Welcome to the Boys and Girls Club of Cabarrus County. Every day after school and in the summer, hundreds of kids like me come to the club to learn and grow. Let me show y'all the cool things that we do here. We do sports in the gym. Power Hour is when you go do your homework, and on Fridays we do games.
I'm here because my mom and my daddy work so hard, and when I'm home, I don't want to stay home by myself. It's people walking around to see if we're doing the right thing, doing our homework, and if we have a question, we raise our hand, ask the question, and see if they can help us. I am reading a book.
It's about a frog and toad in the wintertime. Where I go get snacks is the snack room. There is probably 100 snacks there. I don't know. There's a lot of snacks there.
The staff are really nice and friendly, and they always help you out, and you can go to them if something happens that you might not be able to go to other people for.
Where we are in right now, the Tech Center, is where you get to play games on the computer. You get to play pool. There's a pool, there's a kitchen, air hockey, foosball, and all other things that might be in a game room.
I absolutely love this place. It is a safe environment for my children. Both of my children have attended, and when they come here, I don't have to worry about anything happening to them.
My favorite thing is when You get to go outside to the playground and get exercise and swing on the swings and all other things that's outside. The Keystone Room is a place where the high schoolers just go to hang out and do projects for the community and the club.
I really like to tutor. We get to tutor the younger kids, you know, that come for the after-school program, and they're really funny.
My parents like me to come here. It's just a positive environment. It promotes doing homework, helps me focus on homework when I'm just here with my friends. It's just a good place to come after school instead of, you know, going home and just not really doing much.
If they don't have the positive role models like the staff here, there's no telling where kids that don't have this opportunity, where they may go in life.
A lot of times folks, when they think of a Boys and Girls Club, they think of recreational activities. Well, we are that, but we're so much more. There are so many kids out there that need a place to go, and we want to be that place for them to go.
