High protein food has gone too far

In this YouTube commentary, Kashif Khan warns viewers about a new synthetic egg white protein ingredient called Ovapro, produced by the company Every. Every inserts the chicken gene for egg white protein into yeast, ferments it, and dries the resulting protein into a powder that behaves like egg white but never comes from a bird. The FDA has cleared the ingredient, and within the first four months of the year its orders surged 550%, leading to rollout in major retailers such as Walmart, Target, Amazon, and various bakeries. However, the brands using Ovapro remain confidential, making it hard for consumers to identify. Khan advises viewers to avoid the ingredient by purchasing whole eggs (where the ingredient list simply says "eggs") and to scrutinize protein‑fortified products for terms like "egg white protein," "egg protein," or "ovalbumin." He emphasizes the need for vigilance amid the high‑protein trend.
