Hi, I'm Terri, and this beauty is a black walnut. They can be giant trees. They grow 100 feet tall and branch out 100 feet wide. Their nuts are edible, quite delicious actually, and they appear in a lot of southern pound cakes. Those black walnuts are a little difficult to get out of the shell, but well worth it. And did you know that there are some plants that can't grow underneath it because of a chemical that it releases into the soil? Grabbing a little close-up of one of my favorite trees, the black walnut. Great firm bark, which really reveals what a great hardwood it really is. Very prized and expensive in furniture and cabinetry. And of course, I have to give a hug to one of my favorite trees, 'cause I'm a tree hugger, 'cause I love my trees in Charlotte, and this is one of the best, the black walnut.
