Life in Canada: STOP! That shiny, white snow is Black Ice!

Kaberi Dutta Chatterjee warns about black ice forming on Canadian roads and sidewalks during winter. At -7°C and sunny, the shiny white snow is actually a dangerous layer of hardened ice that causes slipping. She describes local conditions and plans to cover different types of snow in future videos.

Hi, my friends. How are you doing? Sorry, I haven't been posting a video for a long time. Look at the snow. Look at the snow and the. Did you see? Do you see those shiny areas near the car? They are all black ice. You can't walk on them. It's all black ice because this temperature has when the snow fell, the temperature was minus something and and the temperature was minus something and then when And then the temperature rose and the snow melted on top. And then again the temperature froze, went down. So all that thing, all the shiny thing over there on the snow is actually just ice. So you cannot even walk on it, you'll slip and fall. That's called black ice. While we are shooting for the winter, I would like to tell you different kinds of ice and different kinds of snowfall in this country. It's very cold. I cannot stand here because I'm not wearing a jacket. But it's a wonderful sunny day. The sun is really nice. It's probably -7 or something now. But the snow has hardened, and the snow is going to slowly harden. And if the snowplowers don't come in today to plow the snow out, it's going to— I think they came in, but they haven't been able to scrape it out. The snow has stuck to the ground. So it will just have to— we have to just wait for it to melt. And this is the my favorite tree now gone. You see, the leaves are all now gone. That's my favorite tree, and everything is now bare. Just compare this video with the last one I showed you and see how bare it is now. But it's it's in a way it's beautiful. Now the snow has come and the sun is up. If the sun is up, actually it's not so gloomy here. If the sun is down, then it's very gloomy, you know. So it basically depends on the light, and the sun is now up, so it's pretty cheerful though. And temperature is about -7, but I don't— I'm not feeling that cold. So I'm just covering my face because it is— it's slightly cold, like slightly Uh, I'm— my face is susceptible to cold. Okay, and this car particularly over here, I don't know when it's going to be used in the near future. It's almost a cake. And there's something— I just walked on it. What kind of a mark is that? Paw marks? Are they paw marks? Strange. Can you see those marks on the top of the car? Are they paw marks? I cannot make out. The slight fluffy snow on this side is fun to walk on, but that shiny snow— God, I'll never, I'll never ask you to walk on them. The moment you step on them, you'll freeze and fall. You just fall. They will take a long time to melt because they become hard as, hard as rocks. Now this is going to be the trouble. I'm going to show you how the snow piles up on this part of the area. Slowly the snow will pile on and there'll be a layer. First there'll be a layer of hard rock and then there'll be snow, then there'll be a layer of hard rock and it'll go on through the winter. It's just November. There's a dog, a person walking a dog. And you have to pick up dog poops here, right? You have, you have boxes like that over there, so you can just throw your poop in that box. There's another box in between those 2 cars. Can you see that? Um, I can't. I don't know whether you can see that. So you have to throw the poop directly into that box only, specifically into that box. You cannot throw anywhere else. And this— it's a lovely, beautiful sky. You cannot imagine the sky. Underneath this sky, this world is completely white. So if this begins, the snow begins, it will melt again and it will come back, and weather will rise and fall— temperature, sorry, temperature will rise and fall, and this will continue. So hope to see you again. And yeah, we'll talk about different types of snow and different types of winter, different kinds of winter season, different kinds of our mood during winter. I'll talk to you about it. Okay, see you. Bye-bye.
