Katharyn Havens shows how to use Nano Banana, an image generator in Google Gemini Studio, as the first step of an AI homeschool curriculum. Students sketch ideas on paper, discuss them, then use a simple prompt formula to generate images. She pairs AI instruction with nature skills and meditation to keep learning balanced.

Hey y'all, Kairos Learning is back, and right from the get-go, we're going to jump into AI. So what are we going to do first? Have you heard about Nano Banana? It's within the Google Gemini Studio, and you can find it in the tools, uh, icon in the prompt bar. So this is the thing that everyone's talking about, and it aligns so perfectly with how I think that kids can interact with AI in a really fun and interesting way as they're just learning.
So we're gonna have them first put their idea on paper.
I really like to have them practice their writing and have an idea before they start. We'll discuss with the group, see if anyone has any other funny ideas to see what weird and wacky things we can come up with. So then I will have them enter their prompts into the Nanobanana prompt bar. Now, they're not very skilled in prompting yet, so this is just another piece of the learning puzzle, and I'm going to teach them the formula.
There are lots of formulas out there.
Everyone's profiling how to get the best prompt, what to say, but I found a simple formula for images. And we're going to try it out tomorrow.
You want to see what the kids made?
This is so cool. Look what they did. I actually tried this out just yesterday because I'm working on a course for young men, for boys, and it's going to be about doing some adventure and then talking about what it means to become a man and And so I thought, why not prompt and try to get an image from Nanobanana that would fit this concept that I'm trying to create? And here's the image.
It did pretty good on the first try.
I think it's so important to teach them AI alongside teaching them nature skills and, and meditation and all the things, because remember, we're going to be tech fluent, but we're also going to remember our human fluency. So keep it balanced, y'all. Hope that helps.
