3 Timeless Kitchen Upgrades I'd Steal from deVOL | Kanika Design

Kanika Bakshi Khurana walks through deVOL's Bath showroom to share three kitchen upgrades: anchor the space with one striking piece like a copper-topped island, design it as a room to linger in with seating and a fireplace, and choose finishes you can easily refresh so it ages well.

Hi guys, we're in Bath in Devol Kitchen at the moment. They have some really nice stuff. I want to browse around and show you some really fascinating things we can have in our kitchens in the US. Everyone wants a kitchen that doesn't date, but how do you actually get one? It's not just a look you buy off a shelf, it's a set of choices you make. And honestly, walking through this store, I picked up a few ideas you could use And one bigger lesson that ties them all together. Let me show you. This table right here is referred to as a dairy table. From the past, they would have these galleys here and a hole here, like, you know, you're making your yogurt or something, and then it would go down to your bucket. But in today's world, it's a great prep table. So anyone who likes to bake or cook, This is amazing. Oh, this is a really nice marble top, real oak. Let's walk into a kitchen that has black cabinets. I know it's not for everyone, but keep an open mind. It's gorgeous. Let's go. Let's start with this beautiful island with the black and copper top countertops. I couldn't believe these are copper. Like, yes, they looked copper to me, but I had to come real close, touch and feel, and it doesn't even feel like copper. It's treated very well, and it complements the black cabinets very well. I love this island, this beautiful oak wood on top. It just complements so well with the green. On the bottom. And that's the first idea right there. One strong piece like this island can set the tone for the entire kitchen. You don't need 100 features competing. You just need one that anchors the whole space. Look at this stove. It just looks like, ah, it's from a different time. It's beautiful. White pops. And if you have some beautiful china, the way they have it pasted over their fireplace, that is just amazing. Here's the second idea. Design your kitchen as a place you actually want to spend time in, not just cook in. A fireplace, open shelves, somewhere you'd sit with a coffee. That's what makes a kitchen feel truly timeless. I want to own a kitchen where I could have a fireplace. I just love this concept, and I know it's definitely more European than American to have fireplace in your kitchens. I don't know, it's just so cozy. And what I love about this kitchen, again, it's timeless. I loved how there's open shelving for your dishes, so it doesn't feel too boxy when we go design our kitchen. It's all open, and it's just beautiful. I mean, these faucet right here. I'm from India. It kind of reminds me of when I lived in India around. I don't know when I was five. So pretty cool. I love this feature where it's kind of like a display cabinet and you can showcase a lot of things in here. Everything works really well. It blends well with the copper, the marble, the black cabinets. So look at these 2 kitchens. One feels rustic, the other feels modern. They look nothing alike, but they both work for the same reason. Each one is built to feel like the person who cooks in it. That's the secret. Don't chase a style. Build the kitchen around you. Look at these. I don't know if it's captured on the camera very well, but these doors are spray painted twice and then hand painted the last time. So let's say if there's a scratch, you can easily paint them yourself. This is the last one, and it's my favorite. A finish you can actually touch up will always outlast one you'd have to rip out. So pick materials that age with you. That's really where a timeless kitchen starts. So those are 3 kitchen ideas you can actually use in your own space. Save the one you'd try and tell me in the comments which kitchen you'd want to cook in.
