for yourself, you love to learn and school education is a burning desire for you. And I want to say definitely beyond the shadow of a doubt, the sun in the ninth house. Someone that becomes a teacher or world traveler, always learning, always looking for something higher, very spiritual and very much a part of righteousness, rules and laws. This is the ninth house. Now if you have the sun in the tenth house, you are a business person. You love your career, you love your work and you should be the boss. Do not work for other people. If you have the sun in the 10th house, you don't take orders from others very well. It's time for you.
To form your own business. You're the leader, you're the one in command. This is what the sun in the 10th house gives you. This means you're born sometime close to noon in the middle of the day. The sun is at the mid haven at that time. Time. And you're a leader. And you are meant to do your own thing. Not take orders from others, do your own work and form your own business. Or either be in a business where you work for yourself. That's the best and you're very successful at it.
Now if your son is in the 11th house, the 11th house deals with our groups, friends, organizations and powerful people at that. So if the sun is in the 11th house, you will know a lot of influential and powerful people in your lifetime. Friends are always going to be important variable of your life. But you tend to attract those that have to be the center of attention. You got to stand back and let them shine. The sun in the 11th house means you want to be a part of humanitarian efforts. And you will be put into positions of leadership in these areas. You may have an older sibling. Most likely it could be a brother. The sun is male energy and they are dominant and they take control. But then again, sometimes when you have really powerful planets in the 11th House, such as the sun may mean you're the oldest. The sun in the third house may mean you are the youngest. But if not, you'll have male siblings. In the third or the 11th, you'll have a brother.
If the sun is in the 12th house. You need your time alone. You need your solitude. You need to pull away from the world and retreat. This is where you regain your life. You regain your light. You recharge by being alone. It's very, very important that your solitude is taken seriously now. The sun. Sun is a little overwhelming, remember? And being in the 12th house, it can disturb your sleep. You could wake up, you just can't sleep soundly through the night, or you have a hard time getting to sleep.
You don't want to retire, you're on the go, you're always burning the candle at both ends. And sleeping time.
Is not easy to come by. But it is so good for you to get away. Even on vacations. Take some time off to recharge your batteries by finding that time alone. And many times you do spend a lot of time alone because.
You'Re always working on something. And it takes that alone time to really get the job done done, such as writing, such as papers, such as studies. You need to be alone to accomplish and do these things. But most of all, the 12th house does deal with spirituality. And this is an important aspect of your life to feel the connection with the divine, which that is your burning desire and that is, is an achievement you will have in this life. So with that, I'd like to close. This covers the sun being in all 12 houses. I hope that you've really gained and gleaned some new insight as to how these planets will operate as they are in each and every house in a horoscope.
