If you're like many businesses today, you can pretty easily identify your top customers and top products. Unfortunately, many reporting solutions stop there when it comes to digging deeper into customer demographics. And that's too bad, because top buyers and top sellers should be just the beginning of demographical analytics. What's the makeup of your top buyers? Are they predominantly men or women? Do they fall into a particular age group? And once a customer purchases a product from you, what are the chances that they'll purchase again? These are examples of drill down demographics. They let you go beyond basic analytical data and look for indicators, exceptions and anomalies from which you can derive superior insight about your business. Consider the current dashboard showing three drill down demographics on the left. Note how each of them is overlaid onto a map of North America showing the geographic distributions of the age, gender, and loyalty. The right side of this dashboard also digs deeper, but here it's a logistical drill down, one that gives insight into the placement of products within your stores. And note, this display works both for brick and mortar stores, as it does for virtual web stores. Particularly useful here is the ability to access underlying metrics simply by cursoring over the KPI you want additional details on. For example, we can cursor over various age demographics to get the actual revenue generated by that demographic. Likewise, we can use the charts on the right to analyze the impact of product placement in our stores. For example, it looks like some recent repositioning of certain products on the walls of our stores has resulted in a considerable increase in revenues. It's results like this that are worth replicating. And with data self analytics, such key performance indicators don't go unnoticed.
