Hi, my name is Joni Petrie and welcome to my YouTube channel. Well, today I'm continuing on with my series of the secrets of the houses using Bavap Bavam and the derivative house system, how all the houses really do connect to each other and how they derive their meanings. But I thought today I'd start with the first house that is probably the most important house of a chart, because it is you. It is who you are. So before I start, got to tell you, everything is in this book. This is the book I wrote on the houses called Astrology, the divine order of the universe. And don't forget my textbook from my university. You can purchase this if you are really interested in learning Vedic astrology. It is the easiest to comprehend for a Westerner. That's why I named it Eastern Astrology for Western minds. So with it, let's talk about what is the first house. Since it is the Ascendant, it's what sets up your whole chart. And the way that this works is.
It deals with when you come into this world, it's your birth. And really, planets that are around the first house or in the first house can represent your entrance into the world. I find it so interesting that the first house rules the head. When you go into the body parts of each house, it starts from the head, the first house, all the way around the body to the feet, which is the 12th house. But remember, we are supposedly in most cases, born head first, right? So that makes sense that this is our birth, our entrance into the world. So your time of birth according to what time you're born is what actually sets up your whole chart. It's what determines what sign is rising on the eastern horizon. At your time of birth is your Ascendant. And each Ascendant, well, not to get into the whole astronomy, but each ascendant rises for two hours on the eastern horizon. So go figure. There's 12 signs, therefore 24 hours in a day. But the first house, if you have Mars on the first house, it could mean that you came into the world very fast or you were delivered by C section. Mars rules knives many times this is true. And also when you see Saturn on this, and it may be, you know, your birth was like, you were delayed a few weeks and your mother was like, when is this baby ever going to come? Because in Saturn, being in the first house would mean you're very mature. You're like an old soul. You are always wanting to take care of everyone else because this is who you are. Remember, the first House is who you are. The first house is a Kendra, an angle. And it's probably the most powerful one aside from the 10th house. But it's like you and everything about who and what you are.
The sign that's in the first house depicts your qualities of who you are. And planets in the first house depict many instances of who and what you are.
So besides it being the beginning, it also can deal with your personality, how you perceived by the world, how you come off to the world. Are you fiery? Is there a fire sign there?
Are you more into material comforts with an earth sign? With a water sign? Are you more sensitive, emotional? With an air sign? Are you a thinker? Are you always thinking and processing information or communicating? That's another quality of who you are by the element that's in the first house. So the planet that rules your first house, I consider that the most important planet of your chart. Why I call it your chart ruler. It rules your ascendant and wherever it resides, tells you what will be your interest on and off throughout your life. So you see, the first house determines everything. It also determines by your ascendant what planets rule each of your houses. So it creates the whole setup which what planets are good or what planets are not good. So with the first House, I always say it serves double duty. And what that means is it is an angle, which is also. We call it the Kendra houses, which are the most powerful. When you have planets in the Kendras, those planets stand out. They're of major importance in your life. So it is a Kendra, but it's also, like I said, double duty. It also serves as a triconal house. And the Triconal houses are the most blessed houses of all. So the planets that rule the triconal houses are your lucky planets. And what are the triconal houses? Well, it's, you know, it's kind of like the word trine, but it. But they are going to be the houses that are considered dharma, purposeful, inspirational, because it's relative to what the fire signs. And so the triconal houses are 1, 5 and 9. And the first house is relative to the first sign, which is Aries. And Aries is always seen as the sign of new beginnings, new starts, the pioneer in life, the one who's not afraid to jump in and do things that nobody else would think to do. So it is the pioneer, it is the beginner. The first house is our beginnings. But it is actually your personality and who you are, what you represent, what you're into. And as I was going on with. So if you consider the Dharma houses, which are the ones that deal with inspiration and drive, they're relative to the fire signs, which the first house relative to the first sign, Aries fire. The fifth house is relative to the fifth sign, which is Leo fire. And the ninth house is relative to the ninth sign, which is Sagittarius, the fire signs. So the first house is in this category, plus it is also a Kendra. So putting that together, that would mean an angle in a trine together represents power. It's almost like. Not exactly, but it's almost like it's the Raja Yoga House, because angle and a trine at the same time. So the planet that rules that house is going to be your chart ruler. It's what you're into, who you are, what you do. You got a Gemini ascendant, you got a Virgo Ascendant, Mercury rules it. You're all about learning, thinking, riding, traveling, everything to do with gathering information.
So if you have Mars, if you're Aries or Scorpio, Mars rules your Ascendant. And Mars is the. Is the doer. It's the energy, it's the vivaciousness, it's power. It can be athletic, but with Scorpio, it's going to be more inner than outer. So if you have Sagittarius or Pisces, Jupiter is the ruler of your chart. And that's the teacher, that's the learned one, that's the one that's a philosopher, the philanthropist, the traveler, the adventurer. That's what that will be. But when you look at. Then you take it down to the next quality. Like, for example, when you're looking at Sagittarius or Pisces, you got the fire of Sagittarius, but the water of Pisces. So even though the ruling planet does take effect, the qualities are tempered by the element you see. So if you have Venus ruling your Ascendant, then that means you're either Taurus or Libra ascendant. And Venus is always about an appreciation for beauty, for grace, charm, luxuries, sensitivity. In this area, that's going to be the Venusian quality of Venus rulership. But with Taurus, it's going to be more about material things. With Libra, it's more about artistic and possibly having something to do with connections on social events, those type of things. So you see how this plays. Planet that takes in the ruler of the first house is so important. Leo Ascendants, the sun rules it. They are the leader. They're not a Follower, they want to be in charge. Cancer Ascendants, they're hypersensitive, even though they come off as incredibly strong. And a Cancer Ascendant is a very strong Ascendant. So this is just so interesting when you really think about the Ascendant and the First House. Planets in the First House really temper your who you are. The sun in the First House. You're all about your purpose and what you want. The Moon in the First House. Very sensitive in feeling. Venus in the First House. Skill and artistic and probably very, very social. Has social skills. And we'll go through all the planets in the houses in the next series. But this is the importance. The First House and the first house ruler can never ever be an enemy to you because it's who you are. The First House, never forget that sets up everything in your chart.
