Life in Lockdown: My son's new Moka Pot

In this informal home vlog recorded during the COVID‑19 lockdown, the creator walks viewers through a coffee‑making session using her son’s newly acquired Sony Handycam to film the process. She introduces the coffee beans (Three Sisters Kicking Horse), compares a hand grinder with an electric grinder, and assembles a stainless‑steel moka pot (identified as a Grosch model with a distinctive wooden handle). While the pot brews on a pre‑heated cast‑iron pan, she comments on the aroma, the visual of the coffee, and the surrounding setting, including Indian and Canadian flags displayed in the background. The vlog also reveals production challenges: the Handycam’s battery dying, the creator’s impatience, and her plans to edit the footage later. Throughout, she mixes English with Hindi, shares personal reflections about lockdown life, and maintains a conversational, slightly self‑deprecating tone.

Hi guys, I hope you're having a good morning. It's a very bright morning sunshine in Canada. I'm going to show you something very interesting. Okay, okay, let's go this way. Yeah, it's the camera. This is a new machine I'm operating. This is a Sony Handycam which belongs to my son. This is what he got over the lockdown period. He just got it from the— from Amazon. This is Three Sisters Kicking Horse Coffee. Okay, they're coffee beans. And if I can get to open this— I can, I think I can get to open this. Why does it go out of focus? So I'm opening this and here are the coffee beans. Can you see them? Ah, that's like real good coffee beans. It's like so pretty, they're like gold. Okay, so this is the coffee beans. And yeah, he has started grinding in a mocha pot, which is something very exciting which we got from Amazon. This is my son. He doesn't like to be videotaped, so I'm not going to waste him. This is a mocha pot. This is not a mocha pot. That's the hand grinder. So how do you do that? How do you do that? You put coffee beans inside this. Okay, you open this and you put coffee beans. One teaspoon of coffee. Where's the teaspoon? Here. Here is this teaspoon. So this this is the one teaspoon of coffee beans. He puts it in the grinder and he this is hand grinder. We have a perfectly good grinder, but he we have a perfectly good grinder. Here is one grinder. So underneath, but he will go for a hand grinder. This is the electric grinder. And he likes to go for a hand grinder and he's already made a cup of coffee. And now he's pouring it into the— this is called the moka pot. That's a very interesting pot. So much of coffee into the strainer. There is a strainer part and there is a water part. Okay, that part you put water in it and that's the strainer through which the vapor will actually— and he's filling that with water. You're both wearing black. And he's filled it up with water. Okay, and he's gonna put the moka kettle on top, and that has a very interesting device. I'll just show you very soon. That has a very good device. And here is a preheated pan, like you can put— and this is the device, okay. So this is where the coffee will come out from this sprout. Just keep watching. It's going to be so interesting. The coffee is getting— this pan is getting heated. So it's like preheated pan, the cast iron pan, and the switch is on. So this was preheated, and then this is going to heat the bottom. This is made up of aluminium, some kind of aluminium metal which is resistant to heat. So this is the process. And this coffee, okay, let's cover it for a while. And when you hear the noise sound, I'll come back and show you. You don't need to cover. You don't need to cover? Okay, great. So we can see it coming up. Okay, you can. That's the noise of that other kettle, which is making some hot water for some reason. This is the mocha pot. It's called the mocha pot. What is the name of the pot? There was a name somewhere. Yeah, if you want guys get this. It's called Grosch. What? Grosch? Grosch. Grosch. It's called Grosch. Okay, Grosch. I suppose that's S G R O S C H. Grosch. Grosch. Okay, Grosch. I'm terrible at designer stuff and but I like this. What I like this about this moka cup is this wooden handle and the wooden knob. It's so interesting and it looks nothing like anything. Like, we have a kettle, we have a jug— what? That's not a jug, that's a kettle. This is not a kettle, this is a saucepan. And we have so many other things. This is— this doesn't even— You can leave this open to see them. Yes, of course, I will definitely leave them open. And, uh, he's making this coffee for me. It's going to take some time. So meanwhile, I'll just show you around. Oh, the weather! And yeah, don't tell anybody I've got all. The— it's so frustrating. The battery went down for this new device that I'm recording in. It's not new. I'll tell you a big story about this device that had got lost in India. This is the COVID so you'll know what it is. It's a Sony Handycam. So it's very old. So I just kind of dug it out because my phone quality is not good. So anyway, where were we? When I was just recording the sprout, you know, the coffee and the moka pot, and the battery went down. So I don't didn't have the energy to record again. So I'm just going to have the coffee and I'll just show you. I hope the battery doesn't go again because it's on charging point. So I have to carry it around like this. And this is the coffee my son made for me. It's it's I think it's he put cream. He put I can't even open it now with one hand. Okay, let me just check it out for you guys. Smells good. Smells delicious, like heaven. I've never smelled coffee like this ever before, ever before. Smells so good. And Canada flag, you can see that? Yeah, I'll just show you. I hope I can I can't move this camera because it's on charge, but I'm too impatient to record the video. I'm really impatient. So I'll just show you a thing. Yeah, you can see this is an Indian flag and that is the Canada flag. I can't reach it. Oh no, I'm going to drop it. I'm going to drop it. I did. I did. I did. That's gone out of my— this is the Canada flag. I wanted a smaller Indian flag, but then I couldn't get a smaller one. My sister-in-law gave me this, this big one. My motherland, always blessing me. Nice. Okay, all right, so, okay, so I'll let you guys go now and, uh, I'll try to join these 2 if I find a good software, editing software. And anyway, you didn't get to see the how the coffee came out of the sprout. You have to just imagine it because I'm— I don't have the patience to make another video of this. In fact, let me tell you, this was the second video I was making. First one went— I didn't even press the record button. So I'm pretty bad. I'm very bad at this. But I don't know, I just like talking to you. And yeah, I'll— we'll see again. Watch out.
