Jay Willis with Mometrix and Sophie Freeman with MDA join me now to talk about a special partnership between Mometrix and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Welcome, you guys. Thank you. Jay, for people who might not know, what does Mometrix do?
Mometrix offers test preparation materials for over 1,000 different standardized exams like SAT, ACT, GED, GRE, anything you can think of.
All right, so I know a lot of seniors who are probably going to be trying to get prepared. So, but MDA is close to your heart, and you every year you do a fundraiser for them. Tell us how and why you got started in this.
It actually wasn't my decision. The owners of the company have been very supportive to our family, and back about 3 years ago, they have started sponsoring me to raise money, and we donate a percentage of sales to go toward neuromuscular research for MDA.
And you have a personal—
Right, right. Our son, we found out when he was 2 years old that he has spinal muscular atrophy, which is a form of muscular dystrophy. So it's very personal.
And so how old is he now?
He's 7, 7 and a half.
So how's he doing?
He's doing well. It's a progressive disorder, so you know, it started off as a normal childhood up until he was 2, and then we, you know, there's a gradual progression of the disorder.
So your company has first started by sponsoring you, and now they do this fundraiser every year. And how much, Sophie, how much money did they raise this year?
This year, Mommetrix has donated $10,100 to MDA. We're really excited about that. We can't thank Jay and Mommetrix enough. Enough for that.
Well, how is that money and the other monies that you guys raise throughout the year, how does that help people like Jay's son?
Well, we have about 300 local families in the Southeast Texas area, and we're really pushing towards research. So research is number one, and also making our families' lives more comfortable through clinic visits. We have a great clinic in Houston. We also have equipment loan programs. We have a lot of great things to offer for our families.
Okay, so, and this is, you do this every year, you're planning on doing it again, right? And the month— do you have a month set yet?
August.
August. Month of August, look for that. And I'm sure Sophie will let me know about that. Absolutely. All right, thank you so much for coming, and thank you for what you do for MDA. That's awesome. Thank you.
