Short talk/transcript by Kristoffer Fürst arguing for reducing software vendor count (currently ~80) because integrations are unreliable, vendor management and contract visibility are difficult, and changing operating models across many vendors is risky and costly. He frames the core problem as selecting the right platform partners and migrating to them with minimal risk/cost.

I want fewer vendors. We have about 80 vendors today, software vendors. And I'd like to reduce them for for example, these three reasons. Integrations between these systems frankly sucks. I don't really know what data has been synced or not. I don't have that. Visibility sometimes fails. Data gets corrupt. It's in 80 different places, it's just a mess. Second is it's really hard to keep track of these 80 vendors. It's not that the list is hard to have. We have a list, it's a list. But is each of these. Is it the. Do we have the right price for this vendor? When is the window for notice if you want to change it? How does it depend on other vendors and do we have the right vendor for each category? At this point in time, and given the pace that the software vendor landscape is changing thanks to AI that question, the answer to that question today might be very different from the answer tomorrow. If I want to change my operating model when I have 80 vendors, it is really cumbersome terms probably don't align between all of these systems and I can't change them all at once anyways because just have too many downstream effects, risk would be too high. So which do I change first? And when I change one, that changes the integration pattern from all of the others, I need to change the integrations once, twice, twice, three times, four times. That's just overwhelming project. And we're hearing the same from almost all investment managers that we're speaking with. The question isn't do we want fewer vendors? The question is a which is the right platform partners to end up with and maybe even more difficult question is how do we actually get to that destination with the lowest possible risk and cost?
