Joshua Fraser compares roadmapping tools like Jira, Trello, and Asana, then walks through a month-by-month template with design, product design, and market testing phases. He shows how to layer roadmaps on OKRs and build annual client-specific roadmaps using feature prioritization to reduce churn.

Product development is a massive thing. Depending on the industry that you're in, these are things that might be valuable to you. Product roadmap and planning Jira is a very technical product for software engineers. Trello or Asana is more of a task management thing. But you can build out product roadmaps which are basically like, in month one, we're going to design the products, get the mock ups for the website, and then month two, we're actually going to design the product and what it's going to look like when the customer gets it. And then month three, we're going to start market testing it. And this can go along with your okrs, but they're just another layer that you can really measure the process of what's happening in your product roadmap. One of the things that we would give out annually to our larger customers was this is what we're going to be developing in the next year. What are the most important features that you want us to add to the product that will add the most value to you? And we really tailored it towards our largest clients because we wanted to ensure that they were happy and that they weren't going to churn and they were going to stay with us for a long time. So having a roadmap, depending on what industry you're in, is extremely valuable.
